Shoving your entire system config into a couple DSL files is elegant? Sorry, I’ll stick to OpenBSD’s ports system and periodic rsync backups, that give me all the same benefits without the mountain of XY problems. Gentoo would also like a word, but they’re too busy recompiling all of llvm with one build flag changed to give input. Hope you never have to use anything other nix, since you’ve spent all your time learing to configure an abstraction layer instead of interfacing with the real underlying tooling.

Does that have any effects back in country A?

Yes, you lose all the rights you have as a citizen. That means you’ll need a passport and/or visa to visit if one is required, you can’t live there anymore without a formal agreement like a work visa, you don’t get any health insurance offered, you can’t get government assistance, you can’t vote, you can’t own firearms if that’s allowed, and any other rights that citizens in your home country have. You are no longer a citizen.

Maggoty ,

This all requires positively going through a process. It’s not automatic.

If you want to support a US company, buy a Steamdeck and do retro emulation on there. The device components and whatnot are still going to be of mixed international origin.

Most of mine are videogame or car related, but here’s a few from across the spectrum of things I watch:

Aliensrock: Interesting streamer/YouTuber who primarily plays puzzle games and provides entertaining commentary.

ScrapMan: Plays lots of building/engineering games (mostly Scrap Mechanic and Tralimakers). Lots of silly multiplayer competitions and “engineering challenges”.

ItsJabo: Funny guy Streamer that plays Bethesda games with silly challenge runs. Also brings a bit of the chaotic energy.

Joov: same as above, but a bit more focused on telling a story throughout the challenge runs.

Aging Wheels: Eccentric guy that makes videos about eccentric cars. He’s quite funny and passionate which makes for good videos.

Superfast Matt: Engineer who makes ridiculous project cars that are good enough ™️. He’s made a land speed car, and recently an Off-road Dodge Viper.

Allen Pan: Inventor that makes a bunch of fun and silly projects sometimes based on stuff from TV shows and movies.

Incognito Mode: Especially the “In the Field” series. Basically an animated podcast where the Internet Historian and a guest talk about a variety of topics and come up with ridiculous scenarios.

Tasting History: Max Miller makes cool recipes from history whilst also giving a history lesson on the meal and its significance.

Kris Harbour Natural Building - Guy building a homestead in rural Wales. He does some cool hydropower stuff. Built his own house and workshop. He’s currently building a timber framed barn of his own design for his equipment and the animals he raises using lumber he milled on a band saw mill that he also built (and I think also designed). This stuff is all documented on his channel. Dude seems really chill and down-to-earth.

luciferofastora , to linux in How was your experience using Linux in college?

I studied CompSci, so a very technical field, and with one exception (Power BI), everything I used ran on Linux just as well. For my Thesis, I used TeXStudio. For normal writing or presentations, I just used LibreOffice. For calculations, I used Python. For collaborative document editing, we used Google Docs.

Word of caution: LibreOffice supports the various formats of MS Office, but I’ve had issues the other way around, where a presentation I created in LO wouldn’t work in MSO. If you need to collab on files together, I’d recommend Google Docs. If it’s just you, I recommend sending PDF versions along with (or instead of) the original file, just to be sure.

If you just tell Country B that you do so, like in an oath or something? No, no effects on the old country and they may even still want taxes from you.

If you contact Country A’s government (usually the state department or foreign ministry) and go through whatever process they have and pay a fee then yes. You will no longer have the responsibilities (taxes, military service, etc) or the rights, (voting, travel, education, etc) in regards to the old country.

Should you actually go through that process? Consult a lawyer in your new country to see if it’s necessary. Sometimes it’s better to keep the old passport, like if you’re a western expat. Sometimes you’re trying to get out from under international tax obligations or required military service. Regardless, the new country generally doesn’t care what the old country thinks as long as you follow the laws of your new country. Sometimes it’s a verbal promise to renounce loyalty and sometimes they want that receipt from the old country saying it’s done.
