Just a reminder that this murderer killed a libertarian active duty army Sargent veteran airman that saw police violence as wrong. Abbott is celebrating the murder of a soldier killed at home.

Edit: I incorrectly identified Garrett Foster’s honorable service.

You might like a VM for Windows instead, so there’s no risk of a windows update taking a hammer to your bootloader

rockSlayer ,

genuinely curious since I’ve never tried or even considered it. What happens when you have multiple desktops installed, and assuming it doesn’t cause issues why would a person want to do that?

rockSlayer ,

That’s pretty cool! My immediate reaction to hearing “minimal backup DE for troubleshooting” is wondering why that isn’t far more common

Arizona accuses Amazon of being a monopoly and deceiving consumers with “dark patterns” (www.theverge.com)

Arizona’s Attorney General, Kris Mayes, filed two lawsuits against Amazon on Wednesday for allegedly engaging in deceptive business practices and maintaining monopoly status. The first lawsuit accuses the company of using dark patterns to keep users from canceling their Amazon Prime subscriptions, violating Arizona’s...

rockSlayer ,

about damn time a company was targeted in a lawsuit over dark patterns.

rockSlayer ,

I’d also call it very liberal. Scratch a lib and all that

rockSlayer ,

We’re talking about these dickheads again?

rockSlayer ,

Yep, have this one committed to memory. Though if it asked me to uncompress a tarball, then I’d be fucked

rockSlayer , (edited )

“sig what now? Sounds like the trans liberal leftist nazi woke agenda to me”

rockSlayer ,

Stadium country is garbage. Dark country and folk music actually does interesting things with those terms.

rockSlayer ,

I think this is a symptom of people losing their sense of cause and effect over political talking points. A shelter rightfully speaks out against power, as it should, but because of culture war nonsense they get upset and start defunding important things. Then they don’t understand why it’s struggling financially and the community is worse off.

We’re also seeing similar things with libraries, where parents want to ban books for everyone because their “objectional content” is located in the adults section and their kid might be where they shouldn’t. The libraries get defunded, close, and then the conservatives get shocked that something important to the community is closing.

bullshit. cis- is a latin prefix that means “on this side of”. So for example, the Roman region Cisalpine Gaul could reasonably be interpreted as “the part of Gaul that’s on our side of the Alpines”. The prefix trans- is the antonym meaning “on the far side”. Transalpine Gaul was the part of the Roman empire on the other side of the Alpines. When related to gender, the only way cisgender can be read in any context is “their gender aligns with their sex”. There is no way that could ever be reasonably be interpreted as a slur.

rockSlayer ,

I don’t identify with being labelled as Homo Sapiens sapiens. Alleging I am human is a slur

Chinese police were allowed into Australia to speak with a woman. They breached protocol and escorted her back to China (www.abc.net.au)

Chinese police hunting international corruption targets were allowed into Australia by the federal police and subsequently escorted a woman back to China for trial, in a major breach of Chinese-Australian police protocols....

rockSlayer ,

They forgot to switch to their alt lmao

rockSlayer ,

Block Fox and the other right wing news stations, but also a couple liberal news stations like NBC. When they call you for tech support, tell them it’s a weird issue happening with cable lately

rockSlayer ,

Lmao check out all the salty libs seeing themselves get called out in these comments.

  • sincerely, an anarcho-syndicalist
rockSlayer ,

Because in politics, liberal means something else entirely. It’s an ideology defined by support for capitalism.

rockSlayer ,

No, not just in American politics. Liberal politics is a very specific thing.

rockSlayer ,

I returned because I noticed your edit. I was being a bit snide, mostly because the meme is assuming everyone who calls someone a lib is authoritarian-aligned. If you’d like to know about the positive work I do as an organizer, I’d be happy to share. However, to me those actions are just the right thing to do and not worth bringing up randomly.

rockSlayer ,

I’ve thought about this for most of the day. Social Democracy (think Denmark, Norway, Sweden, etc) is probably the best out of all capitalist ideologies, but is still subject to the regressive nature of private capital. Other than that, most of them are complete dogshit. Capitalist monarchies, “anarcho-capitalism” (read neo-feudalism), US libertarianism, capitalist oligarchy, fascism*, etc are awful for regular people and horribly lacking in their analysis of capital and it’s relationship between the capitalists and workers. We’re currently living under neoliberal democracy, so imagine things getting much worse for us. That’s what most of those ideologies are like.

  • it should be noted that fascism is mostly just a death cult that loves hierarchies like capitalism.
rockSlayer ,

I bet the poor fellas ended up like RFK’s worms too. Starved to death

rockSlayer ,

yes, they do. Both* US political parties are neoliberal parties. Regulation of markets is still a free market. Unions do not inherently oppose free markets either.

  • must go back at least 10 years for this to be true for Republicans

So what if the car is sold at a loss? I also find that extremely hard to believe when BYD Company has a net income of nearly $23 Billion dollars, and their largest subsidiary is BYD Auto.

rockSlayer ,

Very well thought out, thanks for replying and being honest that no one can accurately assess the outcome of this move yet.

