Intel NUC is probably the best choice - silent, possible to have two SSDs, pretty low powered.

Personally, I did settle with 13 Dell optiplexes 9020 SFF

please_lemmy_out ,

I replaced my aging NUC with a Minisforum SFF box and am also very happy with it. Footprint is slightly larger, but actually find it much quieter. The NUC was basically silent 90% of the time too, but it had an annoying high pitched whine if you were doing something very CPU-intensive.

Depending on model they can support up to 2 m.2s and a 2.5" drive.

AttackBunny , to nostupidquestions in People with bad sense of direction, can you enjoy open world games?

I have an incredible sense of direction in real life. In games, I can’t find my way out of a paper bag. I’m not sure how that works.

I hate games that don’t have good maps. Especially in caves or big buildings. Like, why!?!?!?

Olap , to nostupidquestions in Is it normal to be in shock about landing my dream career as a software developer?

Hell’s yeah it is. The good news is: it only gets better! A career will have hickups, good years and bad. But the more you put into it, the more software development gives back. And I don’t mean a sense of self worth. Raises, promptions, bigger projects, more hardware, and then opportunities in management spheres, architecture, consulating, contracting, bidding, and you name it - tech is doing it all in the future

And that future is ahead of you too. Enjoy today! Tomorrow may never come, but if it does, it comes at your pace as of right now

Use Openboard.

SkyerixBOI , to nostupidquestions in Is it just me or did anyone else became a more avid poster since joining lemmy?

Always felt unwelcome posting anything on reddit. Lemmy is new enough and filled with people who are nice enough to make feel like I wont get yelled at for commenting or posting.

Kirb00 , to android in What's your email client of choice?

I’ve been using Spark and remained using it especially now that they have a desktop client it’s just so clean.

Weawow by far.

We discussed before to collaborate on a distributed object storage via garagehq.deuxfleurs.fr to reduce duplication and share the load.

Right now Lemmy/pict-rs sadly doesn’t allow using object storage as a kind of CDN, but once it does I would be up for trying it with Garage.

Experience shows that temporary measures nearly always become permanent. Just let me know when you have a IRC, XMPP or Matrix channel 😉

tyfi OP ,

Heads up, we’ve created a space on Matrix.org. Here’s the link to enter, if interested! We will be migrating over from Discord matrix.to/#/%23fedicollective%3Amatrix.org

curioushom ,

Also link you posted is broken, hope this is the right room: matrix.to/#/

Human readable: matrix.to/#/:matrix.org

poVoq ,
@poVoq@slrpnk.net avatar

Thanks! Can you add direct aliases to the rooms so that I can join them directly via a XMPP bridge? Right now you can only access the space and that doesn’t work via bridges.

curioushom ,

Sure, let me know if this works:

poVoq ,
@poVoq@slrpnk.net avatar

Sorry, maybe I didn’t explain it well. AFAIK you need to add “Published Addresses” in the room settings for it to work via bridges.

tyfi ,

-collective-general:matrix.org -collective-org-topics:matrix.org -collective-technical:matrix.org

Note that this group’s name is currently up for discussion and will change in the next couple days. I’ll update the published addresses when that happens and share them here!

Damn, I wish I could get one for that cheap. Don’t see it online

Looks like the seller I got it from restocked:

I used some new user coupons to get the price down from $50 to $35. Good luck!

Thanks! Agonizing over if I should get this or an Abernic RG353v or an RG35XX. This price is tough to beat though!

Shadowmatic is a great little puzzle game. It’s paid but the graphics and attention to detail are incredible.

FiduciaryOne ,

Hm, says it’s incompatible with my Pixel 5. Do you know if there’s a way to run it on modern Android devices?

dekatron ,

Strange, I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s just a bug? If you open the reviews section on the Play Store page for the game, and check the “Show reviews for: This device model” checkbox, do you see any reviews from other Pixel 5 users there?

FiduciaryOne ,

Hm, it does say it hasn’t been updated in 3 years, I’m guessing it’s just old.

Monkeyhog , to nostupidquestions in Do you believe Lemmy/Mastodon can become mainstream and fully replace their centralized counterparts?

I hope not. I’d rather it wasnt mainstream, because that attracts morons.

omgnvq , to fediverse in (Controversial) Should lemmy.world close registrations at a certain user count?

Probably not. I understand the concern, but another issue is sending people to smaller instances which may end up disappearing. It’s all run by small groups of volunteers or even by individuals, at least on the bigger servers you have, at least in theory, a lower chance of the instance vanishing (with your account).

I don’t know if there are any plans to cooperate between instances for tech support/funding or if accounts can be transfered one day. Until then - a slow lemmy.world feels like the lesser evil.

jimmy90 , to fediverse in (Controversial) Should lemmy.world close registrations at a certain user count?

yes, limiting users is one tool to encourage users to find another “home” instance that they normally use to browse and post so that the system as a whole can scale better
