My ideal form of government would be a bottom-up consensus-based democracy.
People organize themselves in groups of about 100 people who meet weekly to discuss topics related to their immediate surroundings (a group of neighbors). They make up all decision-making rules for their group themselves, and choose a speaker.
Immediately afterwards, the speakers from 100 groups meet to discuss larger issues in an assembly representing a town or suburb of 10000 people. This assembly also chooses a representative and has limited authority to enact binding rules for the smaller groups.
Those representatives basically work as part time politicians (like a mayor) and are paid by the state accordingly.
They have regular meetings with each other in groups of 100 which decide on rules governing a million people (a city or county).
And each of those groups again chooses a speaker for a national assembly, working full time and representing 100 million people (a country).
Each assembly has limited authority over the group of people it represents and can enact binding rules, while the largest assembly focusses on the topics concerning everyone, like a constitution, education, taxes, welfare, defense, border security, etc.
The leader of the national assembly is only a figurehead, their duties are to shake hands and speak with foreign dignitaries. All decisions are made by the assembly as a group. If any speaker in any group doesn’t represent their contituents, the process to replace them has to be extremely easy, for example a scheduled vote at the next meeting. That way, anyone willing to abuse their power can be stopped quickly.
My favorite is honestly my PS5. The load times are fantastic and I love the feel of the controller and the rumble / adaptive triggers. I also fucking loved my PS Vita, to bad it had such a mediocre run games wise.
Worst is pretty harsh, as I have loved all my consoles. But there’s no denying that the PSP was a bit garbage with its single analog stick (which was also very hard to use).
Imagine celebrating the idea that you’ve made no progress in twenty years. And not that it needs to be pointed out but it’s also bullshit because the right have been marching fast towards fascism.
There are a lot of reasons, but all of the NATO countries that were supplying Ukraine put very tight restrictions on how that equipment could be used. For example, none of the aircraft or artillery were allowed to be fired into Russia for fear of a nuclear escalation.
They’ve been slowly relaxing that restriction and it gave Ukraine more freedom to run the campaign as they see fit
I believe also that the predominating thought in this war among the generals that plan it is that a shake up to the current status quo was needed. Invading Russia gives Ukraine a bit of leverage, plus it draws away RU troops from the front line so that Ukraine may be able to retake a bit of ground.
Grand Poobah Pooty Putin can only say so many times that he’s moving nukes to ready status or whatever until it becomes clear he’s not going to use them. Nuking anybody, especially Ukraine, would be a tacit admission to the world that he’s losing this war. If he did, NATO would likely get involved presumably because they would consider the fallout drifting over Europe to be an act of war, but a casus belli is a casus belli.
So yeah, I can see NATO countries being ok with a strike inside of Russia now. Makes total sense to me. I’m just surprised it took this long to get there.
New Zealand. The wife & I spent 3 weeks there earlier this year. The people were all very friendly, and the range of things to do & see is just amazing if you’re into the outdoors at all.
Thanks! I love that case, that’s what I use for my main server. In this case I was interested in a prebuilt, which may be easier to find and with all main components included and thus possibly cheaper. I updated my main point as I understand it may not have been obvious.
That’s interesting. Obviously, you’d put a center dot to disambiguate millihertz from meter-hertz, but I can’t recall ever having learned a rule about that. So some combinations of units are inherently ambiguous?
I can’t tell which unit is more cursed: millihertz or meter hertz. Surely, anything that could be measured in millihertz is more natural to measure as a period, or as revolutions per minute or something, right?
EDIT: Also, TIL about dpt. Thanks!
A dioptre (British spelling) or diopter (American spelling), symbol dpt, is a unit of measurement with dimension of reciprocal length, equivalent to one reciprocal metre, 1 dpt = 1 m^−1.
But don’t forget that Russia thought they’d seize Ukraine quickly. They haven’t. Even if they “win”, it will be a shit show and they won’t be able to keep it
I also have a Russian coworker who joined the Company after the war and he was embarrassed about Russia. I seriously doubt most of their soldiers are motivated to fight
I don't think Russia is winning. I think Russia, for all intents and purposes, already won..at a cost of course.
But I tend to filter my news by reality and sources by factuality. Most people tend to filter by wishes. So it's normal that some would think otherwise. The other side filtering by wishes may also be thinking that the win came at a much smaller cost than reality.
That’s quite a humblebrag, woven in there with your sense of self. Why did you you come on down to mingle with those who filter by wishes? A kind of intellectual disaster tour, you’re just passing through to gawk?
