I’m only able to buy a good dark avocado, so I can’t help you with the green type. I buy them when they’re really soft to the touch, more like the mentioned tomato than like a cucumber, but not so soft that I could deform them. I love putting avocados on bread instead of butter, so I prefer them really soft. I don’t use lemon nor salt, I like them just the way they are.

This used to be true and perhaps still is in some places, but in some European countries the laws have changed a bit recently which means bad time for pharma companies. They now don’t have enough finances to bribe doctors effectively. (Source: family member in European pharma.)

Well, the second place is more crafty, but where’s the fun in that? There would be huge amounts of similar nice pictures in the competition. The first place makes me laugh and uses a way to look at the dog shape that I haven’t seen before. I prefer this added value to perfect technique.

Why is cooking a food item method called different things by what the item is, or what is the criteria?

On the Food network they boil potatoes, but they poach carrots. They poach turkey, but they boil eggs. They sauté’ onions, but they fry eggs in the same pan. Likewise, they fry hash browns, but they sauté’ onions in the same pan before adding the potatoes....

If you hand me a poached egg, I’m not going to take it because I can see it has no shell and it’s going to be all over me staining me with the runny yolk. Now if you gave me an egg with a shell and told me it was a soft-boiled egg, I would think about the consistency.

I’m sorry you were downvoted, your experience is as valid as anyone else’s. I think it just means the downvoting people have cats who enjoy bellyrubs, which is actually kind of nice to think about. Great to hear from another cat person and rescue adopter!

I love cat stories with good endings like this one. I also have a rescue at home. She was found in a street being very skinny and telling everyone how hungry she was (she’s very vocal). The doctor who did the basic necessary treatment and who fixed her said her age was about 3 years, but she was rather small and very very naive at that time, so I’m pretty sure she was no more than a year old.

Her youth probably helped her to adapt to mostly indoor life. She still tends to eat too much too quickly, so I leave a spoon in her bowl to make it more difficult for her to suck in everything in 3 seconds and then throw it up.

At first her belly was 100% a trap, but now, 4 years later, she’s quite fond of belly rubbing.

I agree with you when it comes to human history and science development. The quip is aimed at Russian history specifically, and as with many jokes, you have to be attuned to what it jokes about to enjoy it (the different eras of suffering of common people in Russia and the turbulent changes that often lead to more suffering). It’s just a joke though, it doesn’t survive deep scrutiny.

This is more complicated, as is often the case. The phytoestrogen in soy does have similar effects on people as human estrogen, and the effects can be rather positive (regulation of weight and better insuline sensitivity). Source here.

The same review mentions potencial negative effects and concerns: “In adult male rats, exposure to dietary soy decreased androgen levels and prostate weight.” and “In humans, the use of soy or purified phytoestrogens in women at high risk of, or diagnosed with, breast cancer as well as in infants fed with soy-based formula are legitimate areas of concern.”

Both beneficial and adverse effects of soy seem to be understudied. For more information about soy phytoestrogens and both male and female fertility, check out this article.

It’s a review based on a number of scientific papers that research either one or the other. I think based on the results of the studies the authors decided it was safe to write about both phytoestrogen contained in whole soy and the purified one, because the concerns connectedto both these things are similar. I think that’s legitimate.
