Hey, y’all! Just another random, loudmouthed, opinionated, Southern-fried nerdy American living abroad.

I’m moving off kbin to lemmy, so I won’t be posting from here (unless kbin social gets it together).

American cops are trigger happy, especially with a non-white target. And they know all they have to say is “I feared for my life” to get away with it.

IIRC, that’s part of why they’re pulling out of Florida. DeSantis made it law that they can’t change premiums based on climate change, so they’ve decided it makes more sense for them to pull out than risk huge payouts when they can’t change premiums.

Texas troopers told to push children into Rio Grande, deny water to migrants, records say (www.houstonchronicle.com)

Officers working for Gov. Greg Abbott’s border security initiative have been ordered to push small children and nursing babies back into the Rio Grande, and have been told not to give water to asylum seekers even in extreme heat, according to an email from a Department of Public Safety trooper who described the actions as...

I’m not surprised it’s so popular, but I’ll admit to being surprised it’s so popular in India and Brazil. Is Instagram really popular in those countries, or is it something else?

Perhaps asking in a wefwef community/magazine would be more productive if you really want an answer. Otherwise, it seems like you’re just complaining about seeing someone because you personally aren’t interested. Those of us commenting and upvoting, however, are.

I couldn’t help but notice how the article didn’t even mention the studio exec who said the plan was to wait until writers stating losing their homes before negotiating.

If there’s class warfare happening, they fired first.

I mean, let I checked, I didn’t have a combat avionics system in my jeans pocket.

Thank you!

I can see why they’d want to streamline the award system, since it is a bit messy, but they’re getting rid of something that made Reddit unique and that people seemed to like, for…what, exactly?

Maybe the cops should try not being violent.

stopthatgirl7 ,
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

…oh. Oh, that’s gonna make hurricane season bad.

The only thing big corporations care about is next quarter’s profits. The world can quite literally burn next year if they get their big profits this quarter.

stopthatgirl7 OP ,
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

Unfortunately, a lot of folks in power would happily watch the world burn if it means they stay in power. They know they’re rich enough that it won’t hurt them.

stopthatgirl7 OP ,
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

I’d say we’re in the fourth circle. Greed is what got us here, after all.

stopthatgirl7 OP ,
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

That is beyond not ok. Nope.

I love how they tried a bait board and it didn’t work. She knows the real boards have people on them.

Not only that, water released from Fukushima wouldn’t even go into the Sea of Japan. Fukushima is on the east coast of Japan. Water released from it would be going into the Pacific.

Twitter literally just started paying people who tweet, so spez really is just copying Elon.

It tells you exactly the kind of bubble he’s living in. He likely thinks it’s going great for Elon and Twitter.

Actors say Hollywood studios want their AI replicas — for free, forever (www.theverge.com)

“This ‘groundbreaking’ AI proposal that they gave us yesterday, they proposed that our background performers should be able to be scanned, get one day’s pay, and their companies should own that scan, their image, their likeness and should be able to use it for the rest of eternity on any project they want, with no...

So they’re getting rid of coins and awards, but don’t have any kind of replacement actually planned yet?

They should have held off until they knew what the replacement would be. As it is, they’re yanking something that made Reddit unique for…what, exactly?

stopthatgirl7 ,
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

And oh look, it’s only available for people in the US! Because only Americans know things, amirite? 🙄

All they had to do was do nothing.

stopthatgirl7 OP ,
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

Iirc, you can follow them from lemmy. Kbin will let you interact because they show up in a special “microblog” area, but I’m not sure how lemmy handles it.

stopthatgirl7 OP ,
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

Only I’m using kbin, not lemmy. Kbin and lemmy handle federation differently, so we’ll have to wait and see when someone on lemmy interacts.

There aren’t any kbin apps yet, but there are a few in development. The one furthest along is Artemis, and it’s in closed beta testing. @ArtemisApp

Stray really disappointed me. I want a real cat game.

Just an open world survival game, only you’re a cat, dealing with regular cat problems. You have to hunt, avoid larger animals, compete with other cats, figure out which humans are dangerous and which will give you treats, judiciously spray things to maintain your territory, maybe mate and reproduce (your sex and fertility...

stopthatgirl7 ,
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

I think I would have really liked Stray if it hadn’t had those enemies you had to avoid. I stopped playing when I hit a puzzle where I kept getting eaten, even though I liked the world and the mystery of what happened to all the people. And loved walking around being a cat and knocking things over.

How often have games made you do a double take in real life? (i.imgur.com)

Maybe you see a plant you have to collect in game or a rock wall that looks different. What items have you caught out of the corner of your eye that you realized was just your brain so focused on looking for things in a game that you saw it IRL and made you double take?

stopthatgirl7 ,
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

Right when I was playing Horizon Forbidden West, I saw a wrapped up chair that had tape in a blue cross on it, so it looked exactly like the things you can use your pullcaster on in the game. My first thought upon glancing at it was “Oh, I can use my pullcaster on that!”

…No. No, I can not. It’s real life; I do not have a pullcaster and there are no robot dinosaurs.

Blue LEDs can trigger migraines in us poor saps who are photosensitive, so them being all over the place has been a ton of fun, let me tell you.

I got reddish-brown tints for my glasses and it’s been a lifesaver.
