I just find and instance that allows you to create communities. Make an account on that instance then create the communities and make my normal account a mod. Because my instance doesn’t allow communities to be created and I like it to much to switch.
Can you help me understand exactly how this will affect me? I actually have accounts on both lemmy.world and beehaw.org (I signed up for both when I initially found Lemmy and was trying to figure the whole thing out).
If I’m on my lemmy.world account, will I no longer be able to browse beehaw communities? On the flip side, if I’m on my beehaw.org account, will I no longer be able to browse lemmy.world communities?
Am I understanding things correctly? If that’s the case, then is the only solution to flip back and forth between the two accounts depending on which server the community I’m wanting to browse is on?
I use KISS on my phone, it makes one handed easy. I use Discreet on my tablet, nothing on my homescreen but, pull down for my favorites, all apps (except those I have hidden) are swipe up. People love Kvaesitso though, and it’s really good, just not for me. Probably in my perfect world I would use Discreet with something like Samsung Side Panels, but FOSS.
Yup. Obsidian is a 'second brain' system development-like app and there's lots to it. It supports markdown, has a canvas where you can lay out and interconnect ideas and stuff. It's very customisable, it's just not open source. Libre Office, on the other hand, is a free and open source Microsoft 365/Office alternative.
I'd say there's no "what if". We can already know that they both are and are not building blocks of something greater.
What are atoms building blocks of? Nothing. Combining atoms to form a parsley doesn't actually make anything new. Nothing emerges from combining atoms. There is no "parsley", there's just atoms.
Similarly solar systems form galaxies, they form galaxy clusters etc. But a galaxy is nothing but a collection of solar systems etc.
However, the direction of causation is not only from small to big. The big also influences the small, and actually also determines it. For example the position and movement of the small is influenced by the big. Its position and movement is what the small actually is, as being in a different place or moving differently it would be something else that what it is now. You can't separate a thing's position from what that thing is. And more fundamentally, a thing is its interactions with other things. Outside of its effects on other things, you can't observe a thing, and those effects are the only existence of that thing.
In that sense you could say that atoms and solar systems are not building blocks of bigger things, as there are no fundamental building blocks and no things that are built either. There is just a network of things, none of which exist as independent things other than mutually determining and being determined by the network.
I can confirm this but only empirically, as I know of a community where only like 4 people actually commented, but I know at least a few dozen looked at.
It’s going to be interesting to see how Lemmy evolves and what impact this has on reddit. The engagement here and activity level of the users seems so much higher than on Reddit.
I wonder what percentage of “posters” came over verse lurkers.
What if reddit lost 50% of it’s posters and lemmy got them all?
Yep… I still think the “Powerusers” - Mods and actually active Posters, creators of original content - were the ones most likely to use 3rd Party Apps and thus have left Reddit after all the shit that has happened
I noticed a huge drop in Quality in the last 2 Days on Reddit (and a rise of Alt-Right bs), lets see how it develops
I’m sitting here in my daughter’s room, while she had an absolute banger of a meltdown. But upside is I’m taking the time to research what it would take to self-host my own Lemmy instance. I like the idea of my own personal instance that I can then federate through, rather than my account being tied to someone else’s instance.
Good to know, I did read that the docker instance is a right pain to setup, but apparently there is a nice ansible script. Would be a good excuse to learn ansible. 😄
If you asked me month ago I’d say Relay for reddit but here we are. Today I’ll go with Youtube Revanced, without it yt experience is severely lessened. EDIT: Oh three apps. Firefox and Power Amp
