I’ve worked on one of these that sails off the coast of New England. It was a passenger boat that would do week long cruises. Long, tough hours, but the view from the office each morning was unbeatable.
I make a really good living but seeing how we treat the homeless makes me realize just how little society actually cares about us. I’m just here so long as I am making someone more money. So fuck that, I stared a family and now they got to deal with this future as well, but at least we’re in it together.
The house behind my parents has had a string of terrible tenants. Loud assholes, people who let their dogs run loose, people with unruly kids, etc.
Otherwise a pretty decent neighborhood.
There was a younger dude living there for a while, kept kind of weird hours, but my parents never thought much of that, figured he was going to school, working night shift somewhere, etc. Mostly kept to himself, never bothered my parents in any way, always dressed professionally, etc.
He was probably the best neighbor my parents ever had in that house.
Then one day cops raided the place, turns out he’d been dealing a lot of drugs out of there and had a punch bowl full of cocaine sitting out on the kitchen counter.
Some of the other neighbors apparently had noticed some pretty sketchy characters coming and going from the house, they must have entered from the front door though, because my parents never really noticed anyone.
My parents would still take the drug dealer over pretty much anyone else that’s lived there.
Just noticed in euclidean geometry, for any two line segments touching at a point there is exactly one triangle you can draw, i.e. a triangle is uniquely described by any two of its legs. In spherical geometry, there are two choices for the third leg!
I noped out of Destiny during 1, but it isn’t dissimilar from most live games.
Some people want that endless content drip. They are the ones who tend to bounce between live games and so forth.
But for a lot of us? It is about the journey, not the destination. We played Elite Dangerous because we like flying and scooping and not because we want to buy every single ship. We play Warframe because we enjoy the movement and gameplay and not because we need to make our MR even higher. And so forth.
And for them? Hopefully there is new content at some point if only for Bungie’s sake. But even if there isn’t? They are still playing a game they enjoy.
Because back in the before time? I probably logged 30 hours on CTF-Face alone back in UT. I played and beat Freespace 2 at least a dozen times. Hell, I have basically an annual replay of DOOM 1 and 2 that I have been doing for longer than most of you have been alive. Sometimes you want something new to experience. And sometimes you just want to have fun playing a game you like.
These are not windjammers though, are they? They look like pretty vanilla, small sail boats (IDK sloops ketches, or yawls… (Wrong … Too many masts. They’re schooners.) Windjammer was a derogatory moniker for the sailing ships built after steel construction became common. Much much taller masts, wire rigging etc.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’d expect a much larger hull and 3 or 4 very tall masts, with something like four square sails per mast.
The Windjammers outcompeted steam vessels for many transoceanic trade routes because they don’t require the constant input of coal to operate.
I’ve often envisioned what a Lower Decks film might entail. I think one of the side plots would be Rutherford suddenly realizes he forgot his entire family existed and tries to get reacquainted with them. He quickly finds out that with his implant, he has become everything they ever wanted him to be, and that scares him as he realizes they don’t accept who he used to be and don’t have enough grief for the Rutherford that was.
