Wow 500 people out of work because probably a very few of them couldn’t keep things clean.

dan1101 ,

Also the updates situation has caused many to dislike Windows.

Linux is a perfectly viable OS at this point, it’s not just for tech geeks. I did have a problem with my USB Wi-Fi adapter during the install but other than that everything was just as smooth and less creepy than Microsoft.

dan1101 ,

Yes that is what I thought too. Google is still good for looking up movies and games and such, but for tech stuff and shopping it has noticably declined.

dan1101 ,

And no drinking out of glass containers!

dan1101 ,

If you want to live in a big ditch go ahead.

dan1101 ,

You need someone who is low maintenance like yourself. Someone who doesn’t need constant validation from you to feel complete. Or a friend with benefits. Both exist but can be tricky to find.

dan1101 ,

I was with someone who was upset when I left her alone. She finally divorced me.

dan1101 ,

You can block all the porn games, I can’t remember the last time I saw one. Add games you’re interested in to your wishlist and you will see more games like that when you open Steam.

US border patrol is responsible for safety of children in migrant camps, judge says (www.theguardian.com)

“This is a tremendous victory for children at open air detention sites, but it remains a tragedy that a court had to direct the government to do what basic human decency and the law clearly require,” Neha Desai, senior director of immigration at the National Center for Youth Law, said in a statement.

dan1101 ,

Yes it is a tragedy this is happening, had to go to court, and these days there is doubt on how a court will rule on human decency.

dan1101 ,

Also I believe the East has more bedrock so earthquakes are felt more strongly.

A German state is ditching Windows and Microsoft Office for Linux and LibreOffice on the 30,000 PCs it uses for local government functions (www.theregister.com)

Schleswig-Holstein, Germany’s most northern state, is starting its switch from Microsoft Office to LibreOffice, and is planning to move from Windows to Linux on the 30,000 PCs it uses for local government functions....

dan1101 ,

Yeah for the simple stuff LibreOffice will be just fine but for anything complex like mail merges and such it’s probably going to require a lot of work re-doing things.

dan1101 ,

Yeah I’ve seen family and friends struggle with airdrop, there are always 1 or 2 it doesn’t work for so they might as well be Android.

dan1101 ,

You’ve got a great UI Roku, but now stop being evil.

dan1101 ,

An old Kia Optima. It wasn’t really horrible but it was so incredibly bland and boring in every measure.

dan1101 ,

Control freak Apple throwing their customers another small scrap.

dan1101 OP ,

I think the title is accurate to what the article says. Obviously GTA V and Fortnite have changed in 6 years, but they are the same basic game engine and same basic game as 6 years ago. They haven’t released anything they want to call GTA 6 or Fortnite 2.

dan1101 ,

So you mean the people shouting the loudest about election fraud are the same people committing the election fraud??

dan1101 ,

I really like Farenheit system for temperatures. 0 is really cold and 100 is really hot, but both survivable. It’s a human-centric system.

0C is the temperature that water freezes, which is good but temperatures more often go negative with that system. 100C is boiling so you’d be dead.

dan1101 ,

Too risky having it hanging out like that. It could get caught on a doorway or squished against someone on a busy metro.

Only safe way to transport eggs on your person is up the butt.

dan1101 ,

That doesn’t seem like a good reason to stop deforestation efforts.

dan1101 ,

Which is a good thing, just the way it’s harvested is the bad thing. Otherwise they will just figure out how to make it from plastic. Surprised that isn’t already a thing.

Billionaires who once disavowed Trump are coming crawling back (which might have something to do with Biden vowing to raise their taxes) (www.vanityfair.com)

Once upon a time, some überwealthy individuals who’d previously supported Donald Trump declared that they were done with the 45th president of the United States. After January 6, 2021, billionaire GOP donor Nelson Peltz called the insurrection a “stain on America” and publicly apologized for voting for Trump in 2020. Real...

Except for those that still believe in trickle-down.

Her level of popularity is annoying but how is she goofy? She seems reasonably classy and not too much of a diva.

dan1101 ,

Small town. Less traffic, crime, pollution, expense. More sense of community.

dan1101 ,

Clean the worst of it and let the rest be. I try to do a more thorough cleaning spring and fall.

dan1101 , (edited )

Yeah I can even feel dust on the floors with my bare feet, tells me when it’s time to vacuum.

dan1101 ,

Yes, drive through West Virginia and you’ll see seams of coal in the parts of the mountains they cut for highways.

dan1101 , (edited )

Wonder what will happen first, organizations will figure out they can’t feed LLM output directly to end users as facts or products, or LLMs will become good enough to not have the incorrect or nonsense answer problem.

dan1101 ,

Can they come up with a game idea themselves and make it?

dan1101 ,

I don’t like how flying is so expensive and while statistically much safer than driving, you have no control over your own fate when in a flying aluminum cylinder tens of thousands of feet in the air.

dan1101 ,

No, but you have more control. You have control over the condition and maintenance of your own vehicle, and you have a chance to defensively avoid collisions. Like the intersection example, I always try to look both ways at an intersection even when my light is green. If I get on a plane where the pilot is drunk or suicidal and the maintenance was not done to spec, I have no control over that.

dan1101 ,

Conservatives used to be halfway reasonable, or at least their talking points were. Now too many have gone unapologetically extreme.

dan1101 ,

You can grow without being hostile and negative. Start your own studios, make innovative games, compete with quality not acquisitions.

dan1101 ,

And there are so many scam ads that look like UI buttons and such. I can see why people get fooled sometimes. Those sort of ads should automatically be rejected by af networks and the sites that host them. But $$$

dan1101 ,

I know a kid that is really into multiplayer Minecraft on Xbox and he is always after his parents for more Xbox cards so he can buy different skins and texture packs. Servers like Cubecraft and The Hive must be making a lot of money.

Trump’s Truth Social is now a public company. Experts warn its multibillion-dollar valuation defies logic | CNN Business (edition.cnn.com)

Trump Media & Technology Group, the owner of struggling social media platform Truth Social, is began its long-delayed journey as a public company at Tuesday’s opening bell under the ticker symbol “DJT.”...

dan1101 ,

Just like we had to wait longer for Covid stimulus checks so that his name could appear on them. Guy’s ego is a big problem.

dan1101 ,

To be fair you can get to the list on the site.

dan1101 ,

No more Goldman Sachs socks for me.

In France, the Future Is Arriving on a Barge: The Seine is becoming a test case for a European plan to cut carbon emissions by turning rivers into the new highways (www.nytimes.com)

As pale morning light flickered across the Seine, Capt. Freddy Badar steered his hulking river barge, Le Bosphore, past picturesque Normandy villages and snow-fringed woodlands, setting a course for Paris....

dan1101 ,

Also I think we can just wind up with even more polluted rivers.
