One of the first wow-moments when I first installed linux (2003ish) was Enlightenment. I though it was very pretty, and quite different from the mainstream WMs. It was presented as a feature, not a bug, that development was slow: the people behind it wanted to take the time it took to get it right....
Heya, I’m trying out Lemmy and kinda like the idea of hosting a Lemmy instance just for me....
Comments and posts I make from my instance aren’t showing up on the outside....
My vision for this community is a space where people can encourage others to vote with their dollar and with their feet by educating them on the fucked up shit that people and companies are doing. When the community reaches 500 members, mods will also select one “cause” at a time for the community to support....
I have an online friend from the other side of the globe. We met in chess.com. But I’d like to try a different game this time. We are not console gamers, but have smartphones. Are there any online games we can try for free that can be played real-time? Looking for something light and can be played in the phone browser.
A multi-community would be all communities with a certain name, across all instances. It would prevent powermods from being a problem on Lemmy. i think it should be notated with m/, just like communities but with m instead of c.
As the owner of the community was recently banned we are looking for people who are interested in taking over this community....

I was on Ubuntu for a year. No major issues, although I used the interim releases, which are supposed to be less solid than LTS. Then, a couple of months ago, I decided to switch to Fedora, just out of curiosity. Many people stated how Fedora is rock solid, Fedora is the new Ubuntu, etc. First some rpmfussion updates broke mesa,...
I’ve finished the main story and I’ve grinded some Lynel guts to upgrade the soldier armor (I currently have 64 armor points total when wearing the set.) I’ve also defeated one King Gleeok, and I’ve completed two of the large maze structures....
and using lemmy feels like starting a car in the 1910s by hand cranking the engine. ie i like it but it’s a pain...
I just got into usenet and some of the files downloaded are ISOs. I’m trying to figure out the best way to convert them to mp4s so that I can play them through plex. I’m running on a headless arch server (Manjaro), and I’d prefer to keep the conversion there if possible....
on gentoo for example I have accrued a few files under /etc/portage that to my knowledge just have to live there…...
I used to have this working, but I haven’t used it in a while and had to rebuild the server in between, and now it doesn’t. How do you set up the PAT in the URL in order to access private repos when building using docker compose?...
So I’ve been tweaking my Steamdeck settings and whilst I don’t consider myself a total noob to this…I’m legitimately not sure what the difference is between the two, or which is more important to the overall smoothness of the game I’m playing.
I am currently trying to keep track of my config files in a repo to be able to get the configa back together easily if/when I change distro, but I am not sure if that’s the best way or if I should be using some tool to help me since I some programs keep preferences in other directories other then $HOME (at least I think so)....
tl;dr: I’m looking for something like AccuBattery, but for Linux...
Here is a comment I posted on one of the videos of @thelinuxexperiment...
A while back, I sighed up for surfshark with the intention to refund my subscription soon after. I just needed it to access some information I thought was region lock. After I was finished I sent an email to surfshark asking for a refund....
Y’all should try it! I loved seeing it popping on other instances’ /instances page, and seeing it polling other communities. Also changing the background in my theme was lit....
Hi all! I used to be a daily r/selfhosted lurker and a bit active user. Since the Reddit saga I thought that r/selfhosted would be one of the first and bigger community to move to Lemmy due to the IT knowledge of all of their users and the sensitivity about self host/privacy/open source, but I see that not only the community is...
I just learned the mind palace technique to memorize stuff and wanna put it to use.
