@Emotet@slrpnk.net avatar

DuckDNS pretty often has problems and fails to propagate properly. It’s not very good, especially with frequent IP changes.

SidewaysHighways ,

What’s a better option these days? I’d be interested in trying to get rid of duckdns

Emotet ,
@Emotet@slrpnk.net avatar

Buying a domain. There might be some free services that, similar to DuckDNS in the beginning, work reliably for now. But IMHO they are not worth the potential headaches.

zako OP ,
@zako@lemmy.world avatar

I have a domain… but I think DynDNS is not always available for every domain or by every domain seller?

2xsaiko ,
@2xsaiko@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Registrars (or DNS providers if you don’t use the one that comes with your registrar) worth using have an API to manage DNS entries. That’s basically all there is to DynDNS.

zako OP ,
@zako@lemmy.world avatar

In my case, there is no IP change. However, the TTL of entries seems to be 60 seconds and when Cloudfare/Google asks for the new A record, it sometimes fails. I am getting this error message from Cloudfare when I try to solve host.sub-domain.duckdns.org

Antiproton , to nostupidquestions in Why I Haven't Seen Any Trump Supporters In Fediverse (Lemmy and Mastodon)?

There are plenty of Trump supporters here. Every comment from someone who implies one shouldn’t vote for Harris because of the Israel-Gaza war is likely someone trying to suppress Democrat turnout. Single issue voting is the only way the GOP ever win.

sharkfucker420 ,
@sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml avatar

Bertuccio ,

Somehow people think that pointing out that anyone who isn’t Trump are pro-genocide means that Trump somehow isn’t pro-genocide.

Like you’re not allowed to think about two problems at once. Or that there are no other options…

sharkfucker420 ,
@sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml avatar

I get that but I’m not gonna criticize trump for being pro-genocide bc we can’t do shit fuck about that. Atleast with Harris there is a slim chance of changing her position on the matter by witholding votes and being vocal about it. Stop doing genocide has gotta be the most reasonable political demand to exist right?

Bertuccio ,

Yes. Exactly! The reason people keep bitching about Harris and genocide is because they hope something might actually happen about it.

Biden was an absolutely terrible candidate (that I was going to vote for) and probably the only person who could lose against Trump. Because people constantly bitched about how bad he was they changed the candidate.

Harris doesn’t get to use Trump as a not-as-bad-as screen, and given that we don’t have the option of not voting for her, everyone should be applying every other available form of pressure to discourage her from enabling genocide or otherwise maintaining the status quo.

BruceTwarzen ,

It’s so hard to take people seriously who talk like turbo redditors. My BrOtHeR iN lOw KeY cHrIsT.

sharkfucker420 ,
@sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml avatar

Thats fair but it’s probably just a generational or regional divide. For instance, I personally can’t take people who use that form of text capitalization seriously. No shame though I just associate it with 7th grade

_core ,

If all you’re voting on is how they respond to Gaza, Harris isn’t great but Trump is exponentially worse. He’s openly said that Israel should continue what they’re doing. In fact, in every metric of comparison Trump is exponentially worse. It’s not that we’re scared of Trump, it’s that he is so much worse in every regard.

sharkfucker420 ,
@sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml avatar

Yeah no shit but im not gonna settle for genocide. Slower genocide is still genocide and if I can do anything to prevent the murder of hundreds of thousands of people I will do so. I genuinely believe that witholding my vote and protesting has a chance of altering Harris’ position here.

Quicky , to casualuk in Are there any magazines in the UK worth reading?

This is likely to be an unpopular suggestion because of who it is and it being a paid service, but Apple News+ has actually got me back into reading magazines for the first time in at least a decade.

I’m already locked in to Apple because of all the family’s devices, so I pay for Apple One which covers all the family’s music and storage subscriptions etc, but one of the elements I get more use of than I ever expected are the magazines available as part of News+.

There’s a ton of them available such as National Geographic, Time, Empire, New Scientist etc, which I regularly read. Probably better experienced on an iPad rather than a phone due to the format, but it’s been great to have access to all of them without having to buy a physical magazine, although that may actually be what you’re after.

There’s a list of the publications here, some of which are crap, but a lot of which are things I would read if they were to hand on a coffee table.

Apple News Publications

Anyway, the reason for the recommendation is, there’s a lot of choice, and since it’s essentially a paid subscription to all of them, you can easily sample some and see which publications appeal.

The fact the skibidi says yes yes instead of skibidi makes me think they’ve seen it, because everyone who hasn’t tends to just say skibidi.

I suppose if you hear your class talking about something a lot, it probably makes some sense to at least briefly look into it. Especially if the general gist of it can be understood by watching one thirty second youtube video

sumguyonline , to games in How to decide what kind of controller one should purchase?

Bought a wired eswap thrustmaster pro. Refuse to use anything else ever again. Been a default controller that came with the console guy for most of my life before that. An actual game changer. Button pushes always register, the joysticks are damned responsive, and it feels quality with internal parts being made of metal. It was pricey, but it was damn worth it.

glitches_brew ,

I 100% agree and you didn’t even mention the biggest selling point in my eyes. The joysticks are modular so you can swap them out if they ever get drift. The sticks are extremely high quality but drift is inevitable in most scenarios so it’s nice to only need to spend $20 instead of $200 for no more drift.

stealth_cookies ,

I’ve heard nothing but problems about the reliability of these. One streamer for my main game is sponsored by them through their org and occasionally rages about how many they have broken just playing.

Have been defaulting to kebab case for variable and function names in all languages recently because of cargo yelling at me

Pascal case for class names cause c#, snake case for python files because it doesn’t like kebab

Screaming case for env files because that’s what everybody else does
