US Lemmys what could Biden do in the next 6 months to EARN your vote? (other than just not being Trump)

Sorry this is kinda political. Is there an asklemmypolitics group this would be better for? I’m hoping not to get into the libs vs progressives political debate we see everywhere on here… Just want to know what people are actually looking for.

Wes4Humanity OP ,

Aren’t they rescheduling cannabis soon? Too little too late?

I can’t believe dejoy is still in the post office! That’s ridiculous

Wes4Humanity OP ,

Of course… But imagining a world where he actually had to earn it… What could he do to actually earn your vote?

Wes4Humanity ,

I generally don’t have any interest in music… I mean, is fine some of the time, but I certainly wouldn’t go out of my way for it. I also don’t think it should be allowed as “background noise” in public places. It can have profound effects on your mood without you even realizing it’s happening.

Wes4Humanity ,

Ugh… There’s just no way a state like Louisiana has the mental health care apparatus needed for this. Obviously real mental health help is ideal, but I just don’t believe it’ll happen.

Local governments struggle to distribute their share of billions from opioid settlements (apnews.com)

Settlement money to help stem the decades-long opioid addiction and overdose epidemic is rolling out to small towns and big cities across the U.S., but advocates worry that chunks of it may be used in ways that don’t make a dent in the crisis....

Wes4Humanity ,

It’s all just going to MAT programs, and you guessed it, right back to the pharmaceutical companies… MAT programs don’t work if the goal is to get people off drugs, but of course the goal isn’t to get them off drugs, it’s to get them onto the profitable drugs

This is why absolute freedom can never exist as long as there are at least 2 people in existence… Either they must both give up their freedom to harm the other, or soon there will only be 1 person left, maybe 0.

Wes4Humanity ,

Absolute freedom would be the ability to do whatever one wants to do whenever one wants to do it. However, the laws of physics and biology get in the way pretty quickly. So that leaves us with absolute freedom within the laws of the universe. However, it’s only possible to have this absolute freedom so long as there is only 1 person in existence. As soon as you add a second person, both must agree to forgo the freedom to harm the other, or soon enough there will only be 1 or 0 people left.

In a society, the closest we can get to freedom is allowing people to do whatever they want as long as it doesn’t effect anyone else. Once it effects others, they should get a say in it, otherwise the person doing the stuff has more freedom than the people being effected by it. This is where we actually are.

Wes4Humanity ,

Anything you say WILL be used against you… It’s hidden right there in the Miranda Rights

Wes4Humanity ,

This is such a good example of the ratchet effect… Trump lowers tax from 35% to 21%, then Biden comes in and only brings it up to 28% solidifying that 21% as a minimum for big corps… Ratchet right, hold there until the next Republican lowers it more

Corporations should pay the whole bill for a functioning society every quarter… The people should get to decide what a functioning society entails… I don’t care of it’s 1% or 99% of corporate profits, or if it changes every quarter… No exceptions for parking your company in another country, you want to sell your shit in the US, you pay the bill

EXCLUSIVE: “You Have Been Warned”: Republican Senators Threaten the ICC Prosecutor over Possible Israel Arrest Warrants (zeteo.com)

A group of influential Republican senators has sent a letter to International Criminal Court (ICC) chief prosecutor Karim Khan, warning him not to issue international arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli officials, and threatening him with “severe sanctions” if he does so....

Wes4Humanity ,

No no no… The laws they want to enforce only apply to not white people /s

Wes4Humanity ,

Anno online… Great game, got really into it, then realized it was on its way out… Sad times

Wes4Humanity ,

I absolutely hate it when news corporations say any form of “here’s what you need to know”… What I hear is “here’s what we WANT you to know”… And I assume what follows well be mostly bullshit and propaganda

Give me all the information in an unbiased factual way, and let ME decide what I need to know

Wes4Humanity ,

“lack of values and decadence” sounds like they’re afraid of themselves

Wes4Humanity ,

I’m sure they were able to pick themselves up by the bootstraps right?

Wes4Humanity ,

Okay but playing devil’s advocate, that could just mean politics stayed the same as people moved left.

Wes4Humanity ,

I think what I’ve observed is that economic politics has moved right while social politics has moved left… While society in general has moved left completely… I think both parties fight over the social stuff so they can distract from the economic stuff because economically they are basically the same party, working together for the exploiter class. And for every small step to the social left, we have to concede 10 to the economic right.

Wes4Humanity ,

If I’m understanding the Overton window correctly, it’s the range of ideas that would be politically feasible without immediately getting voted out of office… So rightward pressure would mean society at large moving to the right. Since we know society at large has moved left, I think I’d have to argue that the window only works if we live somewhere that what society wants actually matters. Due to mapping and other shenanigans I don’t think the window means anything today. In a direct democracy I think we’d see a very progressive society develop. We live in an oligarchy though, so all that matters is what the rich want, and they want us fighting each other over trans people and guns and abortion rather than fighting them over economics.

Wes4Humanity ,

What blows my mind is that they completely squandered the opportunity that COVID provided for VR education. They could have, and imo should have, given away their hardware to every school/student and then created immersive education software that they could charge the schools for. Imagine learning Magic School Bus style… Chemistry and biology from the point of view of a molecule, travel the universe, be present at major historical events, or just take a walk around ancient Rome to see how they lived. They could have gotten a whole generation hooked on their system… Kinda like Apple did in the 90s. If they want the “metaverse” to work, they need to build an infrastructure that allows users to build their own stuff. Like just make a “city” but allow users to fill it with their own buildings, bars, houses, virtual work places, etc

Wes4Humanity ,

True… But you’d think for $45b they could have developed some good software

Wes4Humanity ,

How much is the UBI? Can I live off it comfortably? I’d probably contribute to society by spending the money thereby supporting the economy /s

Wes4Humanity ,

I wonder what happens to this chart if you remove the top 1% from the calculations. “Median” basically means halfway between the top and bottom… The massive and increasing wealth gap means this graph is basically worthless.

Wes4Humanity ,

Pretty sure they’re saying if we taxes everyone 100%… Collected all the money from everyone in the country, then gave it all back to the central bank we borrowed it from originally, we’d still owe the interest on the debt… With no more money in the system where would we get the “taxes”?
