Try OrganicMaps. It’s the best OpenStreetMaps backed app I’ve ever used, and I’ve tried almost all of them for 10 years now.

Given this reaction, he seems to be doing something which is working.

Yes, because the frequency of the grid is also a trigger for shutting off the inverter. Inverters generate a frequency which indicates a “non healthy grid” that trigger the shutoff of connected inverters.

luckystarr ,

Physical shutoff via relays is required by the standard. We’ve just been through a scandal where a manufacturer skimped out on putting them in and had to recall the devices.

Maccaroni and cheese were really meant to be Käsespätzle but for some reason didn’t.

At this stage it’s all hot air. Nobody has even started talking about how to finance it and the defense minister isn’t even 100% sure he will get his requested additional funds for the next cycle. When somebody asked him about the topic he replied that he isn’t categorically against it but he would have to finance (and restructure, as the necessary infrastructure for it has been degraded/scrapped) more important topics first.

They are really well designed too. They lock into place when flipped 180 degrees (drinking mode) and don’t interfere at all while drinking.

So, is it basically something like overpaneling in PV systems, where the total amount of energy which could theoretic be harvested through the panels (surface area times efficiency) is higher than the maximum possible energy throughout of the inverter? This leads to a steady energy throughout which is capped by the inverter, providing a “buffer” for shaded conditions, morning, evening, etc.

And then he morbed all over them!

luckystarr ,

Star Trek 10 - First Contact is also pretty solid.

You’re right. It was the eighth movie. My bad. I didn’t even remember Nemesis. It kinda is the Star Trek V but for TNG.

German civil servants demand ‘immediate’ end to Israeli arms supplies (www.aljazeera.com)

According to the organisers of the five-page statement, around 600 civil servants have voiced support for the initiative, which has slowly been gathering traction for months through professional networks and word-of-mouth across a range of ministries....

Which will result in only those remaining which are complicit. This is clearly a negative outcome. 1. For the people resigning, as resigning didn’t advance their cause, but made the situation worse. 2. For society, because it made the institution less trustworthy.

luckystarr ,

Not surprising in a kleptocracy thogh.

luckystarr ,

It does that for some decades already. The trick for dual booting was always to install Linux second. :/

luckystarr ,

Well, as a consolation there is Rottenegg in Germany. Not nearly as catchy though.

What is a gender neutral replacement for man, guys, buddy, etc?

So I’ve realized that in conversations I’ll use traditional terms for men as general terms for all genders, both singularly and for groups. I always mean it well, but I’ve been thinking that it’s not as inclusive to women/trans people....

In the general public I don’t think it’s pure xenophobia, but in large parts a fear of not being able to communicate. The behavior they expose then is almost indistinguishable from xenophobia and for the receiving person in no way better, though when a foreign looking person is able to communicate, most hesitations will fall away.

I know that this is obviously not applicable to 100% of the population, but so is the other belief. There are obviously also die-hard foreigners hating nationalists, as in every country.

Whats your favorite Star Trek season?

Not to be confused with favorite series. I think my favorite season is ENT sesson 4, which is funny because the series overall is def on the weaker end of the spectrum, and i dont think any particular episode of the fourth season is Star Treks very best, its just the season that has more good than bad episodes of any season of...

Just rewatched “The Visitor”. Can’t believe I forgot about that one. I’m definitely not crying right now, no no. Thank you.

Linux 6.6 To Better Protect Against The Illicit Behavior Of NVIDIA's Proprietary Driver (www.phoronix.com)

Luis Chamberlain sent out the modules changes today for the Linux 6.6 merge window. Most notable with the modules update is a change that better builds up the defenses against NVIDIA’s proprietary kernel driver from using GPL-only symbols. Or in other words, bits that only true open-source drivers should be utilizing and not...

They don’t want you to see the “if benchmark_xyz { do less work }” blocks of code.

The way I perceive PRQL is somewhat like SQLAlchemy-Core (the SQL expression layer, not the ORM). Almost a 1:1 mapping to SQL but softening the rough edges in SQL when constructing more complex queries dynamically, in particular: no function calls, no real variables, only string concatenation. While SQLAlchemy-Core lets you even extract sub-queries into variables, I don’t know about how powerful PRQL is in this regard.

From what I see from the docs I’m rather hopeful though.

luckystarr ,

I don’t understand. Don’t they like money? I like money!

In order to compete in user experience we need to up our game. We need to set up communities which collect, categorize and funnel user requests upstream. These features should be focused on:

  • reducing frictions like unclear UI, broken links, etc.
  • improving usability of the various web frontends (the one from Lemmy, kbin, etc.)
  • collecting bug reports and making sure they will be fixed

This is meant to be a proxy between average users and tech enthusiasts who know how to do pull requests or open GitHub issues. Moderators of these communities would do it for them. This would enable us to gain visibility in the needs of the users.

This is only a part of what needs to be done, but I think this can be done quickly.

Corporate fuckups come in waves. We will have to wait for the next Twitter/Reddit/Threads/etc. protest wave and see.

Why does rif still work for me? Anyone know what's going on? I got the 429 this morning but now it's working exactly as before.

luckystarr ,

It will probably work until your temporary credentials time out, the old API will be shut off or you try to re-login.

Logging out will shut it off for good. You probably won't be able to log in again then.

luckystarr ,

Some other critter would evolve to take their niche. Not sure how long that would take though, but eventually there would be other insects which will annoy you.

Nothing lasts longer than a crudely thought out band aid solution to a not fully understood problem.
