why do people care for Shrek? Or Walter White? Or Antigone?

The concept of caring for fictional narratives is ages old.

funkless_eck ,

it’s actually already a sales term in ABM - you have the decision maker, blocker, influencer, end user/stakeholder etc

the term has been around longer than the internet

funkless_eck ,

you can also DM me. Lead gen manager for a $5MM software company, 11 years experience digital marketing.

not everybody = nobody

id wager the average user could not read the terms they’ve agreed to in a human lifespan

Rudy Guliani Blows Past the $43,000 Budget He Committed to in Bankruptcy Proceedings (www.nytimes.com)

That amount would cover, among other expenses, $5,000 in alimony payments to his ex-wife Judith Giuliani, $1,050 for food and housekeeping supplies and $425 for “personal care products and services.” He was also obliged to cover $13,500 in monthly nursing-home expenses for his former mother-in-law; she died in March....

funkless_eck ,

eating anything in a Cafe is $10 though.

This is patently false and easily disprovable with a cursory google. Please do not spread misinformation.

buddy, if scholars past and present piled opprobrium on Voltaire for doubting it’s authenticity, what hope do you have?

Not only does this link and the other link youve been given provide many historical sources and discussions, but they also then lead to other sources.

The burden of proof lies with you invalidating hundreds of sources over thousands of years. Don’t act like I’m the one with a crackpot theory.

Let’s compare like for like - what link with a reasonable amount of scholastic cachet can you provide to back up your theory?

funkless_eck ,

the smell test is irrelevant. This is a conversation about whether the scientific / historian community is at a concensus on the historical existence of the person in question.

really, mine and your individual opinions are also irrelevant, because even if both you and I never existed- the historical, academic consensus suggests the guy lived.

I’m happy to be the bad guy in that conversation because it’s really not me thats on trial here - it’s your personal faith/belief, that’s as vulnerable to subjectivity as a belief in the spritual Christian (or Hindu, Muslim, Jewish, etc) deity’s existence.

I am not commenting on whether I believe Jesus was a deity, nor am I commented on whether I personally believe there was a real Jesus as political and historical figure at the start of the Common Era - I am saying that to say definitively he did not exist is a faith/belief based assertion, and it’s misinformation to claim it as a fact, it is a belief/opinion that flies in the face of established, peer-reviewed consensus.

funkless_eck ,

Well, again, I ask you - where’s your sources? Me and another guy provided a source that also contained sources. I would genuinely like to read the first-party or academic sources for your argument for my own education.

funkless_eck ,

this conversation is split into so many parts im just trying to chase down this one key point: it’s not enough to say “well I don’t believe them” - I want to be proved wrong here, for my own education. But I want to be proved wrong - with proof. Not just a throwaway comment of “they have not met my (undefined, and unexplained) threshold of proof”

What do you have to show that Jesus didnt exist as a real human? That isn’t your own belief or thought process as your primary source?

funkless_eck ,

Robin Hood, William Tell, Homer, John Henry, King Arthur, Pope Joan and Mulan beg to disagree.

Or rather, they would if they existed. All of which are easily Googlable

funkless_eck ,

that the terms weren’t clearly defined in the original comment is not my fault, and equally you could’ve said that you don’t believe in the divinity of Jesus - which is a very fair statement, but note how it self-defines belief and separates it from categorical fact.

Too much sophistry and you can prove that Santa Claus exists and Joe Biden doesn’t.

You did not at any point specify you were talking about the divinity of Jesus, you just said he didn’t exist- which the simplest response is “ok so who’s the guy with long hair on a cross in every church then?” - obviously in many definitions of “exists” - he exists, including that it is generally accepted that he lived as a real person.

You’re also addressing me as if I’m saying Jesus was a diety. I am not.

“Marketing” is just the publically exposed arm of a go to market strategy. It will never die as long as money exchanges hands for goods and services.

The methods and language change, and sometimes some of the methods of delivery, but regardless of how a market operates - it will always have a function that bridges the product and consumer, provided there’s a plurality of both.

