leadore , (edited ) to nostupidquestions in How do I Graphene OS?
@leadore@lemmy.world avatar

One thing to consider is Graphene and Calyx both say they are designed to work on Google Pixel phones. If you have a different kind of phone you should search on your phone model and see if anyone has installed those on it and how it went for them.

Other than that, they are basically just de-googled Android so I would expect the things you mentioned to work. You can get many apps from Fdroid or use the Aurora client to get them anonymously from the Google store, though I don’t know for sure if that works in all circumstances. My brother uses Calyx and I know he has been able to install at least one proprietary app (for his car) and I think one from an insurance company or something like that.

edit: update, I just checked the CalyxOS site and it says they also support Motorola moto and the Fairphone.

I would suggest 2 pi-hole + unbound stacks on different hardware, preferably on different switches. That way you can restart/fiddle with things without your family going crazy about “internet not working”.

Andromxda , to piracy in Reminder: seeders, please seed on I2P
@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Does anyone know of a fairly uncomplicated method to set up my seedbox, so I can seed on the clearnet and I2P at the same time, without having to store two copies of all my torrents? I already seed terrabytes of torrent data, and I don’t want to store duplicates of all that.

Findmysec OP ,

Unfortunately, Qbittorrent’s I2P support is still experimental. Assuming your seedbox provider can let you run BiglyBT or any other client that can cross-seed, all you have to do is add I2P trackers to your torrent file. You can also upload your torrent files to Postman on I2P for them to be registered.

ReversalHatchery ,

I know nothing about seedboxes, but on a computer you can point multiple torrents to the same directory. If you make it read-only, by permission or mount options or whatever, the torrent client can’t even fuck it up

  1. using an ad blocker. personally, i use ad blockers for years and when i work on a friends laptop im shocked how much ads there are actually. i cant count on a hand how mucn i told my father he should use ad blocker browser and extenstion. and he wont do it. recently, i changed the DNS server on a router level to nextdns, where it blocks ads and trackers. he told me its amazing how smoother the experience is now
  2. password managers. as an IT specialist i have about 300 login details for many services, personal, work and clients. every login has its own password and eventually email too. and i know sooooo many people who forgot their passwords (they have about 3 very similar ones but ok) and try them all until they find out they had to creat a new for that specific service. and they are so unaware about the dangers (for example fishing, SE, …) with this method.

Rivalarrival ,

If “poisonous” are parallelograms and “venomous” are trapezoids, “toxic” would be quadrilaterals in general. (Can’t use square/rectangle analogy, because squares are a type of rectangle, and venom/poison is not a type of poison/venom.)

Aside from that, there aren’t too many rules on “toxic”.

Poison and venom will both cause serious acute injury with the possibility of immediate death. Both can be considered “toxic”.

Just to be confusing, “poison” and “poisoning” can have substantially different connotations. For example, the heavy metal “lead” would not normally* be considered a “poison”. Lead would generally be considered “toxic”.

But, repeated exposure to lead to the point that it causes physical symptoms is referred to as “lead poisoning”.

Same thing with mercury: it would be considered “toxic”; it wouldn’t normally* be considered a poison. But repeated exposure to mercury would be considered “mercury poisoning”.

(* If a third party were to deliberately introduce lead or mercury into the body of an individual, the substance would then be considered a “poison”.)

@ulterno@lemmy.kde.social avatar

Toxic can be used to refer to something that will slowly damage the body in some way.
e.g. tobacco smoke, which doesn’t kill you right away, but slowly turns you into a zombie, by destroying your mental ability and cause faster ageing.
Another, is Lead (Pb), which lead to the destruction of the Roman empire.

Lowered the corporate tax rate from 35% to 21% (lowest in history).

Obvious tax cuts for the rich.

That’s all his financiers hear.

Constantly attacks marginalized groups.

That’s all his voters hear.

Everything else goes in one ear and out the other, muddied up with enough “whataboutism” and “both sides” rhetoric from the financiers to keep the voters from actually considering alternative options.

A year and a half back I was sent an email from Apex saying I was banned for hacking. I hadn’t played apex for a year and my account hadn’t been logged into during that whole time, so if they’re false flagging players that don’t even have the game installed then who knows that the fuck they’re doing in their anti cheat. They actually reversed the ban when I contested it though.

bobagem , (edited ) to nostupidquestions in Can a COVID test show your level of infectiousness?

Everyone is saying no, and I’m no expert, and I believe that for purposes beyond amusement value, the answer basically is no, but…

  1. The times that I’ve had covid, the strength of the T signal has started weak, gotten strong, and then trailed slowly off over the course of days.
  2. Same for family members.
  3. Same for acquaintances who I’ve seen post day-by-day test photos on social media.
  4. I’ve read that if you are vaccinated and boosted, your antigen response kicks in faster and so more closely parallels your communicability curve. That is to say that unvaccinated people will be communicable before home antigen tests start noticing that you’re responding. But people who have had covid or vaccinations will test positive sooner. And specifically I’ve read that during the incubation stage when you are infected but not very communicable yet the tests may miss you, but on the other hand that’s okayish because you’re not very communicable yet.
  5. Everything that everyone has said about all the variability can be at least partially controlled, if you are using the same test batch, in the same location, at the same time of day, following the same idiosyncratic procedure for each.
