illi , to asklemmy in How to deal with being bald?

I understand your feelings, as living with great hair and liking it and going to bald must suck. Take comfort in fact that it is temporary.

But as a bald man - being comoletely bald is fucking amazing. I can’t compare with having good hair - had short haircut all my childhood, decided to grow it longer in my mid teens (wanted to be a bit morr stylish) - and that’s about the time I started loosing my hair. So had to go to shorter lenghts so it’s not that obvious and went full bald around 17 when I had a visible bald patch anyway. So can’t compare but it was the best decision I made - both at the time and for the future. I shave once a week and everything is easy. And I was blessed with a great skull shape so looks good.

Much more salty about me not being able to grow decent facial hair though. That beard and bald look would be sick but oh well. We have to play with cards we were dealt.

MrBobDobalina , to gaming in What EldenSoulsBorne boss gave you an embarrassing amount of trouble?

The first Headless I encountered in Sekiro. I was seeing enough progress and understanding what was being asked of me just enough to be stubborn as hell and kept trying to fight it head on, without having any knowledge yet of any helpful items that make the fight less rage-enducing.

Outside of Fromsoft, my NG+ encounter with the green swamp monster thing in Lies of P seemed SO much harder than the first time. So I’m not sure if this boss is considered easy or hard, but I didn’t consider it to be very hard going in for a second time and got quite stuck for a while…

But, would we expect the words to evenly increase, or would we see nothing for a month and then 4 billion additional words pop in all at once?

Management that has multiple conflicting ideology and walks of life but respect each other and has a professionalism and tolerance for people they disagree with and invite them to discuss instead of ruling with a iron fist like feudal fief lords.

I use it all the time. Works pretty good.

uebquauntbez ,

Yep, great project, was so easy to install and maintain with Debian 11 on a TinyPC. Works fine for me and my family, private data and business. Working with Yunohost, Nextcloud, SyncThing.

mesamunefire ,

I like that I don’t have to fiddle with it so much. I’ve maintained AWS for my day job, I just want something that does everything. I’m tired when I get home.

Invent the time machine and start attending lectures. If you somehow fail step 1, step 2 is still an option next year.

it does, but it’s pretty inconvenient. ShareX is better (which I installed after listening to the suggestions)

To help my American lemmings with pronunciation: Red-ing and Bark-shere.

It’s a very good university too.

dogsoahC OP ,

Anglophones have no right to complain about French pronunciation. What the fuck is this shit?

Berttheduck ,

Tell me about it English is a bastardised language made up of so many different languages rules. Have you heard of Lee and Perrins Worcestershire sauce? It’s pronounced wuster-shere.

Great sauce btw, real umami flavour and great on cheese on toast.

My favourite is Wymondham. (Like the blowy kind,) Wind-um.

Also, fuck Worcester sauce.

I’ve heard it as “English isn’t a language. It’s three languages under a trench coat, pretending to be a language.”

James Acaster’s classic Kettering Town FC bit starts with another example 😁

Skua ,

Half the reason our pronunciation is so weird is that a bunch of French guys took over England

then_three_more ,

It would be so much easier if we had accents over our vowels, like in a lot of languages to indicate which of that vowels sounds was wanted.

oldenglish.info/advpronunciationguide.html

English used to be phonetic, it’s just people started changing the way they pronounced vowels, but the spelling stayed the same. For example, both the k and the gh in “knight” used to be pronounced.

Quazatron , to linux_gaming in Anyone using Linux-libre for gaming?
@Quazatron@lemmy.world avatar

While I understand and empathize with your dislike of proprietary blobs (fuck you, NVIDIA), every game is a huge blob unless you’re playing FOSS games exclusively.

Seabyte OP ,

That’s true. And that’s exactly why I give zero trust to any executable that I don’t have the source code of. But there is a huge difference between running kernel level proprietary software and user space apps, which are easily at least sandboxable.

Quazatron ,
@Quazatron@lemmy.world avatar

True, but most people don’t sandbox their games, and while a userspace binary can’t usually get root privileges, it doesn’t need it to exfiltrate their summer holiday pics or health bulletin.

A good first step to mitigate this is to use separate gaming and serious accounts.
