The petals of this rose are actually a stellar nursery where new stars are being born. This nebula has also been referred to as the “skull”, as it resembles a human skull in certain orientations.

If I rotate this picture 180°, it looks pretty much the same as the one in the OP.

You have a good eye

flora_explora ,

If you turn this upside down and squint a little, you get the skull from the image above!

There’s also the Reading festival. A common misconception is that it’s a music festival. It’s actually a festival of books.

illi , to asklemmy in How to deal with being bald?

I understand your feelings, as living with great hair and liking it and going to bald must suck. Take comfort in fact that it is temporary.

But as a bald man - being comoletely bald is fucking amazing. I can’t compare with having good hair - had short haircut all my childhood, decided to grow it longer in my mid teens (wanted to be a bit morr stylish) - and that’s about the time I started loosing my hair. So had to go to shorter lenghts so it’s not that obvious and went full bald around 17 when I had a visible bald patch anyway. So can’t compare but it was the best decision I made - both at the time and for the future. I shave once a week and everything is easy. And I was blessed with a great skull shape so looks good.

Much more salty about me not being able to grow decent facial hair though. That beard and bald look would be sick but oh well. We have to play with cards we were dealt.

Moonguide , to gaming in What EldenSoulsBorne boss gave you an embarrassing amount of trouble?

Lady butterfly. Died 47 times against her. I’d always dodged instead of parry in soulslikes, and she kicked my ass over it.

Hestia ,
@Hestia@hexbear.net avatar

Yeah, sekiro can really throw you off if you just see it as another souls game. Parrying was the main combat mechanic when its usually worthless in every other souls game.

And God damn, parrying is so satisfying in it. Learning how to parry properly makes you feel like a fucking samurai.

Maerman , to asklemmy in What is a less popular type/genre of movies that you watch ? What makes it interesting for you ?

It used to be very popular, so I don’t know if this qualifies, but I watch a lot of noir and neo-noir. Specifically, I like the ones told from the criminal’s perspective. Films like Double Indemnity, Body Heat and The Postman Always Rings Twice are great places to start.

Diddlydee ,

The Maltese Falcon is great, and if you like black and white, I can’t recommend Brief Encounter enough. Excellent English love story.

felbane , to selfhosted in Selfhost and play Spotify playlists

There’s Finamp, a music client for Jellyfin with offline playback. I’ve not used it personally yet, but with Spotify ratcheting up prices again I’m in the process of switching to self-hosting my music library. When that’s up and running it’s at the top of my list for Android clients.

Bluefruit ,

Jellyfin was my go to as well. It was really nice to play with and finamp was as well. Once setup it was just as easy and nice to use as Spotify without all the ads and Spotify randomly playing songs after i finish a podcast episode.

peregus OP ,

Good to know, thanks! Do you know a way to download the Spotify playlist in Jellyfin without the need to do it manually?

MrBobDobalina , to gaming in What EldenSoulsBorne boss gave you an embarrassing amount of trouble?

The first Headless I encountered in Sekiro. I was seeing enough progress and understanding what was being asked of me just enough to be stubborn as hell and kept trying to fight it head on, without having any knowledge yet of any helpful items that make the fight less rage-enducing.

Outside of Fromsoft, my NG+ encounter with the green swamp monster thing in Lies of P seemed SO much harder than the first time. So I’m not sure if this boss is considered easy or hard, but I didn’t consider it to be very hard going in for a second time and got quite stuck for a while…

gravitas_deficiency , to asklemmy in What is the Orb?

The orb is.

NarrativeBear ,

Is orb the.

ZarkleFarkle ,

Yes. But also many. Every Orb has special but very similar properties.

ZarkleFarkle ,

You’ve created an Orb in your own mind. Try to shrink and control it. Don’t think about it too much or it’ll drive you crazy.

Don’t worry though, lots of famous people, like even “Tomska and Ashens”, have got Orbs, and they unknowingly spread them without ever going insane themselves.

gravitas_deficiency ,

The orb is.

ZarkleFarkle ,

Yeah. The Orb can do computer programming in Lisp/Lambda Calculus to make simulations as well, which it’s possible to do in your own mind.

electricprism , to fediverse in What do you want to have in a Lemmy instance?

Management that has multiple conflicting ideology and walks of life but respect each other and has a professionalism and tolerance for people they disagree with and invite them to discuss instead of ruling with a iron fist like feudal fief lords.

OP clearly doesn’t know what the three shells are for.

Blue_Morpho , to linuxmemes in Have you tried NixOS?

I’d been hearing a lot about NixOS so I did a VM install. It wanted me to setup my own partitions manually without even giving preset sane defaults like I was back in 1994 installing Slackware.

Nope. My OS is a tool, not a lifestyle.

Chef6652 ,

There is a Gnome/KDE installer too now ;)

cizra ,

The obvious sane default is 1 partition covering the whole disk, + EFI system partition. What’s there to offer…

lemmyvore ,

I mean, if we’re talking sane you shouldn’t need more than one partition.

Laser ,

Encryption? Also you’re assuming there’s only one block device…

assuming the person before did not just mean partitioning, but also all other storage-related tasks

superkret ,

Slackware still does that in 2024.

Laser ,

This is the opposite of me. I always get nervous when I don’t have precise control over how the disk layout looks. I explicitly decided for the non-graphical installer when I first downloaded NixOS

MTK ,

My OS is also a tool!

Those jerk OSs and their bullying!

I need to compile my kernel… by hand with tools from beige-age computing.

suction ,

So? If that’s too much for you, use Chrome OS

qqq ,

Sounds like you haven’t done it in a while. It has calamares installer now.

turnipjs OP ,

How long ago did you try? You should try again, I did not have this experience setting up with the graphical installer a few weeks ago.

suction ,

Where do you draw the line though between tool and lifestyle? At setting up partitions (which is a trivial thing I would not mind at all)?

Wooki ,

it wanted me to setup my own partitions manually

You’ve obviously never used nix, it’s GUI installer can auto configure just fine.

When your OS AND apps are declared and stateful a lot of risk and complexity is removed. Configuring is just a bad experience with poor usability and worse documentation.
