I don’t mind identifying people based on their unique pp but I find that quite NSFW

WereCat ,

To be fair your comment begged for that joke and I absolutely had to take that freebie ;)

WereCat ,

I don’t believe that only 800 people played on Linux. It makes no sense to me in the grand scheme of things. I have a personal YT channel with only 108 subs and my random low effort video on how to get League running on Steam Deck has almost 70k views which is nuts and there are many other much better videos than mine with many more views. If only 0.1% of those people are active players that would still make a lot more than “800” figure. I know this is just a random speculation but 800 is just waaaay too low.

WereCat ,

I use these at work where I have to use ear plugs. I hate in-ear headphones and these work perfect for my niche. Also get 2 workdays worth of battery life from these.

What I find a great bonus is that the mic on them does not pick any of the 80dB+ noise around me when I’m making calls. Also comfortable to the point that I sometimes forget I even wear them.

Also a physical button for pause/play so I don’t have to take off my gloves.

I find the default EQ quite bad with earplugs so I just use the parametric Wavelet EQ SW on my Android phone with quick preset for my other Sony WH1000XM3… Which sounds great on these as well especially for voices/vocals as I tend to listen to audio books.

WereCat ,

Flick stick + Gyro is imo better on the SC but it also has a longer learning curve

WereCat OP ,

It’s a new laptop. Just released like 2 months ago so I doubt CMOS battery is an issue

WereCat OP ,

No, I will when I get home, didn’t occur to me to try

WereCat OP ,

Thanks, will look at it when I get home. Battery is fine

WereCat OP ,

I just got home. You’re right that it’s using NTP. I went into BIOS and checked system time and it was 1h behind so I corrected it. timedatectl shows that system clock sync is OFF so I used hwclock --systohc command to sync with system clock and will see if that causes any issues. If it wont work then I’ll try to just stick with your way of doing it. But thanks for letting me know about the hwclock command.

WereCat ,

Why shouldn’t he? It’s a popular distro and one of the easier ones to get into especially with a NVIDIA card.

WereCat ,

The common sense is to expect you can wake up your device from sleep without having to troubleshoot why it is not waking up suddenly for no apparent reason. I don’t feel like OP is complaining about how stuff works or does not work differently on PopOS rather than his frustration at the system suddenly not waking up which was the breaking point as he also lost his work done in the web browser.

WereCat ,

And that means PopOS shouldn’t be used anymore?

WereCat ,

Yes, I only listed the issue that broke the camels back. Yes, you should look into what you’re getting into but who in their right mind is going to search for any obscure issues they may run into before they actually run into them? That’s just unreasonable and you woudn’t even think of them even if you tried.

WereCat ,

When you take things out of context, yes

WereCat ,

Ok so if I run into issues on Fedora 39 then I should take it with a grain of salt because Fedora is more cutting edge? What distro do you suggest then?

WereCat ,

I get what you’re saying but I don’t agree that it matters. PopOS is quite popular and recommended distro and it’s fair to critique it if you run into issues. For average user it does not matter that they are working on Cosmic and that they are not updating the current version much if at all. They picked it because it’s popular or was recommended.

If someone will have bad bug fiesta experience on KDE Plasma 6 it’s easy to shrug it away as “it’s new, they still need to iron out issues” the same way as “that’s 2y old, what did you expect?”.

WereCat ,

I agree with you but I feel like you’re completely missing the point I’m trying to make because this has nothing to do with what I’m saying. I’m talking from the perspective of someone who goes to try Linux and then runs into obscure issue and judges his experience based on that. It has nothing to do with how development works, bug reporting and making matters better. It’s just pure experience of what the OP encountered. From that point of view the things you are saying are irrelevant to the normal user. And my examples of Fedora or KDE Plasma were not meant to say it’s the same thing as what Pop!_OS is doing rather than drive the point that from someone else’s perspective who goes to try Linux and runs into obscure issues they may not even know how to find a solution to, it’s irrelevant what the devs do, how old is the distco, etc… They got the newest version available on the website and installed it expecting it to work with maybe some minor flaws and tinkering needed. The only thing that matters is that it’s not working as expected and the user is left clueless and frustrated when something completely breaks.

Plenty of new people who get lured into trying Linux don’t even know what to look for to make the right decision so they often go in blind and then get shunned by Linux “experts” because they “didn’t make research” regardless of which distro they went with because there will always be those who will say they picked the wrong one.

I’m just using the Balanced power mode in Pop!_OS. I get around 6h of watching videos with 7540U on a 1200p OLED screen (400nit) at roughly 50% brightness. (65Wh battery).

I don’t have any reference to battery life on Windows as I did not install it on my laptop but I suppose it should be a bit better.

WereCat ,

If I learned anything when using Blender, it’s that the first thing you do is to delete the default cube.

WereCat ,

I prefer this. I’ve been annoyed by having to go to the settings every time I wanted to swap device I want to connect to. I rarely turn off BT anyways.

WereCat ,

This I can agree with

WereCat ,

I knew about it but still prefer this new way

WereCat ,

I’ve bought Witch Spring R to play on Steam Deck while I do memory OC and testing on my PC

WereCat ,

Then there are people who sleep while wearing boots

WereCat ,

I was not aware this existed. Thanks for pointing it out! Added to wish list and waiting for sale :D

WereCat ,

Or just use multiple browsers? If one size fits all for you then good for you but there is no Firefox based browser that can replace Vivaldi for me. So I use both, one for my power user needs and other for private browsing (hardened Firefox, normal FF isn’t great for privacy either)

WereCat ,

Vivaldi has tab hibernation so that the extra tabs barely take any resources unless you open them.

I use over 100 tabs. Basically serves as an always changing bookmarks. Those tabs are also split across multiple workgroups between which I can switch easily with a flick of my mouse.

WereCat ,

Every time I see someone film vertically I send them this YT video /watch?v=xL23Xvv1Pis (was not sure if I’m allowed to post links here). I just think it’s a brilliant and underappreciated parody.

TBF I kind of got used to portrait videos but I still block YT shorts and alike as most videos in that format are garbage anyways.

WereCat ,

I’d probably try Fugu if I had to order my last meal. I also doubt they would bother to cook it properly so I would avoid my sentence (officially).

WereCat ,

Exactly, we need either around 25% more perf at lower power or 50% at the same power otherwise there’s no point.

WereCat ,

Yes, from $900k down to $800k in this market. So you still can’t afford it? Shame…

WereCat ,

I feel like I’m between 4 and 5 if I try to imagine something on purpose but if I’m reading a book or someone is describing something to me I’m a solid 1 as I can vividly see what it’s being described.

WereCat ,

Thanks for explanation. I thought the joke is plane simple but it’s actually about a helicopter.

WereCat ,
  • Ten (he) mesiac (moon)
  • To (it) slnko (sun)

We got neutral genders in Slovak as well.

For example

  • Tá žena (that (she) woman)
  • To dievča (that (it) girl)
  • Ten chlap (that (he) man)

It all depends on how the word sounds and changes when you say it in different ways (skloňovanie / bending the word).

And we also got 4 patterns for each gender based on which how the word changes so you get over 20 combinations on how to say word in each gender.

WereCat ,

Now you make OP sad and he has to look for different fediverse to find commenters that align with his view… Or maybe you need to find posts that make you supportive, idk…

WereCat ,

Eating out is luxury and not necessity and that makes tiping a necessity?

WereCat ,

I was told that when you see a nuclear explosion then you should carefully observe it because you’ll never see anything like it again in your life.
