So, if I understand correctly, the loss of motoric functions in Parkinson’s is thought to be caused by the loss of dopamin in the brain. However, motoric functions remain normal if there’s even just a little dopamin left in the system, which is surprising.

For reasons of trying to make it stricter, less toothless.

What's your favorite Enigma / Riddle / Sentence Puzzle?

Tomorrow is a big event at my university. I’d like to make a fun thing where the people of the Board Game society I am in can try to find me for a riddle, kind of a Where is Waldo in a place where there is a crap tone of people to find the NPC that’ll give them a Riddle (Maybe something to win? No idea how I could do that...

Because that would turn the delicious deserts into disgusting salty porridge. I’m terribly sorry.

angrystego ,

Just learn to cope. People express themselves in different ways.

angrystego ,

Yeah, they expressed themselves with emoticons, which is perfectly alright. Hopefully I got the message: that they’re desgusted with the expression “furt dad”. I don’t mind their form of expressing themselves. The intolerance of the message is what I was reacting to. It’s not that big of a deal though. Funny how hard it is to express oneself in writing clearly enough to be understood.

Awsome coloration - such a cutie! Does she like being wheeled around?

It took me 16 years to figure out why I hate a Journey song. What song did you hated until you figured out why?

I love Journey. But for some reason I hated, “Don’t Stop Believin” and I could not understand why I loathed that song until I recently rewatched The Sopranos for the second time after 16 years and the final episode had that song playing until the “blackout.” And now I know why…...

I think it’s the disonance with the music. The music kind of switches of your brain and makes it sound ok.

Palm oil is popular because it’s cheap. That’s why it substituted all other fats in most products. Is this cheaper? If not, it has no chance to replace palm oil.

angrystego ,

This needed some next-level timing on the photographer’s end.

angrystego ,

Glad to see Ayran love. It’s amazing how much better salty water tastes when you add some yogurth!

Population growth is not sustainable. There must be times when the numbers go down. This is much better than war or famine.

angrystego ,

I have two vocal girls, one of them very much so. When she starts yelling about something she cannot get, I offer something else she likes that I’m willing to give. She’s very cuddly, so offering pets and a head to bump into calms her down in most cases. A short additional playtime is usually a viable alternative.

Mitochondria (the famous powerhouse of the cell) is a symbiotic bacteria that became so entangled with our cell that neither can now live without the other. Sorry to everyone who knows, in some regions this is not common knowledge. Knowing this makes your life immensely better because it’s such a cool fact.

angrystego ,

Mind blown, thanks!

angrystego ,

I’m sure you’re right, but I have so many questions now! Doesn’t that depend on the technique I use? Like what if I neither pivot my feet nor twist my torso? What about punching in different directions, for example upwards? I’ve been punching the air around me for a full minute now.

angrystego ,

Ok, wait, does that work for bacteria too?

I love Nightwish, but I wish more of their lyrics made sense.

A lot of music— especially metal— is known for having lyrics that sound cool and evoke a specific feeling but that don’t actually have any coherence. Creek Mary’s Tears tells a specific message; but for the most part Nightwish’s lyrics don’t....

angrystego ,

I wish more of their lyrics made night. Fixed it for you.

Why is the meowing always interpreted with a negative connotation as manipulation and not neutrally as enhancement of communication. I love the fact that my cats tell me they need something. Sometimes I meow back at them, yet I don’t feel manipulative at all.

angrystego ,

Yeah, you’re right, it is possible to use it in a neutral way. I still think it would be better to use a term without negative social connotations.

angrystego ,

Can’t believe we got a Twin Peaks scene in Trek. I didn’t know I needed that but it makes me so happy!

Have watched TOS - Enterprise. Will watching Discovery-SNW increase my enjoyment of Lower Decks?

My partner and I have just binged TOS-Enterprise last year and we are starting Discovery today. I was just wondering if we can also start LD or will there still be jokes from Discovery (and the later shows) that we might miss out on? I have really bad FOMO anxiety and am worried there will be references in LD that we will miss...

angrystego ,

Discovery is not necessary, but there’s quite a bit of stuff from TNG, Voyager and DS9 in Lower Decks.

