Is really possible to understand the magnitude of ones own brain?
Think about it. The more you learned about your brain the more complex it would become. Also I’m not sure we have enough capacity to reflect on ourselves by processing everything. Think about the massive complexity of every connection. Could someone actually process that or are we limited by ourselves?
Is virtualbox the best way to try a Linux distro on Windows before installing it as dual boot ?
Anyone using a BananaPi r2 /r3 for your router?
My family needs a new router to replace the old (though not old enough that it should be dying) netgear router that is slowly dying. I want to do something with good foss firmware like opnsense or openwrt. I was thinking that the BananaPi options look good, but had some concerns. I would like to install the firmware myself,...
Beijing intervenes in China’s solar industry as overcapacity dries up profit in the country's domestic market
China’s energy regulator said it will limit “low-end” solar panel manufacturing after industry leaders called for more government intervention earlier this month. The move is an acknowledgement by Beijing that solar panel overcapacity is a problem, one that has pushed Chinese solar firms into a price war and shriveled...
Is this a bad idea? Mesh/VPN
I’ve made a few posts in the past about my experimentation with connecting various devices and servers over a VPN (hub and spoke configuration) as well as my struggles adapting my setup towards a mesh network....

Why are fuel perks at grocery stores so ubiquitous?
This seems insane to me. I live in a city where maybe 50-60% of people have cars, and most don’t drive them that much. Yet every grocery store I’m aware of with the sole exception of the expensive Whole Foods has a fuel rewards points program. Reasons this should be controversial enough to enable a low-cost alternative:...

I have been planning to install Kinoite on my laptop, dual booting with Windows....
Next up: Struggles getting my HBA to see SAS drives (don't think it's 3.3v or 512 vs 520). What should I try?
Me again, back with another probably dumb question, but you beautiful bastards have been so helpful so far, I can’t stay away!...
I've gone to lots of secondhand stores, but I've never once seen a raspberry beret for sale.
At this point, I’m wondering if there is enough of a quantity of raspberry berets in secondhand stores to identify the kind you would find in one.

Opinions on career transition from Digital Cinema to Cybersecurity?
I currently work as Helpdesk analyst for a company that produces projectors. I am on the NOC that field technicians call into for any assistance. I would describe my job as having some elements of network, software, and hardware troubleshooting. Ultimately with my end goal I want to get into cybersecurity and be on a SOC...
Would it be possible to install Linux on this HP Chromebook Plus?
This is the laptop in question. It has an x86 processor so basically any distro should work on it. However, it is still a Chromebook which likely means Google fuckery in the BIOS. But it’s great value for the money (can get it $300 off at Costco) and if I can plop Linux on to it then I’d love it.
How do I make an image (or video) safe to post online?
I can scribble out identifying info (text, landmarks, faces) in an image, but I’ve heard images can have some geographic data. How do I remove that?...

Tailscale/synology/NFS remote access
UPDATE (13:40 ET / 2024-07-05): Got the connection working via SMB. Literally the only thing I changed was moving to a credentials file rather than specifying credentials inline, so … I’ll be trying to figure out what mystery affliction prevented the connection before. Leaving this up because there are a bunch of great...
