I am horrible with directions. I keep my Google Maps going when I drive for that very reason. In games, I just use the built-in map. If there is no map and the world is not made of unique geometries and settings then I am out. I will have no way to navigate.

No. And don’t let anyone tell you otherwise, either. I’ve been doing this for decades, and I still have to learn something new on the regular. The one constant in life is learning new things, IMHO.

This looks neat. I can’t get it to pull images though, any ideas?

BrikoX ,

In settings under sources, you can try changing the default target to load the full content if the images are not shown. It depends on the RSS implementation.

xaxl OP ,

This is exactly what I did but it’s not pulling them. Might be on Lemmy’s side perhaps?

Edit: it’s not pulling in preview images like in the screenshots. It’s pulling article images from other feeds like Hacker News though when you open the full article.

BrikoX ,
@BrikoX@vlemmy.net avatar

Could be. I haven’t tried with Lemmy. Will try later and mention you with my results.

Thanks heaps!

@xaxl Did some testing and it seems that it doesn’t load images through RSS but if you select load webpage, it will show the image. https://vlemmy.net/pictrs/image/ee3b9355-17b3-4b77-be77-14c8c464e439.webp

Ah, that’s weird and unfortunate.

Have you looked at Inoreader?

I set this up and like the UI but it does that stuff where it says things like “Hey you have duplicates do you want to remove them? Oops sorry you gotta pay for that” and “Hey we noticed you’re using a adblocker”. Everything has to be a subscription service these days.

ericjmorey ,

If you want someone else to do work for you and pay for expenses upfront for you, you should expect to pay for thator have your interaction with that service be sold to advertisers at a minimum.

Sami ,
@Sami@lemmy.zip avatar

Sure, but I don’t think it has to be a subscription nag. They’re free to monetize as they wish but I don’t have to use it either when non-subscription alternatives exist.

Unfortunately some of my favorite games are no longer around in a playable state.

I friggin loved Atlas Reactor but it shutdown in 2019. Another all time favorite, which is still around but does not have the community to keep it feeling alive is: Shattered Galaxy.

Other games I think deserve to be in the all time best games of all time list are:

  • Heroes of Might and Magic 3
  • StarCraft Brood Wars
  • Dota2
  • Civ5
  • Diablo 2

That description kinda reminds me of a TAS I saw of a Mega Drive/Genesis game, Gain Ground. Is that game anything like this one? tasvideos.org/2145M

Final Fantasy IX is my all time favorite game.

worfamerryman ,

I had a really hard time liking ff9. Im not sure what it is about it. 8 was my favorite. Was it a really slowr paced game or something?

I might have just been burn out as I got into this kind of game with 8, then played 7, then almost right away I played 9. I guess I got into them around the same year that 9 came out.

I still remember seeing the preorder for it in the game store.

fuzzywolf23 ,

You and me might be the only people in the world who call ff8 their favorite in the series

worfamerryman ,

Haha, maybe it was because it was my first jrpg that wasn’t Pokémon or Mario rpg.

The music was great and the weapons were really cool. A lot about that game was just straight up cool.

LucasWaffyWaf , to nostupidquestions in People with bad sense of direction, can you enjoy open world games?

Just depends! Well designed world with distinct level features and/or a good map? Yee it works out well. Lotta samey territory with little to do between areas? I tend to struggle.

Intel NUC is probably the best choice - silent, possible to have two SSDs, pretty low powered.

Personally, I did settle with 13 Dell optiplexes 9020 SFF

please_lemmy_out ,

I replaced my aging NUC with a Minisforum SFF box and am also very happy with it. Footprint is slightly larger, but actually find it much quieter. The NUC was basically silent 90% of the time too, but it had an annoying high pitched whine if you were doing something very CPU-intensive.

Depending on model they can support up to 2 m.2s and a 2.5" drive.

AttackBunny , to nostupidquestions in People with bad sense of direction, can you enjoy open world games?

I have an incredible sense of direction in real life. In games, I can’t find my way out of a paper bag. I’m not sure how that works.

I hate games that don’t have good maps. Especially in caves or big buildings. Like, why!?!?!?
