I think you’ve got part of it right from my recollection and experiences, but not quite the full thing. I think Obama’s success actually lead shitty people to lash out more, which brought trump to power, which emboldened those shitty people to stop hiding it and actually be proud and display it. I think the racism and shittiness was always there but people kept more of a lid on it. We just aren’t able to pretend it isn’t who we are more broadly anymore.

You might get differing answers due to the payment portion of the scenario, but here’s my 2 cents.

No, there’s nothing morally wrong here at any level to me. This is legally ok as far as the ages go, pretty much everywhere.

As long as there’s no power dynamic being abused, and both sides are consenting, go for it.

Oh thank you for this. I’ve seen the lockdown but I never really looked into what it does. Not that I am one to frequently be in a position where I’m concerned about being forced to thumb my phone, but it’s nice to know. Even being a middle aged white dude, one never really knows when you might be perceived as having looked at a jack boot the wrong way.

I mean, you said it yourself and I went and checked. On March 7, there was a us embassy alert to avoid large gatherings over the next 48 hours. Wouldn’t be much to check it out before executing and replan.

Do I have Burnout?

I really just need to talk about this to someone. I’m in college and I’ve always loved to learn, but now I don’t feel motivated do my school work or to study, but at the same time, when a test roles around and I don’t know how to answer the questions I get stressed and care about trying to do well. I’ve also always...

pezmaker , (edited )
@pezmaker@sh.itjust.works avatar

Edited to add: I Guess I didn’t really address the point specifically about not studying and struggling with the tests. That was me the entirety of my education, from the first grades I can remember all the way through my 8.5 years of college with 2 degrees. I just didn’t care, especially when the homework itself wasn’t graded. I’m not sure how to help on that point specifically, other than to say that you’re not alone, and I made it with similar issues.

It’s really difficult to stay motivated for as long as we’re in education. Do you know where your current standing is specifically in those two courses? Could you go to those two professors and voice what you’re facing and see if there’s any recommendations they can provide you?

It’s ok to fail. We don’t want that to be our normal state but it’s ok. It’s ok to be tired and struggling with motivation. A big part of learning is learning how to adapt to new situations and not just learning a particular topic. College is about both and then some.

What year are you in? Some of those early courses are meant to get you to the next step, and some (it’s been a while for me, maybe it isn’t this way anymore) seemed like they were intentionally designed to get people to quit. Weed out courses, so to say.

One of those weed out courses I went through was a huge attendance first level physics course that it seemed like nobody was doing well. About 1/4 dropped it over time to avoid the failing grade.

In the end, the professor did a flat full 2 grade “curve” for everyone that stuck it out. I don’t think his intent was to teach, I think it was to break those who would be willing to drop. I don’t like the concept of those courses, and I don’t even know if they exist anymore, but that’s also something to consider if the ones you’re failing in have that kind of feeling to them.

Keep trying, you’re not a failure just because you’ve failed at something, and sometimes this is part of life. You’ve got this.

I prefer its big sibling the Boulevardier.

  • 1.5 parts bourbon or rye
  • 1 part campari
  • 1 part sweet vermouth. I prefer Carpano Antica

Express an orange peel over and garnish with it

pezmaker ,
@pezmaker@sh.itjust.works avatar

I really like both the Jungle Bird and Artichoke Hold served on crushed ice as tiki drinks.

The Jungle Bird

  • 1.5 oz Jamaican rum
  • .75 oz Campari
  • 1 oz pineapple juice, preferably fresh
  • .5 oz lime juice
  • .5 oz Demerara syrup (1:1 sugar to water) Shake on ice and strain into crushed ice. Garnish: pineapple wedge and frond

Artichoke Hold:

  • 0.75 oz Jamaican Rum preferably Smith & Cross
  • 0.75 oz Cynar
  • 0.5 oz Elderflower Liqueur preferably St Germain
  • 0.75 oz Lime Juice
  • 0.5 oz Orgeat

Same as above, shake on ice and strain onto crushed ice.

If a chihuahua and great dane, through much effort, can create an offspring, why are human beings so offended by differing externals which are a product of circumstance not choice?

pezmaker ,
@pezmaker@sh.itjust.works avatar

And not just that, but it’s disingenuous. There’s no real interest here in an answer, it’s just intended to provoke interaction. Even all but the most overt, direct, owning it racists will claim racism is bad, regardless of their own actions and tendencies. Bad post is bad.

Edited to add: I feel like this community should be interpreted as having an implied “genuine” to it regarding the questions involved.

When would you let go?

Hey all! This may be kind of a dumb post as I know I need to make this decision myself, but I‘d sure love some advice. My oldest dog is 11, going on 12. The poor girl is diabetic, blind, has fatty lipomas, and mobility issues due to diabetes, breed, and age. This morning, we are fairly sure she had a stroke of some sort (the...

pezmaker ,
@pezmaker@sh.itjust.works avatar

I haven’t had the experience to see either of my MY dogs grow old to have to make this decision in the same way you are. Both at 8.5yrs and full of piss and vinegar ended up with cancers that were terminal. When I was looking into this for myself and struggling with the decision, I stumbled upon a vet’s blog that basically said she never once heard anyone say they did it too soon, and only ever heard regret about having waited too long. A family friend also gave me advice that it’s the last act of love and compassion we can give them. I am not judging you and say this with no intended shame at all, with only what you’ve said to go by, but I think it’s time, and maybe a little past time. At the end of the day it’s you and your well loved furry friend, not me and mine. It’s going to be hard no matter when, so if you can, try to have family with you and planned support for a few days. You’ll feel their presence for a very long time. My most recent was in April last year and that nugget is still around me in many ways, and getting blamed for my gas at both ends.

