I had a stock Debian install actually rename the device for my NIC when I changed GPUs. You should double-check if your NIC has the same entry in /dev with and without the GPU. After I changed the name in some config files the NIC worked fine with the GPU in, it could be easy as that.

You should check out the Fedora atomic distros if you haven’t already. Making the system work more like a git repo is what they are doing with rpm-ostree. I am liking it a lot.

Your files are a mutable part, they stick around for rebase and rollback. (I believe /etc also.) If it’s only files in a home directory you could try a different DE by making a new user. But yeah I don’t think it has a built-in solution for something like that.

If you have a spare homelab machine Fedora does an immutable build called IoT (they branded it wrong it’s just a barebones install appropriate for servers also).

What’d you dislike about Incus that libvirt does easier? I’m on a similar trajectory as you. I have Incus on Debian but I am transitioning to IoT for that machine. I kinda like Incus. If their representatives were for the rule of law they would have impeached him over the insurrection (if not over extorting a foreign country (if they were for the rule of law they would have heard evidence)) and ensured he was barred from office.
