I don’t know your setupand I’m not networking guru, but perhaps you could bridge your wireguard connection with your physical network.

Doing that would mean that whomever you share the wireguard connection with would be able to access your entire network, such as your router.

That could be a bad thing if you have not changed your devices default login credentials.

grayaytrox ,

Sorry, I wasn’t clear enough before. My bad. Your friend needs to do the bridging, or do like you said, rent a vps, put wireguard on it and have your friend connect to the vps. I’ve never done it, however I’ve seen people host other services that way when they are stuck behind a CGNAT.

Help me find this song

Hello, I’ve been looking for a song that I used to listen to for the past couple months. It was a rap song with I believe a fat Chicano man in front of a pyramid with a lowrider in front of it (I’m describing the album cover). Had a heart beep style beat like ‘bum bum - bum bum bum - bum bum bum - beep’ it was cool as...

I asked chat gpt. This is what it had to say. >It sounds like you’re describing “Still D.R.E.” by Dr. Dre featuring Snoop Dogg. The album cover features Dr. Dre in front of a pyramid with a lowrider in the foreground, and the beat has the characteristic “bum bum - bum bum bum - bum bum bum - beep” pattern you mentioned. The music video also includes scenes with lowriders. Does that sound like the song you’ve been looking for?>

What is easiest solution to automatically resolve missing mounts due to e.g. a power outage?

I’ve got a QNAP NAS and two Linux servers. Whenever the power goes down, the UPS kicks in and shut downs the NAS and the Linux servers, all good. The servers + NAS are automatically started when the power comes back on line using WOL. All good....

grayaytrox ,

It’s been a while since I set it up, but from memory my mount point was set to be owned by root and immutable. That stopped any of my docker containers making new files and folders if the mounted drive or network location was not mounted or unavailable.

Jayjo , to selfhosted

@selfhosted Have a commerical @wireguard vpn on my server. The problem i have is that if i use a docker, it does use the vpn interface with iptables, but if that goes down, the docker still goes through without the vpn interface. I have looked at iptables, but docker makes it own, and bit of a minefield. Any ideas? Thanks

It depends on where you are. In my county, the most popular trackers are blocked.

Devices getting router IP as DNS

Hello all! I think I’m having a bit of trouble with my home network. It appears that all of my devices are using my Pi-hole DNS because I can see them all listed in the UI. But, when I check the devices, I can see both the Pi-hole IP address and the router’s. Pi-hole is listed first, so I’m assuming everything is using...

grayaytrox ,

Your router is the gateway to the internet. I could be wrong here, but this is why your devices can see it. They need to know where they can access the internet.

grayaytrox ,

So gateway refers to where to find the DHCP server?

organizing incoming files (noob question)

I am sure I am just missing something simple… I have prowlarr -> sonarr/radarr -> qbittorrent -> jellyfin I created three directories. /jelly/video /sonarr /radarr. I configured sonarr and radar to use their respective directories. And I configured qbittorrent to use /jelly/video as the default download dir....

grayaytrox ,

Mine is a little more complicated, but it gives me piece of mind and the ability to see what each program is doing, and to manually sort files if sonarr/radarr stop working for whatever reason

My folder structure is

  • downloads
    • incomplete
    • complete
      • tv
      • movies
  • video
    • tv
    • movies

Each component of my stack is isolated using docker and can only acess what it needs to. Sonarr, Radarr and qbittorrent are configured to use labels to keep the downloads directory sorted.

I can post my docker-compose.yml file if you want to have a look.

grayaytrox ,

I am keeping 1 copy, with a hardlink to the other. It gets removed from qBittorrent once it has finished seeding

grayaytrox ,

Yes, however Windows offers hardlinks too, you just can’t span them across drives with either os

The YTS release group shut down in 2015. You are looking at a copy cat.

Appliances with an off light.

In the last few years I have purchased a pressure cooker and an air fryer. They both waste electricity by having an off light. Furthermore they act like red nightlights and my kitchen has an eerie red glow at night. What is the actual purpose for off lights besides to waste electricity?

grayaytrox ,

That makes no sense to me. Why not have an on light instead? If the light is on, and the device is operating as expected, that’s good. If the light is off then it has no power or it’s broken. If the light is on and nothing is happening, it’s broken.

If the light is going to be annoying when the device is on, then turn it off after a few seconds.

grayaytrox ,

Mine is set to time out at 5 minutes. I have been using it for years however and I’m not sure if I have changed it. You can find it under alarm when you go into the settings
