Does it have a Nvidia GPU? If it doesn’t then the nouveau modest does nothing.

My guess it that you are using a badly support realtek device. However I would need to see the full dmesg

Holy shit, I’m so sorry to hear that. I’ve been going through a physical rehab of my own the past year and it is so awful. Recovering from such a major surgery as that must be horrible, I can’t imagine.

possiblylinux127 , to selfhosted in Confused about Podman

The pi 3B+ is not powerful enough for all that. I would get a used minipc as even a old one will run circles around the old Broadcom CPU.

Podman is similar to docker except for the fact that it is daemonless and rootless by default. To expose things on lower ports you will need to battle permissions. Also podman has pods like kubernetes.

At around 13, with no experience outside knowing how to ride a bike, attempted a 6 foot BMX bike jump, the kind with a near-verticle lip. After two bailed attempts, I committed to MORE SPEED on the third try. I went straight up, couldn’t position the bike forward, and fell directly backward onto my unhelmeted head and back onto packed dirt and gravel. Always kind of felt dumber, slower after that day

Just as a PSA, if anyone is concerned about malfeasance in the voter registration process, go to your state of residence’s Secretary of State website or the main State Website. I will not post any links becuase if you can’t navigate the web to find an official website I really don’t think you should be voting—sorry kids, mids and olds.

Your state’s Secretary of State website will have instructions on how to both register to vote and to actually vote. Your state’s official website will also have the same information if your state doesn’t have that office and registration is controlled by some other entity.

We (united states citizens) live in a federation and the reality of that is most elections are handled by local powers so there are some ocassional differences in how voting is administrated, key point—go to your locality’s OFFICIAL websites to find how to register to vote.

It really does matter. There are elections beyond the presidency. Hate your senator? vote, hate your Representative? VOTE. HATE YOUR STATE REPS? FUCKING VOTE? Live in a state where ballot initiatives are a thing??? FUCKING VOTE!!!

it doesnt cost money. just register and educate yourself on what’s on the ballot and go to the goddamn polls. there are a lot of issues causing problems right now in the US but at least one thing we can do is go to the ballots on election days and vote based on our convictions.

Donebrach ,
@Donebrach@lemmy.world avatar

who’s downvoting and can you explain why?

stoneparchment ,
@stoneparchment@possumpat.io avatar

because the very first thing you say in this post basically amounts to “I think I have the authority to decide the basis on which we determine who deserves to vote”

like, yeah, most people can navigate to their secretary of state websites. And it’s not really your responsibility to have to link the pages anyway.

But doing it for that reason aligns you philosophically with people who think that the illiterate, the elderly, the poor, the disabled, the critically ill, etc. somehow don’t deserve to vote. It aligns you ideologically with other people who think they can decide who deserves to vote, with people who want to disenfranchise others-- in essence, it aligns you ideologically with many Republicans

plz1 ,

This. No way in hell I’m entering all that personal info on a non-official website. That’s how you get on voter spam lists…

Can confirm War Thunder ran significantly better on Linux (literally no idea why), and World of Warships ran much faster on ext4 on an HDD vs ntfs on an HDD.

tiny , to asklemmy in How do you get over a crush?

Make sure your romantic life isn’t the only thing you are focused on. make sure you are doing things that you enjoy and spending time with people you care about. If you have a good social network any 1 part can have problems and they will suck but it’s not losing everything which makes it suck way less.

tenchiken , to selfhosted in This happens after 3-4 days of running the server, then I have to restart it manually.

That server sounds a bit older in the teeth… Has new thermal paste been applied to the cpu? Even if the reported temps are under 90c, you might be getting hot spots causing glitches inside the package.

Worth trying a couple of different generations of kernel as well, both newer and older. You might be hitting a regression somewhere.

xilliah , to asklemmy in Why is music so loud in restaurants? (Serious)

I once read that it’s an epigenetic thing and it can be found across the animal kingdom. Some animals are born more sensitive and others less and this is important for the species or social group as a whole. This actually happens on a neuron level.

The less sensitive kind needs to actively search out stimulation, whereas you can leave the more sensitive one alone with a flower and they’ll be a happy camper.

And there’s so much more to it, for example developmental. Have you ever noticed the difference in sound levels in people’s homes? In some places it’s just like a warzone. TV on max, dogs barking, kids screaming. Imagine growing up with that. Like a fish in water.

And then there’s all the processing disorders…

You can train yourself though if you value it. I enjoy encounters and it bothered me a lot, so I just kept going to busy cafés and bars until my brain finally got the memo. It keeps surprising me how my hearing has become like a sort of precision microphone.

They want you to buy their new games.

VelvetStorm , to asklemmy in Be honest: have you ever lost your temper with a customer service rep? And did it ever help?

Ya, I definitely swore at them and raised my voice. I immediately apologized and said I was upset at the situation and not them because I know they are trying to help and are just trying to get through the day. The call went pretty well after I apologized. There was one time the person seemed like they were being intentionally unhelpful and a smartass when I was super polite. I did lose it on them and called them a fuck face and told them to fuck off.

NeoNachtwaechter , to nostupidquestions in How come the come the PKK is a "terrorist group" when basicaly all they want is just to be recognized?

It is never about what they want. We must judge according to what they do.
