I think part of different distros having their own package managers is that they have their own packages. Different distros may have different preferences as to where to install things, and obviously in terms of the actual software distributed, on eg a systemd distro you want software with systemd support/that doesn’t depend on another init system. On a musl distro you want musl software. Etc. It’s just easier if you have your own package format and discourages people from installing packages meant for a different distro.
Why does every distro need yet another package manager?
Some are improvements
People hang onto the one they designed
There are some formats with excellent features like segregation of build and use, consistency of product and signed manifests. BUT, if you don’t get why that’s important you’ll take a deb-based distro or one that builds continually in-situ and never realize it’s a risk.
Having said that, apt4rpm was great, yum was bad, dnf is featureless shit, and redhat is quickly broadcomming under IBM because #ibm. So go get PCLinuxOS and ask where the box templates are. And that’s my 25-year summary of package management.
If you’ve got an ALDIs nearby, they’ve got a $5 cheese take n bake. Pro move is to get one of those and then cut your own toppings, bake, it’ll be better than any chain.
I’m sure there’s other good take n bakes, but $5 for a quality one is probably hard to match
Ranch dressing, or a mix of half ranch dressing and half ketchup I call “krantchup”. Specifically Marie’s ranch mixed with Primitive Kitchen ketchup is so good on fries.
Anecdotally my boss at work bought some stuff from there with her debit card and had her account hacked, fraudulent charges etc. Another friend has bought things from there with a throwaway card and likes it lot. Caveat emptor.
hong kong mcdonald’s is currently serving shaker fries, where you can purchase a packet of seasoning powder along with your fries and shake it all together in a bag.
anyway, my all time favourite (so far) is mcdonald’s honey bbq seasoning; fucking delicious. their sakura shrimp seasoning is pretty good too.
i got frozen fries that i heat up in the air fryer occasionally whenever i get a craving; tried some taiwanese popcorn chicken seasoning (i bought a jar of it from a taiwanese noodle restaurant) on it and it’s really good.
