Am I supposed to ask stupid questions here, or *not* ask stupid questions?
It’s kinda how you read the name, innit?
Using Ubuntu may give off hipster vibes to the average PC user, but within the Linux community its has the opposite effect.

What is the longest discontinuous marriage?
I’m thinking along the lines of older spouse dies, younger spouse marries someone younger and becomes the older spouse. Then older spouse dies again and repeat. Has anything like this happened in a long enough chain to be significant? Is it so mundane no one cares?
Many Network Interfaces per VM/CT - Good Practice?
I am currently setting up a Proxmox box that has the usual selfhosted stuff (Nextcloud, Jellyfin, etc) and I want all of these services in different containers/VMs. I am planning to start sharing this with family/friends who are not tech savvy, so I want excellent security....
Searching for the "most representative" Star Trek episode
Whenever I see a conversation along the lines of “what episode should I show my friend/partner/etc. to get them hooked on Star Trek,” the suggestions are pretty predictable - your “best” episodes that are regarded to represent the franchise at its peak....
[Plasma 6] How to get virtual desktops to behave like MacOS “Spaces”

Why is currency so essential?
Why do we focus solely on this one aspect of life?
Did the premise of an entity approaching you only when it's not being viewed originate with Doctor Who's Weeping Angels?
The Weeping Angels apparently originated with Steven Moffat seeing a statue of a weeping angel in a structure in a cemetery and returning later to find out it was gone. At least according to this RadioTimes article. They first appeared in 2007 in the episode Blink....

Is there a way to subscribe to a post/comment of others to get notifications for new comments? If it’s currently not available, is it being worked on?
Would love some feedback on this UniFi setup
Hello!...
On what distros/desktop envs is it possible to have the same taskbar on every screen?
I recently installed Linux mint ane was unpleasantly surprised that it is virtually impossible on every desktop environment, as opposed to Ubuntu on which it required very little.
Is anyone still playing Command and Conquer Generals (+ Zero Hour)?
There’s a certain cheesiness and non-political-correctness that’s refreshing....
Is the Nitro Deck worth it for the Switch?
I love my switch OLED and I choose it over the steam deck and Rog Ally....
Patient gamers, what are your favourite city builders?
As Cities Skylines II still isn’t worth it (the sub has a regular thread about that, in summary: no it’s not: old.reddit.com/…/is_cities_skylines_ii_worth_it_m…) which games scratch your city building itch?
Extremely positive experience with Waydroid
I used to hate android emulators, since the ones I’d tested on Windows were ad-ridden, slow bloatware....
With studio closures, why is no one talking about the people who sold the studios?
If the studios didn’t get sold to the larger entities, said large entities couldn’t had closed them. Why is no one talking about the topic of game studios being sold out to begin with?...

Mostly I’m curious what people’s setups are. Are you using docker or a VM? Which tools are you using to stream and play your roms or steam games?...
Why does the aurora borealis appear to be white in the sky but in pictures it has nice coloration?
Why does a state like California that has supermajorities in both houses of the legislature not have a livable wage, housing guarantees, universal healthcare, and other very progressive policies?
I keep being told it’s because of the Republicans that we can’t have nice things. So what gives in California? We should be overflowing with progressive policies.
Help needed choosing a good pair of noise cancelling earphones
I’ve found a good number of negative reviews of Bose QC 2 and quite a few good things said about Sony WF-1000XM5 so I’m leaning towards buying them but would love to hear the general recommendation on Lemmy first....
r/sysadmin and the size of this community
So I have been a part of this community for a while and it seems pretty quiet. I know Lemmy is not as big as Reddit so this community will always be much smaller but I kind of miss the activity on r/sysadmin. Infinity for Reddit still works for view only so I have been scrolling though posts on Reddit as some of the stories and...
Are there still any versions of Linux sold in a box like in the 90s / 2000s?
I’ve tried to find them to no avail. I’m guessing the box sets just aren’t made anymore, but I figured it’s worth asking in case there’s some obscure one out there somewhere....
Do you use the device you torrent on for personal things as well?
I’m just curious as I’ve permanently dedicated my laptop to torrenting. I’ve been too nervous to install anything but the VPN and Firefox on it. Now, I’m curious to mess around with Linux some more, which is what I use on it, but I can’t fully test out what all I can do with it without signing into accounts....
CBT as a kink may be an evolutionary adaptation to protect men's most vulnerable (and evolutionarily useful) body part.
I have no idea why it’s out there, but I suppose abusing it a bit may help toughen it up enough to ensure you can still have children when an accident happens.