I went on a little unnecessarily. I’m sorry that this decision is upon you, but I’m glad you’ve been able to have and provide this companionship that has brought you here.

pezmaker ,
@pezmaker@sh.itjust.works avatar

She was a great dog, and thank you. I had someone come into my home and do it so she could be comfortable with her surroundings. She’s didn’t like the vet office much 😂. My first dog loved anyone and everything and going to the vet was a treat because of the people, so taking her in wasn’t a big thing for her. Just wanted to let you know about the in home option in case that seems like a good option for you.

I did flu, COVID, and Tdap this year at the same time since I can’t remember the last time I got a tetanus booster. Would make sense to have a combo shot. I’m not paranoid about vaccines, so if I’m getting one, I may as well get the other.

That triple shot combo was a motherfucker though for the next two days after.

I don’t think you’re going to end up getting any comments about successfully getting this to work, but hopefully I’m wrong and my comment ends up being irrelevant.

It doesn’t look like this is possible, by design from Samsung. We’re talking deep in the smart things app a check for if it’s a Samsung system and throwing an FU if the system isn’t.

Hate to tell you to spend more money, especially for something Samsung who dicked you in the first place, but you might be best served getting a second hand or refurb Samsung tablet to use for administering your tags.

I think this is what’s going on. I’m guessing the smallest partition is the boot partition, the 1gb might be the Linux swap, and the 100gb the Linux install.

pezmaker ,
@pezmaker@sh.itjust.works avatar

Or it could be swap, root, and home

“as it’s called” or “as they’re called”? It’s a bit wordier but I think conveys the meaning you’re going for without the negative connotation. I also think context should usually direct a reader/listener to or from any negative connotation for the “so called” usage. That said, it doesn’t hurt to be clearer.

pezmaker ,
@pezmaker@sh.itjust.works avatar

I had to double check that my boozed up vision didn’t loose a couple zeros. Fuck CEOs across the board, hell, “C-suite” in general, but 1.5m is about the lowest I’ve heard for a CEO.

That said, their decisions are generally the real reason to hate on the Cs. The gap in pay is the hate cherry on top.

Edit: I’m reminded that base salary is a pretty lame comparator after reading another comment. Total compensation package is worth taking about.

pezmaker ,
@pezmaker@sh.itjust.works avatar

Yeah, specifying “base salary” seems pretty disingenuous. It’s all about the add-ons.

pezmaker ,
@pezmaker@sh.itjust.works avatar

Yeah, now I’m old and, when it comes to relationships, mostly dead inside. Starting to think I may be aromantic and now pretty much consider “love” to be a more positively connotated word for codependency.

pezmaker ,
@pezmaker@sh.itjust.works avatar

In the context of my comment, it’s pretty clear what I was referring to as love. I’m not sure what part of the expressing of my current experience was so threatening to a bunch of people, but that wasn’t my intent.

pezmaker ,
@pezmaker@sh.itjust.works avatar

This is just my opinion, but I don’t think so. I love the thought and wish there was, though. I think no matter what you do, it’s still information about a potential user/customer and still tells someone looking at it about you. “Oh, we have information on about 4% of the population that wants to actively subvert our data analytics.”. Obviously that’s made up, I didn’t bother trying to even guess what a potentially realistic number might be.

Again in my opinion, the only way to provide no value to data analytics is to not be a data point, and good luck with that. Best I’ve been trying to do is disable targeted ads anywhere I can, reset my identifier ids regularly on things like android tv where I can, and try to blast cookies anywhere possible. I don’t know if it even makes a difference or just makes me feel better

pezmaker ,
@pezmaker@sh.itjust.works avatar

You basically described the other half of me right here. I waffle back and forth between your view and trying to do something about it. I go back to feeling it’s futile and doesn’t matter anyway, before getting fed up with targeted ads again. Wash, rinse, repeat.

pezmaker ,
@pezmaker@sh.itjust.works avatar

I’m hoping this is wonky “lost in translation” where they mean how to ask them out. Otherwise, yeesh.

pezmaker ,
@pezmaker@sh.itjust.works avatar

You magnificent bastard, thank you for bringing this into my life.

pezmaker ,
@pezmaker@sh.itjust.works avatar

This is word for word how I could describe my migration as well

pezmaker ,
@pezmaker@sh.itjust.works avatar

To go with this, never go back. Once it’s done, move on yourself. The memories will likely skew toward the positive as time goes on. That’s ok, bit remember you broke it off for a reason and let go.

pezmaker ,
@pezmaker@sh.itjust.works avatar

Even during the breaking up, try not to console them or make them feel better. I don’t mean be a jackass. Other comments have covered the overall approach very well already. I just mean trying to help them feel better about it is really just for you. They’re going to and are allowed to process it however they’re going to, and you give up a right to try to be a part of their healing when you break it off.

Be kind during, give them space if you actually want to remain friends after, and let them process and heal how they will.

As I’ve gotten older I’ve actually preferred to be broken up with over being the one breaking it off. It’s hard to do that to someone you care about but isn’t a good fit for whatever reason. When it’s broken off with me I can say so be it and start moving on and not have to hurt another person in the process.

If you like spicy things, look into a jerk paste for pork or chicken.

Habaneros, green onions, lime, ground nutmeg, shit load of fresh thyme. Plenty of salt. Blend, marinate, cook
