@southsamurai@sh.itjust.works avatar

Sugar free, but are they artificially sweetened?

Edit: nvm, I should have just explained rather than asking and not waste your time, my apologies.

Reason I asked is that while nothing in those flavor packets spoils in a way that will harm you, nor break down into something that could, they may well taste unpleasant.

Artificial sweeteners in particular kinda get “stale”, unless stored completely air free. They lose sweetness, and if the other chemicals are mixed with the sweetness in mind, it might not be enjoyable.

But there’s no actual expiration date on any of the brands or their components that I’ve ever seen. Best by dates aren’t the same thing as expiration dates (which you probably already knew, but figured I’d mention it anyway).

Worst case, it tastes like crap, unless the package has been damaged enough for moisture to get in. If the packet is intact, you’re good to go. Otherwise trash it

Use urine instead. Make an ice pee-k.

LainTrain , to nostupidquestions in Every show with a suicide now has a disclaimer with a suicide hotline at the beginning. Is there any evidence that these warnings make a positive difference?

When I was suicidal the thing that helped me most was lostallhope dot com.

"55% success chance, 15 minutes and 80-something agony for something as drastic as slicing one’s neck? Fucking hell there’s no getting away from it is there. " - 8?I thought.

Think it got taken down a long time ago, last I checked it didn’t load anyway, prolly cuz of the shady shit happening on SS

These helplines ain’t shit, I’m not even suicidal and it makes me want to an hero seeing that patronising cringe shit. There better be some solid proof it works on the masses, I can’t imagine how much actual mental health service funding in the UK could’ve been done from the budget of all that social advertising.

I_Has_A_Hat , to asklemmy in What’s your “I can’t believe other people don’t do this” hack?

Vote early. Almost every single area in the US has early voting at least 2 weeks before elections. People complain about long lines and lack of ballots on election day. You know what you get if you stumble into a polling place before that? A couple of bored poll workers in an otherwise empty building. You get your ballot, fill it out, and leave within 5 minutes. I seriously don’t understand why this isn’t used more.

People like to procrastinate

BlushedPotatoPlayers , to science_memes in Butts

There was a related podcast recently somewhere, the idea was that evolutionary lungs come from guts, so maybe guts would still have some ability to absorb oxygen, which, turns out, they indeed do. This could have some practical uses e.g. in intensive care situations where the patient’s lung is useless (extreme COVID), which could give a last resort breathing opportunity while the lungs heal to a usable condition. Furthermore it gives a shitton of opportunity for butt jokes

bluemellophone ,

Exactly how would carbon dioxide get exchanged if the lungs are damaged?

bbuez ,

Well farts aren’t just methane

dudinax , to nostupidquestions in Every show with a suicide now has a disclaimer with a suicide hotline at the beginning. Is there any evidence that these warnings make a positive difference?

Legend is the first suicide hotline was created after a girl killed herself because she had her first period.

People kill themselves for lots of reasons, but some of those reasons are just ignorance. I feel certain any suicide hotline could have helped her out if she’d called one.

AlecSadler , to asklemmy in People who lived in an HOA, what was your biggest nightmare with them?

I’ve lived in 3 and had the luxury of them being fantastic and doing more than I expected, above and beyond and never being more than like…$50/mo. Included gym and pool access and stuff.

BUT, I have a family member who lives in one where basically everybody got hit with a roof repair bill of $30k partly due to previous management embezzlement, and it ended up being taken to the courts and crap and eventually got reduced but not eliminated. I think like half the residents sold and left in the year following.

So…it can be a crapshoot but I hear more stories that are bad than good.

I legitimately want to be cremated by the sun after I die. Doesn’t matter how long it takes.

Sas ,

When the sun dies it will take the earth with it iirc so if you can wait until then you’re good

cyberpunk007 , to asklemmy in People who lived in an HOA, what was your biggest nightmare with them?

Whats an HOA?

chicken ,

Home owner’s association; when you buy a house and it is part of a HOA, you have to sign a contract to join the HOA as a requirement of buying, which means you have to pay dues and abide by the rules of the organization, and you have to require the next buyer to also join in order to sell your house.

I don’t know, I’d be worried if I did that then it wouldn’t hit the same for me the second time around. Who am I now compared to then? What state of mind am I in? I mean who knows how much a song or a a movie resonates with you has to do with where you are at that time?

tomatol , to asklemmy in People who pirated in the late 90s and early 00s what is the most dramatic change from then till now? And if you had the power what would you bring back?

Maybe 2010s but there was this program called Sopcast. It would stream live sports in HD through P2P and it worked amazingly! Don’t know what happened to that but now it’s just shitty sites filled with ads.

fckreddit , to asklemmy in If you could "Eternal Sunshine" a piece of media so that you could listen to it for the first time again, what would it be?

Full Metal Alchemist. All the twists, heartbreak, even the victories against an unimaginably powerful foe, but most of all, the many, many humane moments that makes it one of the greatest stories I ever read. I really want to experience it for the first time again.

I like those XLERATOR dryers because when you stick your frank and beans in them they make your balls flutter fast enough to play a tune reminiscent of a kazoo.

cyberpunk007 , to asklemmy in People who have those extra fold out laptop monitors, are they any good?

I used to have one, and in a pinch or in a hotel - yes totally worth it.
