Elons shenanigans has to be worse than spez surely

I felt the same about android flagships, now it barely matters which one you buy almost all of them surpassed basic needs and expectations years ago

@chrizbie@lemmy.nz avatar

I love that about older films, the pacing tends to open itself to more emotional investment if you’re in the right mood it can be such a refreshing change.

True, I have a thin pair of tight wool thermal pants that work a treat in winter

chrizbie OP ,
@chrizbie@lemmy.nz avatar

Well the truth is I recently started a job at a high school and the female students mostly wear skirts, of them about half of them wear dark stockings and I just ¯_ (ツ) _/¯ I dunno I just wondered what they do but looking through the comments it totally makes sense that they’d add a layer of comfort particularly in colder months, when I realized I also wear a tight pair of thermal pants sometimes then it became clearer as well

Not that anyone has to justify wearing what they wear I was just slightly curious is all

chrizbie OP ,
@chrizbie@lemmy.nz avatar

I suppose also, there was likely a time before modern textiles when wearing a skirt that was durable enough for every day use could have been pretty uncomfortable

There we go. That’s the answer lol

Are straws an unnecessary (but convenient) invention?

People often talk about swapping out plastic straws for other materials to help the ocean/fish and the environment, but they also complain about paper straws falling apart easily. Other alternatives that are slightly more sturdy like straws made of straw don’t seem very common....

chrizbie ,
@chrizbie@lemmy.nz avatar

I heard an american the other day talking about large noodles being used as straws, I don’t know if this was pasta or whatever but I thought that was insteresting

YSK: you can setup pihole on any old rooted android (5.0+) device (lemmy.nz)

I just discovered this and it works fantastically on any old / unused android device you might have lying around, I was shocked at how easy it was, all the instructions are there, once you have it running all you need to do is set your router DNS settings to your pihole IP address and presto! Ads and trackers are gone!...

chrizbie OP ,
@chrizbie@lemmy.nz avatar

Good point, I’ll have to look into that

chrizbie OP , (edited )
@chrizbie@lemmy.nz avatar

Yeah I’ll keep an eye on it and see how it goes, should be alright though I turned the battery optimization off

chrizbie OP ,
@chrizbie@lemmy.nz avatar

I removed the battery but now I can’t get the fucker to turn on lol

chrizbie OP ,
@chrizbie@lemmy.nz avatar

I think I might have broken something, even when I clip the battery back in I get nothing 😟

chrizbie OP ,
@chrizbie@lemmy.nz avatar

I haven’t seen any notable issues yet, a lot of people use a wireless pi zero to do the same thing so as long as you aren’t running a state of the art gaming rig (which i’m not) I think it’ll be fine

chrizbie OP ,
@chrizbie@lemmy.nz avatar

I looked a little closer at the battery connectors and when pulling the battery out I must have yanked the little wires out of the clip just ever so slightly (I could see a little bit of them reflecting on one side) I carefully pushed them back in and avast! There is life again! Thank you kind stranger!

chrizbie OP ,
@chrizbie@lemmy.nz avatar

Got it up and running now! Thanks mate

I hear you, but I’m pretty happy with how this is working out, the advantage here is that it blocks ads and trackers for the whole network so it works on my wife’s devices without her having to do anything (which she wouldn’t anyway)

chrizbie OP ,
@chrizbie@lemmy.nz avatar

Can I ask what kind of setup you have there? In terms of software etc…

chrizbie OP ,
@chrizbie@lemmy.nz avatar

Oh I see well I could say I’m an average Joe lol

chrizbie OP ,
@chrizbie@lemmy.nz avatar

Probably worth it to remove ads and trackers thogh

chrizbie OP ,

it’s awesome, and they also have a nice rss feed and podcast, might look at subscribing

shit yeah, vice was fantastic

Have you ever been sexually attracted to someone you found repulsive?

It happened to me recently at work. I don’t even find her physically attractive, and her personality is not what I’m into at all. But I was still somehow attracted to her - and she also was to me. She didn’t like me, and I certainly am not the kind of man she goes for. It’s like we had a strong connection in one area...

chrizbie ,
@chrizbie@lemmy.nz avatar

Interesting, I have found myself sexually attracted to some older women that aren’t really that attractive physically but they give off kind of a sultry vibe, but I couldn’t say I found them repulsive in any way, does that ring familiar?

I was very bolshy in deleting my reddit account and made a real solid commitment to only use Lemmy the instant that the api changes where announced, … Two months later and I started feeling a bit stranded, at times it seems like there’s nothing but content about programming, Linux, Foss, privacy, and Ukraine but at other times it can be really engaging…

However I have ended up making a new reddit account just so I can lurk from time to time

I have spent too long here

My favorite Mastodon and Lemmy clients:

I was looking for a place to share my two favorite Mastodon and Lemmy clients, they are called Voyager Connect Boost for Lemmy and Moshidon for Mastodon (if you are really serious about privacy I recommend Connect still) (the official Mastodon app works fine though, you just can’t follow new hashtags from it)...

chrizbie ,
@chrizbie@lemmy.nz avatar

I really like thunder at the moment but voyager is a beautiful app

chrizbie ,
@chrizbie@lemmy.nz avatar

More apps then content hah

chrizbie ,
@chrizbie@lemmy.nz avatar

Wow, I completely forgot about Viber that’s amazing

chrizbie OP ,
@chrizbie@lemmy.nz avatar

There’s good reason to love Lemmy, and since joining I’ve also gone very Foss and privacy centric but I just feel like it’s a bit quiet, maybe it’s just me

chrizbie OP ,

I know what some of those words mean

I’ve just made myself a hexbear account because of the mentions on here, looks interesting

chrizbie OP ,
@chrizbie@lemmy.nz avatar

Cheers, will mention it to them!

chrizbie OP ,
@chrizbie@lemmy.nz avatar

Lol yeah I know what you mean that bothered me a while ago too, I just wanted to check in

chrizbie OP ,
@chrizbie@lemmy.nz avatar

There’s a great app on fdroid called geddit that browses reddit without using the APIs so there’s no logging in or commenting, it might be useful for you

chrizbie OP , (edited )
@chrizbie@lemmy.nz avatar

I think I want to love it just slightly more than I actually love it, there’s so much potential and I LOVE that it’s FOSS by it’s very nature but it’s a little lacking as it stands which has both negative and positive results

chrizbie OP ,
@chrizbie@lemmy.nz avatar

Agreed, I just won’t bother

chrizbie OP ,
@chrizbie@lemmy.nz avatar

Wait…

I had no idea Margot Robbie was such a prolific android enthusiast

chrizbie OP ,
@chrizbie@lemmy.nz avatar

I like the ui myself, and some of the apps are absolutely beautiful, I get you on the lack of engagement though, I’ve actually gone back and opened up a reddit account for this reason, I still love Lemmy and I’m certainly not giving up hope yet, but sometimes I just need more…
