Nintendo only doesn’t like emulation when others are doing it. It’s not like they actually ported the games on the virtual library to the Switch or Wii/WiiU. They’re emulating them.

Coyotes are pretty small though, I think cattle would still be more dangerous.

doingthestuff ,

You have clearly never been in a holding pen with 300 coyotes. Cows are not pack hunters.

Baphomet_The_Blasphemer ,

Neither are coyotes, at least not by nature. They may live in a pack, but they typically travel and hunt solo or in pairs.

abracaDavid ,

Also, coyotes do not hunt humans. They are opportunistic hunters at best. They scavenge a lot.

towerful , to nostupidquestions in Why won't companies easy re release old games or at least make very old ones free?

Older games for specific older console hardware were specifically designed.
It leveraged specific features of that hardware.
They literally hacked the consoles they were releasing on to get their desired results.
And because it’s consumer gaming hardware/software neither backwards compatible nor forward compatibility for all the stuff the pulled were ever built in. So a game would have to target multiple platforms to actually release on multiple platforms .
It’s like why so many games don’t run Mac OSX. “Why don’t they just release windows software for free on Mac OSX?”. Because it needs to be redesigned to work on OSX, which costs money.

Everything up to, what, PS4? is probably specifically tailored to that specific hardware. Games that released on PS3 and xbox-whatever would have some core software dev team, then hardware specific developers. It would be targeted for the target hardware.
At some point, things like Unity and Unreal Engine took over, with generic code and targeted compiling. Pretty much (not quite) allowing developers to “just hit compile”, and release to multiple architectures.

Any official re-release of Nintendo games have generally been on an emulated system. Where they have developed that emulation to work with the original software.
There are some re-releases, where the game has essentially been rebuilt from the ground up, using original assets but to work with modern (and flexible) game engines.
Both of these have a lot of work, so not free. Worth $60 or whatever Nintendo charges? Meh, that’s competing with real games.

If you own (or buy) a nes/snes/N64 cart, you can rip it. There are plenty of ways.
It’s not the source, but it’s what it compiles to. And you can reverse engineer the source, then adapt it to modern game engines. There are a few open source projects that do this. Their quality varies.
Or you can build an emulator to run that software, as if it was the original hardware - an emulator.
Nintendo can skip the rip, decompile and reverse engineering steps. They likely have access to the source code, and the actual design specs for the hardware (not just what they tell developers - who then hack the hardware anyway) All of this requires a LOT of work. So a sellable product from someone like Nintendo requires a lot of investment.

Emulators are good. Any used for speedrun leaderboards on equal footing to actual hardware (ie times are similar, even if they are different categories) will be good enough that you wouldn’t know.

TexasDrunk , to asklemmy in Be honest: have you ever lost your temper with a customer service rep? And did it ever help?

A few times. Usually, like many others, I let the rep know that it’s not their fault but I’m angry and try to escalate to someone who has the authority to assist. Three times I went over the line. I’m going to leave out a lot of details on the ISP ones because one would be far too long and the other could potentially out some of the parties involved. It helped in every case, and I genuinely feel bad about one because I could have gotten someone fired.

Once an HP rep stonewalled me for hours and I baited him into saying something fucked up on a recorded line. I hung up, called back, repeated what the rep said, informed them that it was recorded, and asked for a supervisor. I got one immediately and got my problem solved. I’m not proud of the way I handled it but I was young and not thinking about how my actions might affect others.

Another time was a national ISP. Every single time I called all the supervisors were in a meeting (yeah, right). My service worked almost 2 out of every 3 days and I wasn’t getting nearly the speeds I was paying for. I got on with a rep who told me about yet another supervisor meeting. So I said I’ll hold. I told him that I had vacation time and no Internet so I had nothing else to do but fuck up his call time statistics and tell dirty jokes. In those days at that call center they weren’t allowed to hang up unless you were straight up abusive. He blinked before I did because he was supposed to have already gotten off work and I was in the middle of telling bad limericks. So I got a supervisor and they actually got me fixed up the next day.

The last time was a different (local this time) ISP. I had requested specific times for repair because I was working nights and had been without Internet for weeks. I was told that was no problem. But they repeatedly showed up in the middle of the day (supposedly, I never heard from them so they weren’t ringing the doorbell but every time I called they claimed to have come out and no one was home) and telling me it’s my fault for being asleep and never letting me talk to anyone except for the receptionist. So I called one morning insisting I needed to talk to someone else because it had been weeks and she wouldn’t put me through so I let out a string of curse words and the supervisor interrupted me telling me not to talk to their employees like that. I told her about all the trouble I’ve had and that since she was there and had the receptionist lie to me about her being busy that I didn’t give the slightest shit what she thought. I told her that I was coming off nights and unless she wanted me up there every day I had off explaining to anyone in a suit walking in exactly how I was treated and that she was having her employees lie for her she’d have someone out that evening who would ring the doorbell and fix my shit.

It turned out that the issue was with their connection at the box on the outside of my apartment building so they should have been able to fix it without my input at all. No one bothered to fucking check. I seriously don’t think anyone came out but I can’t prove that.

When I was twelve, I was bicycling downhill on a residential street, and while I was talking to a friend beside me I slammed into the back of a jeep at full speed. Looking back on it, I definitely had a concussion, but I think the spare tire on the back spared me from the worst possibilities of my bad decisions

I ran into something similar where the main Syncthing interface was limiting a folder to “Send Only” with that same “locked to read only” message. In my case I was able to work around it by going to the Web GUI and there I was able to set the folder in question to “Send & Receive”. I don’t know if it will apply to your situation, but you might give that a shot if you haven’t already.

I don’t eat their often either, but the current meal deal with fries, drink, double burger, and nugs for $5 is pretty great by today’s fast food prices, so I’ve gone a few times over the last month.

Everything at the one I’ve been going to seems on the up and up. (I use the apk and hit the drive through). Foods been between pretty warm and hot every time. Only real gripe is that every time I order the burger no ketchup, no onions, and extra Mustard, and every time there’s only the tiniest damned bit of mustard on it. Like…I want some Mustard, damn it.
