Mesa , (edited ) to asklemmy in How do you organise your music playlists?
@Mesa@programming.dev avatar

Most of the music I listen to is OST, so I have a ton of those playlists where it’s the full soundtrack, whether or not I like the specific song.

And then I have two other dedicated playlists. One is called “Eclectic series,” which is composed of literally anything I find in the wild and like, and therefore is my largest playlist (besides one huge playlist surrounding a certain webcomic). The other is similar in inspiration, but is music that I liked and want to keep for reference but probably wouldn’t want showing up in my shuffle queue. This tends to be any lyrical music that I find and like.

And then I just throw it all except the lyrical music into a third-party music shuffler.

The trade-offs with this model are that it takes a lot less effort to build up your playlist because everything goes into basically one place, and so your library and exposure grow fairly quickly, but at the cost of less control at playback, since everything is either grouped canonically or unsorted altogether.

Works for me since I don’t listen to much lyrical music and can get into the dynamic flow and artistry of the music without the distraction of words, but it’s probably not great for people who enjoy lyrics and poetry.

Edit: I should mention that I’ve been working on-and-off on a tool that automates and facilitates playback for god-lists and ant-lists alike for a while now. It’s been a minute since I’ve touched it, but maybe I should get back to it.

I wish Jitsi was actually good. It’s a pain in the ass to setup and I’ve yet to get anything more than maybe 480p on it across both Firefox and Chome as well as the mobile apps on iOS and Android. It even reports poor internet connection when the server is literally 5ms away over the Internet, so even if it has to fall back to routed traffic I’ve still got a full gigabit of connectivity between me and my server in a datacenter which is way more than enough. None of the open instances I tried were any different either.

It feels like a ridiculously overcomplicated WebRTC demo app, the end performance is essentially identical.

smiletolerantly OP ,

Ouh, that sucks to hear :( I think I’ll still at least give it a try (it has been on my bucket list to set up for a while, not specifically for music purposes, just in general).

What kind of drives do you have in your RAID? Is it SMR?

nutbutter OP ,

The boot drive is an SSD, which is not in any RAID. I have another HDD connected via SATA. Another HDD connected via USB.

slacktoid ,
@slacktoid@lemmy.ml avatar

So 2 HDDs one SATA and one via USB in RAID? Can you remove the RAID drives and test it out?

Also what size are the drives and what’s their capacity?

nutbutter OP ,

No, they are not in RAID either.

My bad. What are you using the drives for?

UKFilmNerd , to casualuk in So, how was your weekend?
@UKFilmNerd@feddit.uk avatar

Not much on Saturday. Sunday was a planned trip to the Sister-in-laws. It was going to be a roast dinner, then it was a BBQ, and finally downgraded to jacket potatoes and salad.

Both my sons are autistic, one more than the other. He was initially excited about the big temporary swimming pool that was going to be there. Sadly, it was a different pool to last time and the water smelt funny and to top it off, his brother pushed him in, which was the final straw.

I had to take him home to calm down and left my other son and wife to enjoy themselves. It was only a few hours and I had to come back and pick them up as my other son had enough.

And there’s this saying, “Autism Rocks!” 😆

AndrewZabar , to asklemmy in What web browser extensions would you highly recommend to others?

On my iPhone I have one called Save All Images. Basically you know how lots of sites especially any kind of social media where they want you there to see things… anyway they use a script or whatnot to prevent holding down on an image to get the save photo prompt. This is an extension that loads all images that are single level referenced and you can save any/all. I use it almost daily. Instagram, and the like, especially, they hate the notion of someone saving something.

In Firefox on my computer I have Element Blocker. Some websites just waste a lot of screen space so if you’re browsing a ton of content you’d like to get the most room, but some stuff takes up portions of the screen fixed and not movable. This extension lets you select an element and it makes it just disappear. It is absolutely essential.

@Fizz@lemmy.nz avatar

Playlists organized by a certain sound. But I have a liked songs playlist that I add lots of songs I like. Never big groups of song though only 1 or 2. When I want AAA variety of music I start the liked songs playlist from the most recent song down til the last. I never go to deep so it’s like a core sample of my music tastes over time
