Yes, because TikTok is so much better than meta…

B0rax ,

It will be less efficient, yes. But it is still a net positive. If it is cheaper to build it there, you can just add more power to compensate for that loss in efficiency.

It will not be a 100% loss. For reference: the power loss of the transmission in the US is on average 5%. Let’s say it is double that, it is still very little in the grand scheme.

B0rax ,

Are you using the web player or the iOS app? There is the official ABS app or Plappa as a third party app.

B0rax ,

feddit.de is in this error state since quite a while now (over a month). The web interface does not work anymore, but connecting through an app still works (I use voyager for example). Most people have migrated away from feddit.de to feddit.org. I will do the same at some point, I just didn’t have the time yet.

B0rax ,

Mainly for cheaper applications which are not as weight (and size) sensitive. One example is entry level EVs or home energy storage.

B0rax ,

WhatsApp is the same as texting in this regard.

B0rax ,

Did you report it? Maybe no one noticed yet.

B0rax ,

It got a lot better. Now (or I should say, in a few months) you can place icons wherever you want on the homescreen.

B0rax ,

Just fyi: OSMand is available on iOS.

B0rax ,

To be honest: they didn’t. They were perfectly clear in their announcement that they are not the first to do it.

B0rax ,

I think it does, yes. At least it does support CarPlay on iOS, so I guess the functionality on Android is also there.

B0rax ,

Where do you take that number from? 1MWh/mo seems quite high. Also considering that the stored energy will only be used when solar or wind are low, the battery will never be used to supply 100% of the electricity.

So it will support many more homes.

B0rax ,

A donut delivery service? That’s the most American thing I have read today.

B0rax ,

Yes, pizza and burgers and stuff, sure. But usually not for donuts.

The Wolf Amendment, named after former US representative Frank Wolf, prohibits NASA from using government funds to cooperate with the Chinese government — unless it has certification from the FBI that such collaboration poses no threats to national security or risks inadvertently leaking space-related tech or data.

So, it is not like China does not want to cooperate.

B0rax ,

There are case fans with a temperature sensor. They already control the speed themselves depending on the measurement. The only thing they need is 12V.

For example the Arctic F12 TC.

B0rax ,

iOS has a built in document scanner, which does all of that as well. Has never let me down.

B0rax ,

You mean files? Or apps? Or mails? …

B0rax ,

That or the files he has are badly corrupted…

B0rax ,

To be honest: a laptop that requires 240W of power is really not a portable laptop anymore, is it?

The battery wouldn’t last even half an hour, and that would be with the maximum 100Wh you can take on an airplane.

B0rax ,

I always liked the idea of the small Lenovo ThinkEdge Servers, I just never had a usecase. Maybe these would work for you.

B0rax ,

That red dot should disappear if you disable iCloud (yes, it is different from not setting it up… it is not good, but you can get rid of it)

B0rax ,

Thanks for the heads-up. I am running homebox on my system and didn’t know that it was archived.

B0rax ,

Don’t forget that big combustion cars also create more CO2

B0rax ,

We also need smaller EVs.

B0rax ,

They could get a bonus or a factor. But I wouldn’t completely exempt them.

B0rax ,

I thought it was shown that it definitely helps, but it really doesn’t matter where the needles are placed, just that you are poked.

B0rax ,

Because it is analog. There are no buffers or anything in between. Your PC sends the image data in analog throug VGA pixel by pixel. These pixels are projected instantly in the requested color on the screen.

B0rax ,

Well yes, the speed of light in this case.

B0rax ,

I really do think it is a bug. As this has happened to me before, but it only works until the next version of the app comes around.

B0rax ,

In the article it says it is 5% of their global revenue each day. That is a lot of money, I have no doubt that they will fix it.

Never buy .xyz

I just wanted to post this here because I want to help you all and hurt gen.xyz as much as possible. I had a .xyz domain through njal.la which I used to host jellyfin, homeassistant, and other basic things for friends and family. My domain recently became inaccessible without any notice. After a while of troubleshooting, I found...

Look for Windows LTSC (long term support channel) it is bot sold to private customers, but it doesn’t have all that crap nobody wants.

'LLM-free' is the new '100% organic' - Creators Are Fighting AI Anxiety With an ‘LLM-Free’ Movement (www.theatlantic.com)

As soon as Apple announced its plans to inject generative AI into the iPhone, it was as good as official: The technology is now all but unavoidable. Large language models will soon lurk on most of the world’s smartphones, generating images and text in messaging and email apps. AI has already colonized web search, appearing in...

It is already used in porn. I have heard that there is at least one quite active Lemmy community about it.

B0rax ,

Not everyone is following gossip…

B0rax ,

They don’t even need to built a separate app if they have an iPad app. they just need to not „not allow“ the execution on macOS.

B0rax ,

A task could also be, carrying a box from point A to point B. Walk back, repeat.

B0rax ,

Why would you give gps access to your insurance company?

B0rax ,

Ha, interesting. I buy my harddrives second hand. They are backed up. If one fails, I swap in a new one. I don’t care if my server is down for a day. That’s what my backup Pi-hole is for.

B0rax ,

The question is, what do you want to host? Audiobooks? A webpage? How about a pinhole + vpn for ad blocking? Your own wiki? A task tracker? A meal planner?

B0rax ,

Blender is not a CAD tool. And it’s not trying to be.

B0rax ,

They try to make the job as easy as possible, so no training is required and literally anybody could do the work. That way they don’t need any skilled labor at all.

B0rax ,

In some ways, yes. They aren’t susceptible to political propaganda for example.

Microsoft violates children’s privacy – but blames your local school (noyb.eu)

In the wake of the pandemic, schools in the European Union have increasingly begun to implement digital services for online learning. While these modernisation efforts are a welcome development, a small number of big tech companies immediately tried to dominate the space – often with the intention of getting children used to...

Microsoft 365 is the easy solution. Schools usually don’t have the people and/or the Know-how to implement alternative, well working, solutions.

I like my HPE microserver gen10+

Although it does not come with a GPU by default, but you can install a low power one.
