"Super pigs" — called the "most invasive animal on the planet" — threaten to invade northern U.S. (www.cbsnews.com)

An exploding population of hard-to-eradicate “super pigs” in Canada is threatening to spill south of the border, and northern states like Minnesota, North Dakota and Montana are taking steps to stop the invasion....

@khannie@lemmy.world avatar

Unfortunately they’ll still see population growth…

That means 65% or more of a wild pig population could be killed every year and it will still increase, Brook said. Hunting just makes the problem worse, he said. The success rate for hunters is only about 2% to 3% and several states have banned hunting because it makes the pigs more wary and nocturnal — tougher to track down and eradicate.

In every one of those pictures you can see it’s opportunistic scumbags. No surprise it was a foot locker that was looted.

Alabama inmate asks judge to block first nitrogen gas execution (apnews.com)

Attorneys for Kenneth Eugene Smith, 58, filed an amended lawsuit challenging the proposed new execution method as a potential violation of the Constitution’s ban on cruel and unusual punishment. They asked a federal judge to issue a preliminary injunction to block the execution from going forward next year....

I think you’re thinking of carbon monoxide. Carbon dioxide buildup in your lungs would be most unpleasant.

I guess that could work too though but it’s a dangerous gas where nitrogen isn’t.

I watched TNG through fully with my daughter when she was 12, one episode most nights. She’s nearly 17 now and absolutely shocked that I can send her banger Star Trek memes daily.

LOVE this place and all the posters. Thank you!

Definitely happens in Ireland. Anywhere populations are small you’re going to face teachers potentially having to teach their own kids at some point.

Yeah it really is very impressive.

I’m having good everyday success with what seem like trivial things but honestly have been game changers for me.

My favourite so far is that I got it to make a nutritionally complete meal plan for a week for our family, turn it into a shopping list then order it by area of the supermarket.

That last bit was the real win. It also turned out to be very cheap by comparison to our normal shop.

I’m loving the AI revolution so far. Stuff like this is a fun way to show just how far it can go.

I'm currently downloading a show that is on a service to which I subscribe

I have a Galaxy Tab S7 and for a trip to Spain I downloaded some stuff to watch on the flight. When I got on the plane none of the stuff downloaded on Disney+ would play. Maybe an issue with downloading to the SD card? I don’t know, but regardless Disney offers SD card as a download destination so they should make sure it is...

Anyway long story short, a rewatch is highly recommended.

Lee then approached Britannica, the undisputed leader in the encyclopedia market, who’d recently...

Cool list. Thanks for posting. I have (and regularly use):

Smart Audiobook Player - (pro version is an upgrade inside the app)

Easy eyes pro - The built in android nighttime feature is what I mostly use now, but I will put this on when I’m in bed for more darkness

    Nova launcher

Keepass2Android - Just did a donation here. Superb password manager app.

I have other services apps like Audible, VPN etc. but I don’t think they really fit the bill here.

    khannie ,
    @khannie@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah it’s great and well worth the upgrade.

Hmmm. Hard to get over that dislike of an interface. I have found one plugin killed Firefox performance for me but I’m generally happy with the layout so haven’t messed with it.

On how important it is: I used Chromium for a while but went back to Firefox because I read someone somewhere say “If you don’t use Firefox, there eventually wont be a Firefox to use” and that was enough for me to switch back.

If you’re donating to Mozilla though, I guess they’re more than happy with that even if you’re not using the product.

Egypt’s prime minister on Tuesday said his country was ready to “sacrifice millions of lives” for the Sinai peninsula in an apparent reference to reports of Israel’s intelligence ministry’s wartime draft proposal to transfer the Gaza Strip’s 2.3 million people to the region.

“Egypt will never allow anything to be imposed on it,” Mostafa Madbouly said, adding regional issues would not be solved at the country’s “expense.”

Madbouly’s comments came in a speech during his visit to al-Arish in northern Sinai.

He was accompanied by hundreds of government officials and public figures.

Reports of the Israeli proposal have drawn condemnation from the Palestinians and worsened tensions with Cairo.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office, however, downplayed the paper as a hypothetical exercise.

But its conclusions deepened long-standing Egyptian fears that Israel wants to make Gaza into Egypt’s problem, and revived for Palestinians memories of their greatest trauma — the uprooting of hundreds of thousands of people who fled or were forced from their homes during the fighting surrounding Israel’s creation in 1948.

So far more than 8,300 Palestinians, the vast majority of them civilians, have been killed since Israel went to war against Hamas after its October 7 attack.

The document is dated October 13, six days after Hamas militants killed more than 1,400 people in southern Israel and took over 240 hostages in an attack that provoked a devastating Israeli war in Gaza.

It was first published by Sicha Mekomit, a local news site.

The intelligence ministry - a junior ministry - conducts research but does not set policy.

Sorry I can’t help with the dating advice. I’m old as fuck and married forever and the modern dating scene seems weird to me.

For what it’s worth, my son met a lovely girl while travelling. He also met lots of cool people through local online groups in the areas he was traveling to. Not sure if that’s useful at all.

I’ll answer because I use it all the time…

It’s the default browser on my phone so all link clicks in apps (like the one I’m using now) get a fresh, zero cookie session which reduces tracking. I read or watch, hit back, session and cookies destroyed, off I go on my merry way.

If I want to open a link on a site that I want to be logged in on then I long press and open it in normal Firefox.

I do have ad blockers on my router too though.

I also went to see this in the cinema a few times as a kid and loved it. I happened to rewatch it a few weeks ago as I hadn’t seen it since.

Flash Gordon is the one I’ve seen most in the cinema. I was absolutely captivated by it as a kid. It must have had a decent run in the cinema as I was very young when it was released.

Related story - My folks were picking someone up at the airport around that time. After they met they went for a drink in the airport bar right next to arrivals and I absolutely traumatised every single patron by playing the theme tune by Queen on repeat with my pocket money until it ran out.

edit: To be clear, the damage was done before my folks realised what was going on. Money. Select. Money. Select. They were quite embarrassed.
