Do you believe Lemmy/Mastodon can become mainstream and fully replace their centralized counterparts?
What the title says. I think there is still a long way for that to happen but i’ve been hopeful. What do you think?
There have been multiple accounts created with the sole purpose of posting advertisement posts or replies containing unsolicited advertising.
Accounts which solely post advertisements, or persistently post them may be terminated.

First shitpost to make it truly like reddit. Can I downvote myself?
This cable tester have a broken LED making it look like cables are defect
It feels like they’re two different roles. It might be better to have user-orientated servers that prioritise federation of content and only have a couple of meta-style communities, and other servers which prioritise being the go-to place for discussion on a particular topic and less a place that manages a large number of user...
I’d like to login on an instance that doesn’t block other instances and I get to decide what and what not I want to see
" oh sweet summer child " you might be thinking, and yeah. I got no clue....
To support decentralization and spread, should lemmy.world close registration at some point to prevent a performance overload due to too many users? Of course, if registration is disabled, there could be a hint placed somewhere near that from other instances you can interact with content on lemmy.world just like you had...
With the many Reddit style shitposts appearing, I’m wondering if there’s a way for users to block certain communities or servers. Sync for Reddit made doing this easy -blocking the noise was the only reason I could use Reddit....

The world is so detailed, I just want to know about it. Like… What’s the alien Zorg has as a pet and things like that. Are the movies really just kind of self-contained, or are they inspired/based on something? Are there maybe books set in the world?
Absolutely love the work done so far by the mods, it’s a thankless tasks, but you’re all doing excellent. Only comment I have is there are too many pinned threads at the moment (at least on the LiftOff app), it takes a while to scroll past them. Not sure if anybody else is having this?
Pretty sure the answer is no, just double checking before subbing to some, uh, weirder interests.

I used to love getting lost in virtual worlds. My favorite games were the ones that I could explore for hours: New Vegas, Skyrim, Hollow Knight, Breath of the Wild, Outer Wilds, Outer Worlds, KOTOR, The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, (okay you get the idea). A game felt like a bargain if my attention span was the only the only thing...
We have Lemmy.world, Lemmy.ml, beehaw.org, I think even yiffit.net. If I log in using wefwef it asks me where I want to login. And when I make a new account using another instance, it says ”… Lemmy is federated, so you can interact with everything on lemmy.ml even if you’re registered on a different instance.“ So if...

How will Lemmy handle illegal content like drug dealing, child porn, snuff movies etc? On Reddit, the corporation is accountable so they will make an effort to ensure non of this exists on their platform. And they would face legal troubles if they failed to act....
As of today I’ve noticed a few posts on the old Piracy sub talking about the megathread being replaced. I’m aware of the recent mod team changes...
I recently upgraded my Homeserver and wanted to start hosting some gameservers for me and my friends. I read a lot about Pterodactyl and saw that there were other options....
After listening to a few clips of The Silmarillion narrated by Andy Serkis, I am interested in seeing if I could actually get used to listening to audiobooks. I usually can’t focus enough on audio alone to keep up with a book but now I’m thinking it might be more of a narration quality thing than anything else....
Why YSK: good journalism has a lot of costs (and not one-time-only), in time if not in money, so if any “news” source isn’t at least trying to get paid somehow*, then it indicates that the supply at zero price exceeds the demand (it is a “free good”), which means one of two things:...
