We have experimented with using a home media server through Plex. We got it to work, but we generally do not keep it running all the time.

So far getcomics.org served me well, although I don’t have that much of an extensive comic library yet.

Ok. I have a lot of comics if u want any

Not seen any on Lemmy/Fediverse but you could check out ovarit.com

DoctorWheeze , to nostupidquestions in Why digital games are not cheaper than physical copies?

You don’t calculate the price of something by totalling up the cost to produce it and then adding a bit for profit - you calculate it based on what people are willing to pay. That doesn’t really change if it’s digital or physical. Some people might be willing to pay a bit more for a physical copy, but probably not many and you’d turn off more people by having the higher price.

bric ,

This. And a lot of people (myself included) are willing to pay more for the convenience and immediacy of digital. Sure, there’s always going to be people that consider themselves collectors that will keep physical going, but I think a lot of those people would be surprised at how small of a minority they are among the general populace that just wants to play a game

Im just a cheapskate r/patiengamer that prefers to buy used or on sale and sell the game after Ive completed it and have no intention of replaying it.

I’m a commoner, so it’s Scon for me! As humans we tend to cut out words and letters due to laziness, or to put it positively, to save time 😂.

fross ,

Scon to rhyme with gone is how posh people say it - the Queen said it that way herself!

make one if not. make yourself the mod

too lazy. used to solo mod a netsec subreddit and didn’t do anything. the community didn’t like that, lol.

i subscribed to /c/netsec but it hasn’t taken off. just wondering if there were already active communities.

ono , to gaming in Best Open World games?

Keep in mind that there are different schools of thought on what makes a good open world game.

I love exploration and discovery without much guidance, so point-of-interest markers and repetitive copy/paste events (as found in Horizon and Witcher games) bore me. Responsive controls and good user interface are also important to me, so Red Dead Redemption 2 was a miserable experience that drove me away, despite the great environments and character building. Some people consider those games masterpieces, though, so I have to assume their priorities are different from mine.

Subnautica is an outstanding example of what appeals to me. Beautiful world, unconfined exploration, excellent soundtrack, a story told through discoveries rather than exposition, multiple ways to accomplish things, and a departure from the usual “kill everything” approach to success. Fair warning: it is a first-person game.

Skyrim shares some of these strengths and can work pretty well in third person with mods like True Directional Movement and TK Dodge RE. Be aware that modding Skyrim is a deep rabbit hole that can quickly become a full time job. One way to solve this is using the Wabbajack tool to semi-automatically install a well-tested mod collection.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits looks like it shares some of its design with Breath of the Wild / Tears of the Kingdom, which is encouraging. I haven’t played it yet.

I dislike Apple alot, stupidly Expensive, more than they devices worth, very restrictive on what you can do with them (treat their customers as kids) and their monopoly.

There is also a wide variety of Android phones with different price ranges, and features (like my beloved headphone jacks), wider customisation and a somewhat better repaiability sometimes.

I first made the switch to android after my iphone 5 died and found out the newer models wouldn’t have an aux output. I have significantly more chances to use a 3.5mm plug than bluetooth in my life, so it was an easy choice.

7 years later, and I still have the same phone. No bloat, and updated the way I want it. I charge it once per day at high-performance mode, and the battery is holding strong.

I keep an iphone dongle in my car for friends, because I am a gentleman, but they always remark on how easy it would be to just have the damn aux port.

Grangle1 , to fediverse in My (Stupid) Ideas (cause I have no idea)

Redundancy (multiple instances making communities on the same subject) is a thing that’ll happen. I’m already subbed to communities on several instances dedicated to the same subjects. That can have an advantage, though, in that communities on the same subject but different instances can provide different perspectives on the subject depending on the makeup of the community in each instance (membership, modding, etc). Don’t like the community in one instance? Unsub from that one and hop on over to another one. Having one account able to access multiple instances allows for that. It can also help if one community or instance goes down for whatever reason, there may be another community/instance open where you can keep interacting. So I don’t see the redundancy thing as necessarily a problem.
