I’ve long been thinking about writing some technical things I didn’t find easily on the internet down somewhere....

I have an old laptop that I want to turn into a server, but I want it to be as seamless as possible. I don’t have any knowledge in web hosting, so I’ll use whatever distribution makes it easiest....

Is there a way that users could cohost an instance? If there isn’t, I think that would be a great feature to implement. Having a situation where instances slow down or even occasionally disconnect will be hard on any community. I feel like it could eventually cause people to prefer using instances owned by large and well...

At the moment i use a super hacky and unstable setup where multiple instances of everything in ETP server mode run under a windows core VM, and when it works, it works fine. But sometimes it stops updating the index, sometimes it just crashes, sometimes serves the wrong db, and so on....

How is a fediverse user supposed to find communities? I can’t find a way to search across the fediverse, which pretty much kills the concept IMO. I was browsing All via Lemmy.world - Mlem - iOS and my feed is half anime porn, with some pictures depicting underage and others not blurred as NSFW....
