This isn't the only property that makes mental math easy. What is 3.5% of 62? Inverting the percentages doesn't really help but if we realized 3.5% = 1%+1%+1%+0.5% we have some easy math. This gives us 0.62+0.62+0.62+0.62/2=2.17
Also remember there isn't a teacher sitting over your shoulder to check your work, most of the time you do mental math, getting close is good enough. 62 is close to 60 and 3.5% is close to 4, and 60 x 4% is easy math to get an answer that will be a little less than 2.4.
As I understand it, API charges are for everyone, Apollo for example showed the app is within the limits, I think other app devs did the same.
While not wanting their data to be scraped for AI for free is indeed a valid reason, if it was the real reason they would have come up with different tiers of pricing like every other paid platform does.
Edit: Apollo was within the limits, but reddit changed the rules apparently …
Not quite. The new rules are 100 api calls per minute per user per app. It used to be 100 api calls per minute per user. That means Apollo is limited to 100 api calls per minute for all users.
If someone were to have a private API key for personal use, it would be difficult to exceed the limit.
In theory, devs need to know what setting you chose so that, if you legitimately need presicse location, you can tell the user to enable it. In practice I’m sure plenty of apps that claim they need precise location don’t really need it, but it’s not a restricted permission either so Google doesn’t do any validation during their review process
Long answer require some technical knowledge that you clearly don’t possess and would just give you an headache.
To put it simply, if your app get successful and lots of users adopt it, you are bound to exceed those arbitrary limits.
Thing is, offering free api is not sustainable but you could offer some half way option, like including some ads in the apis responses as well and have the devs agree in showing those ads (I’m talking banners and the like) so that you can assure your ads clients that they are going to be shown anyway even by third party apps.
If course you can then go nuts on the penalties for infringing that agreement.
What is Reddit doing is basically saying, you can use our APIs if you are doing a school project.
Without looking into any information, I can guess that it is associated with API key which are registered to a specific email. Sure, you can open more email accounts and more APIs but this is becoming a hustle.
What they could do, is release their code, and for user to register their own API and compile the app on their own. But this solution would answer only tech savi people.

The developer of Infinity for Reddit (Android app) said they were going to do just that.
I think the people that would seek out a third party app are mostly the kind of people that would do the extra work of copying and pasting an API key. It will definitely be a smaller userbase than before though.
I've heard this before and looked it up, but I found this article from the NIH that contradicts what you're saying.
Defibrillators are devices that send an electric pulse or shock to the heart to restore a normal heartbeat. They are used to prevent or correct an arrhythmia, an uneven heartbeat that is too slow or too fast. If the heart suddenly stops, defibrillators can also help it beat again.
There are certain devices that do do that, but it's not a defibrillator. A defibrillator will stop/prevent an arrhythmia by stopping the heart, and letting it restart on its own (hoping that it goes to a normal rhythm), and delivering further shocks if it gets back into one.
The device you're looking for to help a heart beat again would be a pacer, or a pacemaker, which will shock the heart to force it to pump, and restore rhythm that way. They're commonly used for conditions like heart failure, if the heartbeat generation systems/internal pacemaker can't generate a heartbeat quickly enough to sustain life.
I wouldn’t call it a “fiasco”, but they’re disabling port-forwarding for everyone on July 1st. They say it’s because people are hosting “unfavorable” content and it’s getting their IPs banned. Their article
Google needs to make the three Little Pigsels, a series of special starter Pixels for children. The three Pigsels come in Straw, Wood, or Brick, and feature a stock Android UI and a standard Pixel camera to get your child started on the correct path.
I work somewhere that doesn’t have licensing with Docker Inc. And I work on a Mac. With Docker desktop out of the picture, I got some experience with the alternatives. I know this post is about the native implementation and not the VM one, but I just wanted to add my 2 cents:
Alternatives run by me: Podman, Rancher Desktop, Finch
Results:
Podman uses a lot more energy on idle than Finch and Rancher. On AVG 4 more Wats on an M1. (Normal idle is about 5W, so 9 almost doubles it cutting greatly in my battery life)
Podman and Finch are not compatible with some tools that expect a full docker sock. In my case the AWS CDK and SAM CLI have issues. (Which is fun as Finch is also made by AWS)
Finch does not offer a sock at all
Finch requires you to recreate the full VM when updated.
If you really want to have a drop-in replacement for Docker Desktop, use Rancher Desktop. Rancher lacks in UI and the extension feature. But I never had issues with the sock, as I can run it with containerd.
Finch has no UI
Podman’s VM has clock drift if you put your machine in sleep. Only solution I found is to reboot the podman VM.
Podman allows you to log in the VM with a command. I haven’t found a way on the others.
I mean at least in Europe when you use a bidet you use soap and then still dry a few times with tp. These contraptions are good to soften the ass crud but you’ll still need to wipe it off with tp.
