tarsisurdi , to linux_gaming in How I got HDR working on Linux with an Nvidia GPU

Will the Gnome version of Bazzite work for HDR on an Nvidia GPU, or for that matter any other OS as long as I’m using gamescope to run the game with HDR enabled?

I don’t think it would work because of the fact that HDR isn’t properly implemented yet on GNOME, still waiting for that to land in 47…

gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/…/3893

BmeBenji OP ,

My guess is that you’re correct about that. I just wasn’t sure since I’m unfamiliar with just how powerful gamescope is, or how much control it has over the hardware

Amaterasu ,

Is this available in KDE?

BmeBenji OP ,

From my understanding, KDE Plasma version 6 using Wayland is the first desktop manager that supports HDR on Linux

tarsisurdi ,

Yes, at least that’s what was on OP’s system

TheDannysaur , to retrogaming in What is the better game...The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time or Final Fantasy VII?

I think this is rather impossible to answer.

One of the biggest issues is that context changes over time.

FF7 in particular is nearly unplayable by modern standards, imo. The amount of transition times (random battles with 20 second intros and 20 second outros) and lack of QoL features make it ridiculously hard to swallow. There’s also an expectation of mindless “grinding” that has largely written out of modern games. Even the remake uses side missions, which at least have some interesting elements to them, rather than pure mechanical “go spend 2 hours killing basic enemies”.

OoT has many good things going for it, but the live controls and weird camera behavior have been largely solved by games nowadays.

If you consider them in the context of the current time, both were unlike almost anything that had been seen. And given the price/console exclusivity at the time, I’d venture that very few people actually played them at the same time in their contexts.

Both were absolute revolutions of their time, which isn’t capturable anymore. It reminds me of the movie Predator. It became the foundation for so many things, but modern movies have taken everything that Predator did and did them better. By modern standards it’s a clichéd action movie with basically no plot. Makes it hard to judge.

redhorsejacket ,

While I agree with the spirit of your comment, I’m not sure I’m on board with Predator being outclassed by works influenced by it. Admittedly, I’ve not watched Prey, so grain of salt and all. I hear it’s quite good, but with it being put in a historical context rather than contemporary, I think it’s a bit of a different animal.

I am curious to hear examples of films you think improve upon the og Predator’s formula. If nothing else it will give me some new movies to watch.

Time.

Maybe there are better ways but I tapered down to the lowest dose and then just pushed through for a couple weeks.

It helped that each day was noticeably better than the last like at first it was every 10-15 minutes and a couple days later it was every hour or two

You don't really need STL, just set gamescope as the launch parameter. I suggest checking --help to see what the flags do, but in general you'll want gamescope -W <res width> -H <res height> -r <refresh rate> -f --force-grab-cursor --hdr-enabled -e -- %command%. This works for me on TEKKEN 8, Helldivers 2 and Deep Rock Galactic.

There are some issues, however. Some games might just freeze when running with gamescope (or gamescope with HDR flags), which is the case for me with Deep Rock, it'll freeze merely 20 seconds after it starts. Second issue is that, at least for me, the image will be incredibly dark and for some reason the SDR content brightness slider on Plasma settings will change the brightness of the HDR gamescope window, so I have to set it to 1000 to "fix" the brightness, but my desktop will be blown out with brightness.

naticus ,

Does –force-cursor-grab fix the issue where the mouse cursor might be misaligned with where you’re clicking? Hadn’t ever used that parameter in my setup and have avoided games that had 3rd party launchers because of this very issue.

BmeBenji OP ,

I believe that’s the flag that worked for me, though STL obscures the exact flag names away

WilfordGrimley ,

Hmmm, I’m hoping the HDR flag fixes HDR in Kingdom Hearts 3 on the OLED SteamDeck.

I’ll test tonight.

mrvictory1 ,

-e is for steam integration, are you sure this is necessary?

GammaGames , to piracy in Is there any Podcast players that autoskip ads?

You can set Pocket Casts to skip the first or last X seconds of an episode, which I’ve found helps. I also set fast forward to go 30s and rewind to 15 so it’s easier to scrub forward through an ad and I’m never too far off when I go over and have to rewind.

I have had a similar expierence with this, my mother would mostly ignore my input if I didn’t or did want to do something or if I knew she was wrong she would still ignore me and then find out she was wrong and rarely acknowledge I was right.

I never thought about this affecting me until I was watching an interview with a psychologist about 2 years ago and I really resonated with part of it but it never left my mind. Recently I rewatched it and part a different part of it resonated deeper when the guy talked about disagreeing with his parents even though they thought they were right and they listened… I was unsure of what exactly that part was resonating with so I listened to it again. I decided to mix up drink shake mixture but I couldn’t bring myself to do it for some reason I was just locked up about making the drink for like 10 min even though I know I wanted to make the drink. While trying to get myself to do it.

I noticed that there were internal voices that sounded different one was saying

do I want to go thought the effort to clean the shaker though

The other one though was saying

do you even want the drink

AND THEN IT HIT ME LIKE A TRUCK–THE 2ND WAS MY MOTHERS VOICE

Then I was hit with and started processing all the anger, sadness, and anxiety that I felt and didn’t realize I had pent up because of her ignoring me and brushing me off.

Its a tough thing to process and work through, I still am, but I feel better as a person now and more in control of my actions after the realization.

If I had to recommend anything to help, I would say let yourself feel those feelings you were repressing let them out in safe manners like writing down how you feel about stuff or hell I just let myself cry for like an hour after the dam burst it made me feel a lot better. Of course a therapist could help you too but the above two can help otherwise.

Also HealthyGamerGG is a really good YouTube channel with a lot of resources about mental health, it’s where the interview I was watching happened.

I wish you the best on your journey
