A dairy farm is accused of stealing $3 million in wages. But was there a crime? (minnesotareformer.com)

Over the past three years, dairy farmers Keith Schaefer and his daughter Megan Hill stole at least $3 million from hundreds of their workers across central Minnesota, according to a lawsuit filed by Attorney General Keith Ellison earlier this month....

Living in a hot and humid climate I treat every piece of clothing like this. Once it has touched me it goes straight into the laundry bin. Except for jeans, which I do air/sun dry a couple of times before rinsing them.

What countries did you move from and to?

Streetdog ,

That’s hilarious. Usually it takes at least a couple of hours before that happens.

They are not downvoting him for being circumcised, but for the (incorrect) information following that fact. I’d be pissed too if I couldn’t read, so get my upvote.

This has been pretty much the case in this community. It’s more for people to praise the tech they’re owning right now, and bitch about anything they don’t own. I’m just browsing, not sure if there’s a futurism community. Your arguments would find better ground there, unfortunately.

The death penalty isn’t more cost-effective than life imprisonment. So your last argument ($) is actually against the death penalty.

I’d jump on the Fairphone first thing if not having a single tie to an advertising/tracking company was an option. But here we are.

Also when visiting Fairphone forums, I get “This community is not accessible in your location.”

It is still a business and a business is gonna business, thus never gonna be as ethical as one would want.

70% of the world is using Google and Apple is giving Google the middle finger.

😂

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Messed up things a doctor did to you or someone you know? / Bad experiences with doctors

Today I spoke to a coworker who had bad experiences with doctors and was seeking recommendations for a new one, then other coworkers chimed in, and so I decided to ask you guys as well. Well, not for a doctor recommendation, but about your bad experienced with doctors?...

Streetdog ,

I’ve had eczema all my life. Mostly on my face/arms/legs, whenever exposed (summer/winter). Have been prescribed a shitton of steroid-based ointments. That never worked. From GP to dermatologists, they never knew coz “eczema can’t be explained”, so they always “assumed” stuff, blaming the heat, the cold, the dust, the sun, the water, too much soap, too little soap (calling me dirty).

Not once did they (offer me to) test for allergies. Just assumed it was something unexplainable. Just live with it.

Even been called a liar when I told them those steroid-based ointments actually make it worse.

I moved to another country, still had this eczema. Worse actually. 1 GP visit and an allergy test later it appears I have a mold allergy.

Doesn’t help I have lived and still live in an even more humid environment. Rain is the worst, because the spores come out. But with the help of some anti-histamines I have been eczema free for a few years. Mold thrives on steroids, so I avoid that.

Doctors are still people and people make mistakes.

Yet it’s hard to not hold a grudge against a doctor telling you you’re a liar. Let alone if multiple say the same thing. Especially if they do it “by the book” so to speak.

The experience I had here, another country, the GP just looked at my eczema (basically eyes, fingers, spots on legs and arms all red and itchy af) and said without a doubt in her voice “allergy.” And was she right about that. So don’t give up hope.

Pretty sure a certain “someone” still has our data.

Streetdog ,

E.g. You’d definitely wouldn’t want other people to know you’re into fart-stuff.

Streetdog ,

I’m fine with it as long as there’s no sediment.

Streetdog ,

It better be, I’m not gonna lurk everything on Lemmy for it to not be on the frigging test.

Some of my friends (people I just know actually) have flat feet = flat earth confirmed.

I, myself, happen to have a decent arch (not Linux) on my feetsies, it sure feels like I’m always walking uphill.

Streetdog ,

It’s why I prefer the, not need to be said but say it anyway, more stable Debian as a solid foundation.

Streetdog ,

Except when you’re from the Netherlands.

Streetdog ,

That’s why I will always chose Google because Google doesn’t do such things!

Streetdog ,

As I understand, to run a truly de-Googled Android you need to buy Google’s Pixel. I ain’t sending a single penny to an ad company.

Streetdog ,

Google is an ad company, and growing.

Streetdog ,

Luckily good ol’ Google never targeted kids with their ads.

Streetdog ,

That’s very good to know. I’m gonna bookmark your comment and look into them before my next phone purchase.

You can define intellegence by referring to all the very intelligent people online 🧠

Two brands suspend advertising on X after their ads appeared next to pro-Nazi content (www.cnn.com)

At least two brands have said they will suspend advertising on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, after their ads and those of other companies were run on an account promoting fascism. The issue came less than a week after X CEO Linda Yaccarino publicly affirmed the company’s commitment to brand safety for advertisers.

Statistically more idiots aren’t using Apple.

I recently switched one of my VPS to Debian 12.1 coming from Ubuntu 22.04.* LTS, because of the newer kernel and newer packages. I think there was an Ubuntu update this week, didn’t have time to look into it, so I’m not sure if it still applies.

I once had the Nokia N9 with MeeGo on it.

www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nokia_N9

It was a great phone, but sadly there was little support for (3rd party) apps. I had it for like 3 months, could still get a buck for it (wish I’d kept it) and bought something else with the money.

Streetdog ,

It was summer 2011, I remember Windows Phone shops here in my area around that time, which sold something similar hardware-wise. I bought (I think) a Galaxy, but switched to the iPhone 4s when it was released here.

I miss my N82. So simple, had my music and SSH on in it. All I needed back then.

Probably a cover for bald people.

Any business with cheap products and little traffic. I live in a high rise with a view on a street with many little shops.

In my street there’s a shop for wedding dresses 2-3k $ a pop. I understand it’s not high traffic so whenever there is a car parked in front, usually for a couple of hours, it’s probably a customer.

Then there is some convenience stores. All have heavy traffic, from the corporate one to the local mom&pops shop.

Then there is this small sushi joint. Open for 3 hours everyday. I’ve never seen any customers sitting inside or walk in. Can’t find them on our local food delivery. Twice a week there’s the same blue Mercedes parked in front.

Not difficult to spot which business is sus.

Sad thing is, the police pops into that sushi joint the same day that blue Mercedes was parked in front.

More corrupt than the US, unfortunately.
