I’ve heard many say they don’t like what he has done but somehow he is still the best thing ever in spite of that.

Maybe it ties into the Christian redemption thing.

dan1101 ,

This gives me hope that all gamers won’t just roll over and take it. But Capcom could react in different ways, they could do better or they could just quit releasing games on Steam. Wonder if they have already asked if Steam could disable reviews for them?

dan1101 ,

I don’t even like upscaling and frame generation, feels fake to me. Show me the real graphics as the game artists made them.

dan1101 ,

Currently playing Redfall coop on Gamepass and am enjoying it. Level design is beautiful and fighting mercs and vampires is good fun. It’s set in a cozy New England seaside town that was taken over by vampires.

dan1101 ,

We’ve seen weird glitches a few times but not that often. The game isn’t deep at all, it’s just atmosphere and mild to mid fighting action. Some of the special powers are neat, like the teleporter or the shock trident.

dan1101 ,

Yes, Democrats allow way too much Republican nonsense to happen without challenging it. Maybe they assume citizens will realize how asinine it is but that isn’t working.

dan1101 ,

Good point, also there are more PC games and they are usually cheaper.

dan1101 ,

And the “Do you want to buy a monkey?” conversation in NOLF.

dan1101 ,

Neural networks have learned to play video games so maybe a neural network in a robot body could learn to act human. If it didn’t harm itself or others, that’s the tricky part.

dan1101 ,

I think many people would rather complain than install ad blockers. One thing I do hate now is Prime Video, it now has ads even for Prime members. It’s inconsistent though. Tonight I tried to start watching Gev V again and it wanted to show 1:30 worth of ads, I kept going back and pressing play again but best I got was like 56 seconds. I said screw it, I could stand 56 seconds but it’s the principle.

Also the nuclear waste is a big problem, it will be around for thousands of years. We have a nuclear plant near us and none of the waste has ever left the site, it just keeps getting added to big casks on a concrete slab outdoors and is a big potential vulnerability.

What lunches do you eat on a weekly basis?

I’m looking for easy and cheap options for lunches on weekdays. I mostly eat deli sandwiches and hot dogs right now and I always feel like shit after eating them. I think I need something healthier but I don’t have time over my lunch hour to cook anything too fancy. What do you all do for reliable healthy easy lunches?

dan1101 ,

I eat Subway for lunch usually, we have a decent local one and I know the owner. Not necessarily because all the food is delicious, but it gets me to eat veggies like banana peppers and olives that I wouldn’t normally eat. One footling will make 2 lunches for me.

Using AI to spot edible mushrooms could kill you | AI tools are good for some things, but don’t trust your health to apps that make frequent mistakes (wapo.st)

In particular, know how to identify the common and deadly species (eg: much of the genus Amanita) yourself, and get multiple trustworthy field guides for your part of the world.

dan1101 ,

Some day someone is going to hook up AI to something important like traffic lights, people will die, and it will be revealed that AI was the reason.

Are we all fucked?

I’m worried for the world. All I’ve been thinking about is WW3 and this shit makes me want to vomit. I can’t even smoke weed anymore without having a near panic attack. I feel unmotivated. I wake up and immediately just want to go back to bed. I’m not trying to spread fear but the Doomsday clock is 90 seconds till...

dan1101 ,

We are probably fucked sooner or later and I feel terrible for what family and friends and good people will go through. But also I think Earth will bounce back and would be better off without humans. Only issue is I don’t think humans will be eradicated.

Otherwise just try to vote for the best choices and try not to follow the news too much, it’s mostly negative because that sells.

dan1101 ,

I checked out of the news during the Trump presidency, it was just constant crazy negativity. I feel much better for it. Anything important enough I hear about somewhere, and I vote responsibly and act responsively.

dan1101 ,

It’s pretty easy to figure out their platforms from the major news that filters through.

dan1101 ,

Gallon ziplock freezer bags save a lot of freezer food for me.

dan1101 ,

All you need is a hammer and duct tape.

dan1101 ,

I’d like to play RimWorld in a big seamless Minecraft world.

dan1101 ,

Yeah with a name like that they’re going to be judged more harshly.