In my eyes, including subsidies in a company’s financials feels more honest than the alternative, though I’d like to see a breakdown of income vs subsidies. I also feel that criticisms of subsidies are hypocritical in this instance, considering that US farming is held up by duct tape, spit, and subsidies.

I do also understand the concerns about being reliant on a single country’s manufacturing and how it could impact national defense, though I would like to submit that we’re already so reliant on Chinese manufacturing capabilities at this point that seeding discord like this is going to have some negative consequences in other markets manufactured in China.

Based on the video, there seems to be multiple opportunities for use of the heated pocket pussy

the ‘O’ in REPORT feels like a directive to block, rather than do what you feel you need to avoid being brought into the issue. I’m sure if I put a few minutes into it I could come up with a recommendation on how to change it, but I’m emotionally exhausted today.

US airlines are suing the Biden administration over a new rule to make certain fees easier to spot (apnews.com)

U.S. airlines are suing to block the Biden administration from requiring greater transparency over fees that the carriers charge their passengers, saying that a new rule would confuse consumers by giving them too much information during the ticket-buying process....

Easy W for Southwest. They’ve had enough bad pr over the years.

Edit for those that didn’t read, Southwest is the only major airline that isn’t suing

I’m an activist writing a housing bill to get introduced to my state legislature. Part of it specifically addresses these platforms, but I don’t know what’s been tried against them yet. Any tips?

Europe in 2 months:

I don’t understand where all these afgan immigrants are coming from. They should fix their own problems

rockSlayer ,

Yea, there’s that too. I was mostly thinking about how Europe is getting more xenophobic and caring less about climate change

rockSlayer ,

Yea, of course. This article is specifically about Germany, but notes that it’s a trend across Europe

rockSlayer ,

I work for a video game company, and I promise you’re being far too generous about their motives. This NDA prevents press from doing press. If the alpha is bad, they’re not allowed to say how or why it’s bad, at all.

rockSlayer ,

Nah, this is a pathetic attempt to get free ads from games journalists without any downsides

rockSlayer ,

I’m on publisher QA side. Every so often, around this time of year, my company does closed internal playtests for games that are on the pre-alpha release candidate (usually it’s the ones they expect to be blockbusters). Generally when a pre-alpha RC is selected for this, a very small subsection of the game is highly polished to give Users an honest preview of what the devs expect the launch game to be. Obviously since it’s in alpha a lot of things will be changed and there are a lot of game breaking bugs to be found still, but the general experience should still be up for discussion if it was bad. I know it’s possible to imagine a game in alpha as released, because part of my job is to give professional feedback to the producers without ever mentioning unfinished or bugged aspects of the game.

rockSlayer ,

Alpha testing is, by definition, testing on unreleased code. Even though they are offering the testing to some select group of people, it’s still considered un-released.

I go out of my way to explain how alphas are typically done as a games industry professional, and you’re still out here spewing the same nonsense? get outta here. This is not a defensible action by a corporation. When a game reaches alpha, the whole of the game is unready but the part used in the public playtests are extensively reviewed by QA and gets as polished as possible. When a game is at alpha stage, it’s by definition gone through multiple release candidates.

Just so it doesn’t get understated, there has literally never been a single change in US relations with Israel since 1948. This is the single biggest policy change the State department has ever made.

rockSlayer ,

This is a public signal by the State department, which has influence backed by federal law. It’s a warning that the bombs will dry up if any US arms are used in the aid of war crimes. Yes. Everyone knows that US arms have been used in Israeli war crimes. That’s the point of the message, and will have enormous shifts in foreign policy by the entirety of NATO.

Edit: the direct answer to your question is that the US has never warned Israel like this. They have never threatened to end military aid.

rockSlayer ,

You’re reading far too into it. The person said that they are willing to let him pass on this specific mistake. The person is not saying that they forgive Trump.

rockSlayer ,

My siblings and I are the closest we’ve ever been. I forget their ages constantly. I forget my age constantly. I love my parents. I never remember their ages and nearly every year I need to be reminded when their birthdays are. I barely remember my own birthday, usually I don’t even care unless my birthday is on a Friday or a weekend. Not everyone is you.

rockSlayer ,

Personally, I do not care at all about birthdays or specific ages. To me, this feels like a nothing story to keep eyes on Trump.

The State Department said that Israel's military campaign in Gaza may have violated international law. (www.nytimes.com)

The Biden administration has concluded it is “reasonable to assess” that Israel’s military campaign in Gaza has violated international law, but has not found specific instances that would justify the withholding of military aid, the State Department told Congress on Friday....

rockSlayer ,

Yes, it is. Because if our weapons continue to be shipped to Israel and used Gaza, then it would be a violation of federal law to continue those weapons shipments. And yes, any senior government officials still trying to give arms to Israel after that point should be brought to trial.

rockSlayer ,

That’s because the State department typically doesn’t refer to specific statutes when signalling policy changes. To read the laws that I’m referring to, look for the International Traffic in Arms Regulations and the Arms Export Control Act.

I listen to these podcasts at work

  • Unfuck the Republic (unftr)
  • Behind the Bastards
  • The Deprogram

I also like to listen to news, video essays, and speeches while working. It helps keep the variety up. Something else to consider is getting a library card to checkout audiobooks on some streaming apps