Just read Animal Farm by George Orwell and i loved it (No Spoilers)

I know it is a known Classic but i liked Animal Farm so much i had to share. Before reading i thought that it would be similar to 1984 or Brave new world which it kind of is but its also very very different. Right from the Beginning i was hooked. I really love Orwells Books but this one is my favourite. I did not expect that. So...

Some Tesla engineers secretly started designing a Cybertruck alternative because they 'hated' it (www.autoblog.com)

Some Tesla engineers secretly started designing a Cybertruck alternative because they ‘hated’ it::“They were like, ‘You can’t be serious.’ They didn’t want to have anything to do with it,” Franz von Holzhausen said, according to Walter Isaacson.

angrystego ,

So both the engineers and everyone in the comments is just saying they hate/like the look of it? That’s the last important part. As I understand it, the Cybertruck is never going to be allowed to the roads in Europe because of how unsafe it is. That’s what people should be interested in. Looks can be pleasing to some and ugly to others and that’s ok.

angrystego ,

Can you block someone using a browser? I clicked their name and then “block user”, but it did nothing.

angrystego ,

He’s a tabby and white. He just happens to have a slightly orangy base colour, which is not uncommon. He’s very beautiful!

angrystego ,

Not everyone’s capable of loving other people’s kids but they can still be great parents to their own. Why not let them?

angrystego ,

Such a them problem is not a reason not to let them reproduce.

angrystego ,

So what do you think they meant by the the them-problem? What point were they trying to make? Do you think the comment was in favour of helping people with biological reproduction even though their not interested in adoption? Please, help me learn nuance.

Star Trek and The Orville, which is better/worse?

I asked this question sometime ago on The Orville’s subreddit, and surprisingly got mixed responses. I assume most here however, are going to prefer Star Trek, specifically TNG that its aping from. For the record I do prefer TNG as well, but rewatching The Orville, after you get past its kinda sucky first season, I really...

angrystego ,

I feel the same about the last season. It seems to me they don’t make enough effort to think their ideas properly through anymore and just preach without applying logic, which is not satisfying to me. For those reasons I now prefer the Lower Decks. LD episodes seem much more creative to me and I like the diversity of character interactions and relationships.

angrystego ,

Why not? This is also a genuine question. What is puzzling you about girls wearing leggings? Are you wondering why they don’t wear jeans or some other kind of pants instead? If yes, the answer might be: a) fashion changes all the time and this is in now and b) leggings are usually made of very stretchy fabrics, which makes them much more comfortable than form-fitting trousers made of more traditional textiles.

angrystego ,

When in comes to combination of leggings and skirts, I think many women also feel safer and less exposed with legging under their skirts. Active girls and women don’t have to think of their movements wearing leggings under a mini-skirt or a lightweight fabric skirt.

angrystego ,

Yeah, communism leads to empty shelves in stores, so people are pleasantly surprised by any goods at all.

A multivitamin is not bad, but different vitamins need different other substances to be available for the body. Eg. some are soluble in water (like the B group) some, like vitamin D need fat to be solved in (and it’s good to acompany it with vitamin K to make D work as intended). Be careful with vitamin A - people in developed countries usually have too much and it can cause serious problems. It’s generally good to know what you’re taking and why. But if you just need a quick fix, a multivitamin is usually ok.

angrystego ,

You can do it, but you need to try really hard to overdose on C or D.

angrystego ,

That’s what they were trying to filter out. It says that majority of the people in the study started smoking before the age of 20 and started having mental problems after the age of 30. Teenagers’ brains are not fully developed yet, so it is possible that nicotine interferes with healthy development.

angrystego ,

The most interesting thing for me was that the article mentioned there were smoking-related genes. I didn’t know that.

angrystego ,

I’m a bit confused. Do the inuendos prevent it from being a love story? I always found it to be a tragic lovestory of two horny teenagers. I think hornyness is a common part of being in love.

angrystego ,

I agree with most of this. I differ in that I think foolish love is a Natural and integral part of the age of the protagonists. The teenagers are not ať fault in my eyes. So to me, it seems more like a warning about foolish adults with the prime example being friar Laurence - seriously, wtf man, what were you thinking, you were supposed to know better!

angrystego ,

The ears! And the adorable spot on the nose!

Björk in Dancer in the dark. I never want to see the film again (too emotionally taxing for me), but her performance was outstanding.

Let’s put a void in every dark corner. I’m never scared with cats around.
