smileyhead OP , to linux in Nice Unix sticker pack for 1$ with free shipping.

I think the price is more to prevent people from spamming orders than to actually make money. StickerMule is propably losing on this stickers to make their site more recognized.

They keep printing quality of their other products and it’s great. The price is propably a gift to community and/or some soft of advertisment.

Just learned about rg, thanks.

smileyhead , to fediverse in Idea: fediverse of ecommerce. Time to dethrone amazon and ebay. What do you think?

I think having your own store you control, like with WooCommerce, is enough.

What we need is more freedom respecting payment system and the closest thing I saw someone is working on is GNU Taler.

There are better ideas to do the same, such as GNU Taler, that could be incorporated into existing Internet infractructure, work locally and be more environment friendly.

smileyhead , to linux in What are some things you wish you had known when switching to Linux?

That I shouldn’t care as much about installed packages I no longer use. Sure, going through installed programs and cleaning up from time to time is ok, but no need to panic if something sticks around.

Especially when I installed something manually needing dependencies for programming, I tend to write down names of installed packages and then managing it manually, because I wasn’t yet aware what their names mean. Now using same OS for over a year, heavly testing stuff, having multiple desktop enviroments and not cleaning it up my system partition is taking less than 30GB, compared to 1TB disk it’s nothing.

I’d rather spend my time learning how computer and operating systems works instead of spending time learning how to avoid Windows roadblocks.

Don’t forget propably relaying on old IPv4. ICANN domain space and DNS, IANA addressing space…

smileyhead , to asklemmy in [SOLVED] Will Linux Phones ever become commercially viable and decrease to a price point of 200-400 USD?

They shouldn’t be used, not on Android, not on the web, not on Linux. We should not show companies, banks and our goverment that we are capable of giving up our freedom for some convience.

Maybe if I’ll be doing buissness and need to do multiple money transfers a day I’ll be using their web apps on a computer, but as I am individual person, I give friends cash and pay online via other methods.

Would like to recommend Beeper but not until they free their apps.

smileyhead , to asklemmy in [SOLVED] Will Linux Phones ever become commercially viable and decrease to a price point of 200-400 USD?

All it is needed is to have at least equivalents of basic apps from F-Droid and we’re getting there.

Propietary apps for accessing one smart toilet seat brand or some trash locked down social platform should be abandoned anyway.

They don’t have to ask for cookies permission, just like they don’t have to ask for sending you JavaScript code (but should) or CSS styles. What they have to do is ask for permission for collecting personal data or sending it to third-parties. That’s all.

smileyhead , to fediverse in GitLab plans support for ActivityPub

Git is decentralized, but services like GitHub/GitLab/Gitea/SourceHut are adding things like issue board, pull requests, planners… Those are historically only on the platform and it needs to be decentralized too, because not every project wants to use biggest platform like GitHub or host something themselfs, while contributors and users don’t want to have multiple accounts for multiple forges.

What’s with FSF? If it’s free software and SaaSS, there is no “forcing” by their words.

Fingers crossed it’s going to be compatible with what ForgeFed is working hard for years 🤞.

Gitea/Forgejo/Codeberg have ongoing work implementing this.
