Let’s say i download an iso for my latest favourite distro and, after unpacking the rar (usenet) i find the right contents but all the filenames are a bunch of hexadecimal strings. The files are legit, but how do i “decode” the names to know which one is file n.1, file n.2 and so on?
I’ve got a NAS built in a Node 304 mini itx case that works great, but uses a ton of power. In Unraid (the OS for my NAS) there is some kind of issue with the Ryzen 3900x processor that I’m running that means I have to disable all sleep states - so it’s always at it’s 100W TDP. Power is super expensive where I live so...
I’ve been researching NAS and am figuring out how one can play into my current home setup. There’s a lot I don’t know even after researching. Best I explain to clear things up....
Hi. Does anyone have any recommendations for FOSS shopping list software for android, which has a “sync” feature so that it can be used by the whole family?...
I used to have RARBG in sonarr and everything worked beautifully. Since they shut down my indexers sometimes don’t find the available torrents. The only one that kind of works is piratebay. I like the torrentlite website but I’ve been waiting for it to appear in the list of indexers in jackett. Is there any way for me to add...
I currently have a Dell laptop that runs Windows for work. I use an external SSD via the Thunderbolt port to boot Linux allowing me to use the laptop as a personal device on a completely separate drive. All I have to do is F12 at boot, then select boot from USB drive....
Probably a stupid question, but when signing up for an IPTV service, do you give real details? If not, how do you make them up?! Or do they require real details?
These days I searched and try to understand more about Mastodon alternatives, and see Pleroma and Misskey (and his forks) are more lightweight than Mastodon, and saw some people says Mastodon has some security vulnerabilities....
Is there a way to normalize system tray icon sizes? Currently they just look awful on my work machine and growing or shrinking the panel just makes the disparity worse.
By far, the feature I most sorely miss in Linux compared to macOS is Quick Look. Press the space bar, see file contents. Use the arrow keys, view different files. Simple, quick, and WAY faster than opening an entire app every single time I want to check the contents of a file. I also miss the column view in conjunction with...
Just saw on Titus Tech Talk that torrents are last decade, and newsgroups is where it’s at for this stuff. Of course he didn’t elaborate, so I need some help here....
So I have a nearly full 4 TB hard drive in my server that I want to make an offline backup of. However, the only spare hard drives I have are a few 500 GB and 1 TB ones, so the entire contents will not fit all at once, but I do have enough total space for it. I also only have one USB hard drive dock so I can only plug in one...
So for the past few years (?) I have been using wireguard to vpn into (effectively) my firewall and a dynamic dns setup to access that remotely. But with the shitshow that is google domains and the like, this seems like a good opportunity to look into a few of the alternatives. I am not entirely opposed to just going in and...
Hey y’all, what have you been playing!...
Assuming we are talking about an era when Sol has a thriving space industry and the Solar system is broadly colonized. Current materials science supports structures up to 8 kilometers in diameter, and if large scale graphene production is possible, up to 100km in diameter, at least according to Isaac Arthor....
Just a list of books I’ve read over the years....

Nostr and Mastodon have both positioned themselves as “twitter alternatives” and both offer some degree of federation. I have done quite a bit of reading and testing with both and am writing this in case you are curious about which one may work best for you....
Feel like we’ve got a lot of tech savvy people here seems like a good place to ask. Basically as a dumb guy that reads the news it seems like everyone that lost their mind (and savings) on crypto just pivoted to AI. In addition to that you’ve got all these people invested in AI companies running around with flashlights under...