Let’s not make the same mistakes with AI that we made with social media (www.technologyreview.com)

From the article: “In particular, five fundamental attributes of social media have harmed society. AI also has those attributes. Note that they are not intrinsically evil. They are all double-edged swords, with the potential to do either good or ill. The danger comes from who wields the sword, and in what direction it is...

dan1101 ,

I saw an IBM commercial that depicted an AI personal assistant informing a user that their credit card had been used for a fraudulent charge. It asked the user if a particular charge was legit and they said no. Then the AI informed the user that the transaction had been canceled and a new card had been issued.

I have a couple problems with this. First, what if the AI was hallucinating parts of this interaction? Secondly, at some point the user’s AI will be interfacing with the bank’s AI, then we will effectively be subservient to a bunch of algorithms automatically running the world and we will basically be children with our AI parents taking care of us.

dan1101 ,

Maybe it’s tax and insurance increases. That’s what I’m seeing.

dan1101 ,

Yeah I ran tab groups for years too. I finally quit because I just had too many things open but it was definitely handy.

dan1101 ,

I’m gonna buy one for $5 5 times. Beating the system score one for the little guy.

dan1101 ,

If I buy an EV I would like it to do 400 miles, but I don’t need 0-60 in 3 seconds.

dan1101 ,

They could come up with some sort of plan to transition them to other jobs like public works or other state-operated services. At least there would be a lawful path for the honest people to follow.

dan1101 ,

I don’t know,.clerks have called the cops over $2 paper bills.

dan1101 ,

The website shows lots of items to me even though I’m in the USA.

Maybe the app’s “Nearby” filtering is too strict, or the VPN strips out something important from your request that the app wants.

dan1101 ,

I’ve never understood why people believed neurotoxins that killed bugs wouldn’t also harm other creatures. We all have neurons. I’ve never allowed pesticides in my home.

dan1101 ,

Yeah well let’s quit making 7000 pound consumer vehicles. Small EVs would be more efficient and better for the environment because they need less materials to build and and less energy to recharge.

dan1101 ,

Lighter vehicles should be able to have the same range as larger ones, just have to find the right battery/weight/range combination.

dan1101 ,

Also how would they prove the owner even saw the notice they supposedly agreed to? This is probably them testing the waters for something worse.

dan1101 ,

Good on her for filing and winning against that assault on her home.

During all that mess did anyone investigate the adjoining properties in a non-SWAT way? Because if the iPhone pinged there it was likely nearby.

dan1101 ,

Who better to compile a binary than the person that wrote the code?

dan1101 ,

The court rulings better cover every way Apple could avoid compliance.

dan1101 ,

I’d rather have $20 per hour that a doctor keeps me waiting.

dan1101 ,

Yes but still won’t keep late payments from potentially wrecking your credit.

dan1101 ,

It’s incredible how fragile and sensitive dictators are.

dan1101 ,

My friends daughters didn’t want their mom on Facebook so for years they told her Facebook charged a monthly fee.

dan1101 ,

Maybe we should rent our video cards for $25 per month. You get 2,000,000 frames rendered per month and anything beyond that puts you in a pro gamer tier for more money.

dan1101 ,

I think realtime LLM in games will happen, and I like this approach of having it run locally. Not sure why you got the port warning though.

dan1101 ,

They’re not even supposed to talk to their family about classified information, why do they think it’s ok on dating sites? There will just be more classes that 95% of the attendees will roll their eyes at the waste of time, but that vulnerable 5% may learn from. “Ohhh, I shouldn’t talk about this with my wife but I ALSO shouldn’t talk about it to sexy strangers on dating sites either? I did not realize that!”

dan1101 ,

People would do it. Join us, it’s bliss!

dan1101 ,

That’s what I’m hoping for fingers crossed.
