I never read it out loud, but in my mind it’s always “zeesh”

sudo is just pseudo and ssh is just the 3 letters

It’s more of a tink, maybe a thunk if you’re feeling rowdy.

The only time I’ve heard the loud hollow BONG is from video clips and memes.

True… but probably much more substantial in the theater. Maybe it was just because it ran for like a year, but more than any other film I remember hearing Titanic from the hallway while walking to see other movies.

IHawkMike , to nostupidquestions in How exactly does one eat 1500 calories a day?

There’s no way you need to somehow eat more to lose weight. Are you sure you’re counting your calories correctly? Using an app? Tracking everything, especially drinks like sodas and alcohol?

chrischryse OP ,

So basically from what I was told, since I’m 240 lbs and 6 foot I should be eating 2000-2500 calories but if I put myself on a calorie deficit 1500 would be where to go

IHawkMike ,

Yeah that sounds about right.

You should keep up with i3 or Sway. They will provide you with most of what you need for actually getting things done. Others you just will further yourself in an endless configuration rabbit hole

krellor , (edited ) to nostupidquestions in How exactly does one eat 1500 calories a day?

I've read through your comments, and highly suggest a food diary for at least a couple weeks ago you really understand the calories in things you are eating.

Yes, your body does modulate its resting metabolic rate over the long term based on things like average daily exertion, food, etc, but that is largely inconsequential to weight loss.

As a rough guideline, you want about 50% of your calories to be carbs, preferably the fiber or complex variety, 30-35% protein, and the rest fat. If you run a lot, then a few more carbs. If you lift weights a lot, then a little more protein.

Protein will help you feel fuller, longer, so I like to go my ratio of protein a bit.

Meals that I enjoy: steal cut oats and peanut butter, pan seared tofu with salad and a light dressing, bean chilli, tacos or tostados using those low carb tortillas, bowl of rice, refried beans, salsa, and guac, etc

But you really, really need to have a good understanding of portions and actual calories. Most people are way off.

Edit: also, some fasting cardio, like a good brisk walk or jog in the morning before eating anything can help accelerate things. But don't fall into the trap of eating back the calories you burn.

chrischryse OP ,

For protein would protein powder be a good option? And I’ll try a diary too see if that helps

Also I usually try not to eat them all back I’ll sometimes eat like 100-150 back but trying to stop

data1701d , to unixporn in [Plasma] My comfy, if unusual, setup.
@data1701d@startrek.website avatar

Woah. An interesting setup indeed.

KDE almost became my default when I was installing probably my first bare-metal Linux distro a few years back - Debian Buster, to be precise - on an old laptop. However, something borked with the network manager installation, so when I tried again, I chose XFCE, which worked (probably by coincidence - I probably just did something dumb the first time) and has been my go-to ever since.

From a programming perspective, I definitely like Qt a lot over GTK, though it’s not like I write GUI applications all the time anyhow.

Cagi , to nostupidquestions in How exactly does one eat 1500 calories a day?

I loose weight by eating 2 big meals a day. My go too seems to be frozen pizza (1000 cal each) and and curries (500-600 for curry, another 200 for my naan in butter). I eat 1600-1800 calories a day and feel like a glutton while my scale keeps going in the right direction. 50lbs down so far.

Wife makes kick ass Naan bread pizza.

If we order it’s usually Parry’s, Mici, or Jets.

If we want cheap it’s Little Caesar’s as we all like it better than Pizza Hut, Papa Johns, or Dominos.

The image of invisible aliens needling the crew with mysterious experiments is very creepy.

OMG yes! Sometimes I think about that when I have a bad headache for days… The ep concept is truly gross and creepy! It’s a pretty good episode, though.

What would you rate it?

setsneedtofeed OP ,
@setsneedtofeed@lemmy.world avatar

The strength was the concept of invisible aliens secretly experimenting on the crew. However there wasn’t any real meat to the payoff. It was an idea that didn’t have a story to live up to it. This episode felt like it was one good twist away from being really great.

I’d rate it as mediocre with a really good concept.

RootBeerGuy ,
@RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

The concept kind of came from TNG though. Those aliens were a lot more creepy as well.

It actually would have been funny if it was the same species that terrorized the Enterprise. Riker and Co. barely escaped, but Janeway turned the tables and set their economy back a decade.

I don’t have links because they get banned pretty quickly, but over the last week I’ve seen maybe 4 or 5 examples of lemmy users referencing “the race card” (derogatory) in response to others talking about systemic racist violence.

800-1000 calories a day is not “slowing your metabolism”
