Well yeah, hybrid technology works well on most models. Better mileage and sometimes better power with few downsides.

dan1101 ,

I meant better mileage than internal combustion, yeah sometimes as low as zero if the hybrid allows electric-only.

dan1101 ,

The dumb thing is this wasn’t even a gun, just bullets. Bullets are easy and legal to buy so why smuggle them?

dan1101 ,

Yes seems like another case of Democrats forcefully “helping” black people to make themselves feel better.

dan1101 ,

HP was indeed affordable and good. They made good laptops and laser printers for many years.

How much power do older mainframes need (if they're actually even run)?

I’ve never worked with major enterprise or government systems where there’s aging mainframes — the type that get parodied for running COBOL. So, I’m completely ignorant, although fascinated. Are they power hogs? Are they wildly cheap to run? Are they even run as they were back in the day?

dan1101 ,

One thing I miss about the old IBM mainframes is the console keyboard had a little LED “Wait” light. If it was on you weren’t using much CPU. But if you got it to turn off or mostly off you were really working out the system.

dan1101 ,

Yeah they seem desperate to have the subscriber numbers. I get really tired of the song and dance negotiations once a year but it’s not hard to get months for free or worst case $5 per month. I’ve always felt if they would just give everyone the $5 a month deal they would have more subscribers and probably more money.

And the theory that aliens are humans from the future or a different universe.

The constant need for growth really bothers me. I live in a rural area. People move here because it’s natural and quiet and cost of living is low. Then they complain that there is no Target and no Chik Fila and not enough jobs. The board of supervisors is full of developers. Once they finish building out the county we will be just like every other suburban hell.

dan1101 , (edited )

Exactly, that is a ridiculous, anti-consumer and anti-environment standard.

dan1101 ,

No, not FL. Judging by driving around the US it’s happening all over. Walmarts and apartments and McDonalds everywhere you go. Many are fairly new and right next to rural land. No sidewalks or public transportation, just sprawl into rural areas.

dan1101 ,

Christmas gatherings will really get it going.

dan1101 ,

Part of the telemarketing industry is selling crappy lists to new/unwary telemarketers. The sellers don’t and maybe can’t properly curate the lists, and the telemarketers try to make a living through volume of calls.

dan1101 ,

That free giveaway Desolate co-op. It’s like STALKER-lite mixed with Generation Zero.

A neat little early access open world action RPG called The Bloodline.

Starfield a bit, working on getting a Voyager III.

Vampire Survivors when I just want something simple to play.

Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze on Switch.

dan1101 ,

Elon Musk is a delusional man-child with a very fragile ego.

dan1101 ,

It might be 23% cooler if it had some fat knobby tires.

dan1101 ,

That’s what I did, followed a recent tutorial and installed Ubisoft Connect in desktop mode. After you’re done you can run it from the Deck as a non-Steam game.

dan1101 ,

Can’t afford to take the time off work to fight a war. Unless the corporations will sponsor us.

dan1101 ,

How long can they keep giving away free games when their store has never made a profit?

dan1101 ,

Ok well people spend money on Fortnite and we get free games, that’s a good deal.

dan1101 ,

And I would assume he chose that picture too. It’s not as bad at full size, at least he has some color to his skin and doesn’t look like an alien methhead as much.

dan1101 ,

And you effectively never truly own the house, if you stop paying property taxes on it the city/county takes it.

dan1101 ,

I spent like $1,000 on a ring. Of course she divorced me later on, probably because I didn’t buy an expensive enough ring.

dan1101 ,

I don’t think the current level of drunk driving is large enough to violate everyone’s privacy to catch the very few drivers who drank too much. I’m much more worried about road rage drivers than drunk drivers. Road ragers are actively trying to hurt or kill people.

dan1101 ,

That’s more clever than my 0O1IIO1I0 vanity plate.

dan1101 ,

I guess being in a relationship with an inmate would be nice because they would have lots of time for you and you always know where they are.

dan1101 ,

Just assume you are invisible and that all the other vehicles will do the worst likely thing, and you might be alright.

dan1101 ,

It’s true, I listen to unwind. If I had to listen to Celine Dion or something I’d just get more stressed.

dan1101 ,

They want you to solve 20 of them? What is at the end of this game?

dan1101 ,

Because it says Blackberry OS?

dan1101 ,

It’s probably not far off that. There wouldn’t be any code/data to recognize the made-up browser, so the OS is probably the fallback option.

dan1101 ,

Nice review and recap. I never finished Homefront but I bought and finished Homefront The Revolution this year. It was a pretty good time, it tried to be more of a sandbox.

dan1101 ,

Something to consider, even though they now speak Spanish a lot of people in Mexico aren’t descended from Spaniards, they are descended from tribes like the Aztec, Mayans and Olmec. Might be interesting to study your ancestry.

dan1101 ,

Almost without exception the larger a company is the worse their support is. I think companies should not be allowed to acquire or merge if it takes more than 5 minutes to talk to a person, if you even can at all.

dan1101 ,

I have read that parents are putting them on their kids cars to hopefully keep them safer from road ragers. Or their own cars if they are bad drivers. I believe the trend became popular in Utah.

dan1101 ,

Probably not the inkjets. The lasers have been good. Old ones were eternal.

dan1101 ,

“we’re talking about the rate of fire being 800 or even 1,000 or more rounds a minute. Think about how many bullets that is.”

Um yes that’s a fast fire rate but unless you have a 800 round magazine (which would probably be the size of a small microwave) slid into your Glock, you aren’t firing that many bullets.

Texas high school sends Black student back to in-school suspension over his locs hairstyle (apnews.com)

The student, Darryl George, was suspended for 13 days because his hair is out of compliance when let down, according to a disciplinary notice issued by Barbers Hill High School in Mont Belvieu, Texas. It was his first day back at the school after spending a month at an off-site disciplinary program....

dan1101 ,

Hair below eyebrows and ear lobes? What year is this, 1962?

dan1101 ,

You can’t burn the ground, he would just build more houses for higher rent.

dan1101 ,

And there is so much idle chatter to scroll through. I shouldn’t have to scan through months of jokes and memes to get updated.

dan1101 ,

I think I can handle the Johnny Cage one.

dan1101 ,

Would be ironic if they actually were spies.

dan1101 ,

They will just have to start converting energy to matter, otherwise it’s false advertising and I’ll sue!

dan1101 ,

I think a lot of people are just acknowledging that things haven’t gotten that much better with EVs. I think the lack of charging infrastructure charging time, and range make EVs impractical for many in the USA. Many could commute in one just fine but for long trips they just would be a hassle. Plus they are on average way too expensive.
