JimVanDeventer , to memes in Its all Linux !!

I got in trouble in a discussion about the most popular Linux distro when I said it’s obviously Android.

tacofox ,

Jim: “what’s your favorite district” Mike: “Android of course” Jim: https://lemm.ee/pictrs/image/9fa16514-c24d-4192-8415-70ba5dc3176e.jpeg

JimVanDeventer ,

LOL Favourite? Jury is out. Most popular? Android all the way.

kittenzrulz123 ,

Thats like saying your favorite type of cheese is American, sure its technically cheese but its so processed and removed from cheese that its just not the same as mozzarella.

JimVanDeventer ,

I made grilled cheese for my father in law in India where it was not insignificantly difficult to find “American” bread and processed cheese. It’s comfort food that crosses borders and cultures.

Edit: You United Statesians got that weird cheese thing right and I will die on that hill.

I still refer to energy drinks as caffeinergy sauce.

Maalus , to science_memes in Suffering

100 people hands down. Infinite people means infinite lives removed, infinite experiences etc. The 100 people will never truly die either, so if minimizing death is the goal, that’s best. It also is the choice that will happen without your input and those are usually better morally than actively changing and sentencing other people to death by yourself.

abfarid ,

I vote for fair distribution of suffering, instead of to just 100 people.

Maalus ,

Why tho? Your choice is to condemn a few, versus kill more people than have died throughout all of history of humankind. 100 is a drop in a bucket compared to eternal genocide.

abfarid ,

It’s a communist thing. Fair distribution of wealth and suffering.

trolololol ,

It’s a capitalist assumption to think people with less karma goes first.

Would you change your answer based on where you are on the tracks?

AeroLemming ,

You don’t suffer after you’re dead. Being reincarnated and killed infinite times is infinitely worse than being killed once. If each trolley kills at the same rate, the actual amount of created suffering should be comparable, but I’d argue that since the infinite people don’t revive, we can assume that the trolley is replacing their normal deaths. This means that the suffering they would experience from dying normally never happens and the infinite people option actually creates less suffering overall.

Ultraviolet ,

Minimizing death by replacing it with eternal torment is some evil genie shit.

ChaoticNeutralCzech ,

Plus, it’s assumed that the trolley will never stop. It’s easier to utilize its free energy if it’s running in a circle.

JimmyBigSausage , to asklemmy in Honest question, how many of you watch the autoplaying videos on websites ?

I try to watch all of them. They are always super informative and entertaining. They always are about something I am interested in. They are always super short and never get in the way of what I am trying to read or actually view. I particularly like how they sometimes play more than one video so it can be a two for one!! Thanks internet ad gods!! /s

The Facts

Fact 2 Garbledina

AlecSadler , to technology in Does anyone know what happened to the Surface Duo?

Call me crazy, but I loved mine (near the end). No crease, could still multitask fine. The fact it folded shut kept me from opening and doom scrolling as much. Could throw a video on one screen and “tent” the phone easily.

But yeah, the software took awhile to get even “okay” out the gate and that really hurt the user experience. I felt I was always wrestling with mine over something for the first 6mos even.

twinnie , to internetfuneral in US8246454B2

People should be scared, this kind of thing will likely be normal eventually. It’s amazing how quick people just become normalised to shit like this. I remember a Reddit post about Angry Birds 2 where someone had posted a picture of it requiring an internet connection to play and then had just written “Uninstalled” beneath it; now like 80% of the free games out there require an internet connection to work. We could have Netflix that’s half the price and included password sharing, we could have all games working offline, and so much more, but there’s so many people out there simping for these corporations that don’t give a fuck about them.

skillissuer OP ,
@skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

that’s why i pirate everthing

i think it’s more of ignorance, there are people out there using normal internet without adblocks

nossaquesapao ,

So many things became normalized… paywalls, popups, clickbait titles, bloated sites, all sorts of data collection and abuse, geographic restrictions, being forced to have a phone with you all the time, having to use apps as the only means to access stuff outside from the internet, software obsolescence of functional hardware, and the list goes on.

And here we are, like boiling frogs, collectively accepting everything.

electric_nan , to selfhosted in What self hosting feels like (It's painful, please help 🥲)

Yeah, I can’t fuck with Docker either. Check out Yunohost if you want something that is actually easy to get up and running.

Flax_vert OP ,

I want to self host.

electric_nan ,

Yunohost is self hosting. You install Debian on your computer/server at home and run the Yunohost setup script.

Flax_vert OP ,

It seems to be it’s own operating system. Will this screw up my setup?

electric_nan ,

Probably yes. This would be for if you are starting fresh. It is a modified Debian install.

danciestlobster , to lemmyshitpost in Trump's answer today reminded me of his infamous "Nuclear" quote.

This now makes me wonder if I could call Trump and just claim to be some random famous person and he would take me seriously and go on the news about it. I honestly can’t decide what is weirder, making up a random, easily verifiably false story about lizardman calling to apologize to the ex president about his company, or the possibility that this may have actually happened.

superkret ,

It actually happened, except it wasn’t Marc Zuckerberg that called, but Jerry Zucker.

This reads like those early ai bots from when llms first started existing. It was just good enough to make coherent sentences sometimes.
