The irony being that US roads have obscenely ample room for bike infrastructure compared to European ones.

realitista ,

Then why are they letting Russia use starlink?

realitista ,

Seems to be only comments, not posts, though.

realitista ,

Ah I have “hide upvoted” on, that’s why I don’t see it.

realitista ,

Wait just realized I don’t actually have “hide read” on on this account(that’s on my other accounts), yet I only see comments and not posts in the upvotes section. Is there a chance that my instance doesn’t support it?

After the downfall of Mail and eMclient simultaneously putting the clamps down, I’m happily rediscovering Thunderbird

Tasks are missing completely not to speak of all of the advanced task management functions of old outlook.

Unfortunately as long as he remains a a loyal puppet state of Moscow he will probably get to stay in power. He will just need to host some Russian nukes and allow Putin to make attacks from his soil with Hungarian troops.

realitista ,

I tried it and it had a hard time giving me the right focus with the inserts they had at the store, so wasn’t quite as clear as my PSVR2 with good inserts. But the resolution and tracking are great. It’s a very good proof of concept for AR, but that’s about it.

For me, VR gaming is my main use case, and PSVR2 is the most cost effective way to get a high end experience there for me.

IMO AVP isn’t cost effective for anything unless you really need to have 10 iPad screens open at once, and even then it’s only marginally cheaper than buying 10 iPads.

Any post indicating that the fight should be taken to Russia will get modded on [email protected] and given a warning.

Honestly there aren’t that many, they are just very prolific. I’ve blocked about 10-12 and seemed to have more or less solved the problem.

But there is also a problem with tankie moderation on Lemmy.ml, where god forbid you point out that China and russia have conquered countries in recent history and the US hasn’t. They’ll remove those. So I am thinking about just blocking Lemmy.ml and lemmygrad altogether.

There are, unfortunately, tons of these these days. I usually figure it out halfway through the video and block the channel, but it wastes a lot of time. Same with the stuff Facebook recommends to me, most of it ends up being AI generated images these days.

But assuming that one has to be dominant, which would you choose of the ones that are realistic possibilities?

realitista ,

Unfortunately I don’t think it will work. If “BRICS” was somehow in charge, China would just take over.

realitista , (edited )

So you are okay with living under extreme censorship? Not being able to talk about Tienamin Square, etc? Okay with being complicit in atrocities like Tibet, and inevitably Taiwan if unopposed?

realitista ,

Interesting for you to fold under even the first question to explain your position, but so be it.

realitista ,

Who is that? Certainly none of the countries that could actually take up the mantle. And I fear that any country that could would finally become imperialist. If we say that the top 3 competitors are US, China, and Russia, there’s only one that hasn’t actively attempted conquest and annexation of their neighbors.

realitista ,

Do you consider things which happened hundreds of years ago to be of the same weight as things that are happening as we speak?

realitista ,

I don’t, but if given a choice between living under a power that’s actively attacking and subjugating its neighbors and committing genocides and one that’s not, I’ll take the one that’s not.

realitista ,

Interested to hear which countries the US has attempted to annex in the last century.

realitista ,

Definition of imperialism: The extension of a nation’s authority by territorial acquisition or by the establishment of economic and political dominance over other nations.

Definition of hegemony: The dominance or leadership of one social group or nation over others.

I would be a little more nuanced with my definitions personally. I think Russia is textbook imperialist. I think China is borderline imperialist, and I think the USA is more hegemonic.

I think all 3 play all the same games except that the USA doesn’t play in territorial expansion, which for me is a big improvement over those that do.

realitista ,

That’s a false equivalence. Every country is imperialist if you go back far enough. My concern is about today’s political and security situation, not that of 200+ years ago.

realitista ,

So basically ongoing imperialist conquest and subjugation in modern times is justified because anyone did it in the past? Bullshit.

How will this affect the Lemmy client Voyager? Is it considered a web app? My understanding was that it was.

realitista ,

Ah didn’t know it was in the App Store now. Good. Thanks.

realitista ,

It’s hilarious how Apple still insists on making all their mobile devices USB 2. Have they not cracked the code for USB 3 after 11 years?

realitista ,

Yes only the very top model. But get this. They shipped it with a USB 2.0 only cable. You know, just to stick the knife in a little bit anyway. Those guys sure know how to make a joke.

realitista ,

I’m using this streaming service called Sonarr+plex. No ads so far.

realitista ,

Yeah if you buy good games they have a much better cost to entertainment ratios than having a bunch of streaming services do. It’s the games I end up not liking that ruin it.

realitista ,

Everyone says this, but I think the EU wants Britain back in enough to make some exceptions again. The way I look at it is that it doesn’t hurt to try.

realitista ,

Support get any more solid in Russia, so leaving Putin to do as he wants with no real consequence to his supporters is not the way out of this. The only way out of this is if Putin is kicked out by force, and the only way for that to happen is for people to get fed up with this. We are already living in the worst case that you portray. Russians think this is a war that was started by NATO.

realitista ,

What’s the black thing supposed to be, El Chupacabra?

realitista ,

I think if you made billions in tech, you always qualify. To some degree even more after you stop working and still can’t find time to do anything beneficial for the world.

realitista ,

What we really want is confirmation that the articles were written and researched by humans. But failing that tell us that AI was used so we can avoid it.

realitista ,

I always try to buy subscriptions with PayPal for this reason. Because buried in their UI you can go turn off the automatic payments to that payee. They usually cancel the subscription themselves if you stop paying them.

realitista ,

I’d rather artists get paid personally.

realitista ,

If royalties are paid, in most cases the artist will get some. How much depends on the contract he signed. I agree it’s not a great system. I’d like to see some direct licensing with the artist rather than what we have today, but something is still better than nothing.

realitista ,

How is there possibly this much market for this shit?

realitista ,

No doubt that’s the main thing but how are there enough people to watch all these channels of garbage?

USA Will Invest in High-Speed Train to Fight Climate Change (www.raillynews.com)

USA Will Invest in High-Speed Train to Fight Climate Change::The USA Will Invest in High-Speed Train to Fight Climate Change - US President Joe Biden announced in a speech on December 9, 2023 that they are carrying out the first high-speed train projects in US history. These projects are across America

realitista ,

Exactly.

Allowing Russia to start conquering Europe will just mean that the US will eventually have to fight a war against Europe, China, Iran, and North Korea. If we allow it to get that far I’m sure they will recruit more countries to their axis. And then the US will have a lot worse problems than lack of high speed rail.

I’ve been against every US military engagement in my 50 year life except this one.