A W-shaped, multi touch funnel to nuture MQLs into a RFQ is just more sophisticated version of yelling “Fresshhhh Fishhhh” really loud as the boat comes in.

I played games before there were consoles. I am fucking dust, man.

To whom it may concern, you should be aware that at this current point in history, certain people are attempting to correct each and every grammatical mistake that has been made in communications they find that have been posted to the world wide web.

there are a lot of studies in humor. There’s things like commedia dell’Arte, or Ecole Gaulier, The Seven Causes of Laughter, there’s hundreds of books on improv, joke writing, sitcom writing, stand up.

I’ve made a few comments around Lemmy diving into some of the theory behind it, but people get kinda tetchy when you get technical about it.

funkless_eck ,

obligatory its a Unix system, I know this

funkless_eck ,

with the addition that most languages - especially romance languages - have irregular verbs and constructions.

e.g. in french you say “I have 30 years” to say you are 30 years old. in English you say “I am 30” to say you are 30 years old. It makes no sense to say you are the number 30 or you have 30 years. But no one really thinks about it.

funkless_eck ,

you laugh until your STEM-only software engineer tries to write marketing copy, he circumnavigated the marketing department and sent the ads at a conference straight to the contact without getting it approved.

I can’t post the text as it’ll dox me but here’s an approximation, about running, but instead imagine it’s a software product

RUNNING

or exercise

^just ^running ^ability ^made ^better

funkless_eck ,

yeah but we all, unfortunately, need jobs, and jobs are at companies, and companies make money from sales, sales happen on a market, and you need marketing so people know it exists.

I’d happily abolish the whole stack for a free house, garden, entertainment and groceries for life.

funkless_eck ,

that is precisely what SERP and sales prospecting marketing is. Except paid SERP placement and plaintext email displayed in a browser or email client rather than a text editor.

navigated around, to mean avoid, definition 2 here: www.merriam-webster.com/…/circumnavigate

funkless_eck ,

just agree to disagree I guess? I considered circumvent which is similar, but really there’s little etymological or metaphorical difference except personal preference

but also it might be an EN-UK vs EN-US thing (I grew up in England)

funkless_eck ,

it’s not just one thing though. For a non technical user, it’s nerve-wracking to worry that if you screw up the install, or download the wrong package, or configure the YAML wrong, or open the wrong port, or there’s a port conflict, or you forgot to update the software… now you’re potentially unprotected (even if that’s not the case - many will still worry).

Not to mention even if you - as I did - had to skill up to understand it, three months passes and you’re terrified to touch it because you’ve forgotten all the stuff you learned to set it up.

Same as how the majority of people don’t even change their own oil on their cars - even though it’s fairly easy.

funkless_eck ,

what are the colors? I’m guessing thats not visible spectrum

Actors have lives too. It’s likely they booked a better gig or were unavailable for other commitments, or the company didn’t want to put up a fair pay to bring them back.

funkless_eck ,

yeah I’m saying it’s likely he had another gig or the pay wasn’t right, they cheaped out then realized their mistake.

funkless_eck ,

I was tempted to deep dive and find exactly the timeline but then I realized I should actually not do that as that would be a pointless exercise.

he hustled 24/7 and managed to make the same amount of money as an entry level recent graduate dental hygienist, RN or factory machine operator (60k in 10 months)

and we can assume from the meetings he got with big businesses that he was trading on his prior reputation rather than going incognito.

funkless_eck ,

in context of “people who can’t make a million dollars in 12 months are just lazy” it’s pretty funny

is there a legal way to consume alcohol bought at a store, outside of a home, hotel room, etc.?

I’m thinking in the U.S. and Canada. For example, if you’re on vacation, you’ve checked out of your hotel room and have several hours until your flight, and you have some cans of beer left over. I know you could sneakily drink them in a park or something, but I’m just curious if there’s any way to do it that’s legal.
