You are kinda right, I do skim a lot, and this caught my eye

riquisimo , to selfhosted in What self hosting feels like (It's painful, please help šŸ„²)

This reminds me of when I sent someone a program in a zip folder. Windows now opens zip folders by default, and it looks just like any other folder.

So of course they opened the zip and double clicked the exe, but everyone knows you canā€™t open an exe inside a zip folder (at least, if the exe depends on the folders and files around it). If you try to, windows will extract the exe into a temp space, but leave all the dependencies behind. So the exe promptly crashes.

I didnā€™t think I needed to specify ā€œyou need to extract the contents of the zip folder first, then run the exe.ā€ It feels like saying ā€œyou need to take the blender out of the box before you can use it. And not just the _base _ of the blender, you have to take out all the parts.ā€

Some things just feel so much like second nature that we forget.

unrelatedkeg ,

Doesnā€™t Windows give a popup saying ā€œDo you want to extract the folder before funning the executableā€ anymore?

bleistift2 ,

No, it does.

Fizz , to asklemmy in Have you been stolen from?
@Fizz@lemmy.nz avatar

Growing up our house would get robbed often. Iā€™d say yearly. Since I was interested in electronics they would always steal my stuff. Iā€™d get a computer and it would get stolen. Iā€™d get a playstation and it would get stolen. Iā€™d get an air rifle and it would get stolen. I used to wish that they would take my sisters dollhouse or books just to even the score.

The worst part was they would trash my room every time. They would break open my cupboards and draws throw my clothes on the floor. One time they stole my playstation and gba and smashed my TV. I didnā€™t even live in a bad area. I lived in the poor part of a nice area. My theory was that people would come from poorer suburbs and since we didnā€™t have a massive wall, gate and security system we got targeted.

TLDR

OldWoodFrame , to memes in I just don't like it

Apparently itā€™s not the Last Supper but even if it was, what part mocks Christians? Like nothing in the stage direction is mocking, so it must literally just be that they donā€™t like drag queens.

A drag queen performing a Queen song isnā€™t mocking Queen. They just are a drag Queen while performing Queen. I wouldnā€™t be offended by that as a Queen fan.

TedZanzibar , to asklemmy in People who watched Homestar Runner back in the day: If you have watched any of the sbemails on the website, which sbemail is your favorite of the bunch?

Some of the very first ones were great; Trevor the vampire, and the one that birthed Homsar (possibly the very first one?). Stuck with it for all the classics; lightswitch rave, Trogdor, teen girl squad, 20X6, Sweet Cuppinā€™ Cakes (I still bring up Eh, Steve! to this day).

Eventually they started getting longer and longer and lost a lot of the punchiness and I stopped watching.

I think my favourite is probably Trogdor. The way Strong Mad has just carved ā€˜DAGRONā€™ into the table always makes me chuckle for some reason.

intensely_human , to asklemmy in The word to describe the feeling of not being able to see a character you like suffer/be in pain?

Thatā€™s called ā€œsympathyā€ in the technical sense in psychology. Itā€™s the thing that psychopaths lack.

However, if you are completely unable to see people you like experience pain, then this is sympathy combined with a lack of emotional fortitude.

Itā€™s important to get past this ā€œunableā€ state, because it will cause you to bury your head in the sand when people you love need help, if you are literally unable to stand seeing them in pain.

For someone who dislikes othersā€™ pain, heroism comes naturally. But for someone who is unable to see othersā€™ pain, denial and cowardice is the natural result.
