Thoughts on Space Games, Part 1: Top-5 AAA Games

Hey everyone, I’m a big player of Space Games of all forms, and this mini-genre (or ‘theme’, if you prefer) really has a TON of range and depth, and is a very fertile ground for indie and unique projects. I was recently playing a game called Avorion, after owning it for years without ever really engaging with it, and...

EVE always fascinated me, but at the same time how beginner unfriendly I’ve heard it is + feeling like I’ll probably not last long before I get killed off makes me wary of trying it.

If Outer Wilds counts as AA, then I’ll nominate that next (even if I still need to finish it)

Unfortunately, I’ve heard of people getting rejected from places for being unvaccinated because their particular condition, often in the case of rare ones, is one that doesn’t qualify for “vaccine exemption” despite there being legitimate reasons for it.

Everyone who’s able to should definitely get vaxxed, but the way the system currently works can be a problem for certain people who have actual reasons for medical exemption.

I think it’s just everywhere now. I see it on Tumblr too.

I think I’d be fine with it if they buffed it with everything and had a system that told you how much durability is left that isnt just the weapons’ last few hits. It feels way too low for me and is somewhat unpredictable imo.

Unfortunately, even our most advanced ones are more limited than a lot of people think and have a high rejection rate of around 44% that’s never talked about. Some do genuinely like them, but many say they still prefer the relatively simple body powered prosthetics, or none at all.

This could change as advancements are made, but as of now they’re a bit of a scam.

People say they want memes like we used to have back, only to flip out when a late 2000s/early 2010s style gmod thing blows up.

Granted the author was quite young when he started the series (15) to when the first book got published (18, first self published then republished by an established publisher a couple years later). He’s came out with a new series recently, but I don’t know how much better it is.

And while I’m not saying the books are anything great, they’re still a far cry from the movie imo.

Howl’s Moving Castle. Not that I didn’t enjoy the book, I just preferred the movie more.

How Texas teens lost the one program that allowed birth control without parental consent (www.texastribune.org)

Texas is in the minority of states that requires parental consent before a teenager can get birth control, in virtually all circumstances. But there’s long been one exception to that rule: the federal Title X program, which provides confidential contraception regardless of age, income or immigration status....

What if they need it for medical reasons? But I guess I shouldnt expect these people to know the other ways they’re used since I doubt they paid attention in sex ed (assuming they even properly got it).

I’ve heard it actually doesnt taste bad. I’d be unsettled by where it came from though.

I would never play it myself so I’m not sure how much this counts, but there’s something about Garten of Banban that keeps drawing me back to it whenever a new episode drops. I’m well aware it’s just some shitty bottom of the barrel reaction streamer/theory crafting bait and it’s mostly me wanting to see where the train wreck goes, but I think I’m enjoying it on an ironic level too.

Rinna ,
@Rinna@lemm.ee avatar

I mean, it wasn’t like I was expecting the guy who refused to take down a popular softcore CP sub until it got mainstream media attention to be morally upstanding.

Ironically I wouldn’t have heard of it if it werent for this, so Streisand effect in action.

What do you mean? It’s a restaurant, they serve pizza and have a salad bar. I’ve been there a bunch of times as a kid. It’s a restaurant man, what are you talking about?

There is actually a promising cancer treatment that uses a genetically modified poliovirus strain, but it’s still in its trial phase.

Granted a lot of the failures with Anthem was thanks to corporate meddling, like EA forcing them to switch to an engine mid development that wasn’t equipped for the game they wanted to make as they insisted on using something in-house, and then forcing them to release it in an unfinished and buggy state. Iirc the devs even cared about the project too, but once again EA ruins something.

I remember thinking it had some neat gameplay concepts from the footage I saw, it just needed more polishing.

Wonder what will happen if we put Yandere Simulator’s code in there.

Male abuse/SA victims. It’s already not taken seriously enough when it happens to women, but when it happens to a guy they get put down even more and told to “man up”, sometimes even by people who’d support them if the sexes were swapped.

I’m a female queer SA survivor if they ever try that bullshit on me lmao.

So instead of making their games more easily accessible and re-releasing old games, which has been proven to reduce piracy and may even be profitable, they just throw money at a lawsuit attacking an emulator?

Rinna , (edited )
@Rinna@lemm.ee avatar

Having a good service that’s easily accessible and re-releasing games from older consoles (many of which people have been rallying for) = less of an incentive to pirate them. Obv it will still exist, but it’d be in less of a demand. I almost never pirate PC games since the vast majority of the ones I’m interested in are readily accessible, unless it’s from a shitty AAA company like EA.

The problem is that the widely available tea brands (at least in America) are usually shit, and people not knowing how to make it right and end up using scalding hot water when making green tea or microwaving the water with the bag in. I get my tea from tea shops and use an electric kettle to get the brewing temps right, and now a lot of grocery store teas are disgusting to me.

I like good coffee too, but when I have it I often feel sick later and the caffeine content sometimes sets off my anxiety.

You can only pick 2 games from steam to play for the rest of your life, what games are they? (sh.itjust.works)

I have a large library of steam games, but yet always come back to Garry mod and ravensfield. I keep coming back for the modded content and every other game is excellent, don’t get me wrong. But a lot of big games like RD2 and watchdogs 2 just seem like such a long time investment. What 2 games do you infinitely come back to?

Rinna , (edited )

Stellaris and Rimworld. Replace Rimworld with Minecraft if including non-Steam games.

Grains loaded with added sugars for your largest meal. Surely that won’t contribute further to this country’s health crisis, like it didn’t already do that by marketing itself as healthy for growing children.

Dang maybe we should take a fraction of the trillions we spend on the military to fund scientific research, and also health and education while we’re at it so we’d get even more potential scientists.

Hemp is very versatile and can be used to make similar paper products while growing at a much faster rate, which potentially makes it a good replacement. The association with marijuana is part of what prevented it from catching on though.

As someone who is unironically into a lot of VR stuff and even owns a pricey headset myself, I did not understand the appeal from the features I’ve seen past looking “”“cool”“”. Even the stuff that looks at least somewhat fun or useful doesnt seem worth it considering the price, especially now that reviews are reporting there are basic features that cheaper headsets perform much better at and are way more comfortable.

I’d rather a hundred of those than some kid with mommy’s iPhone watching brainrotting Youtube Kids videos all day with the sound on. At least then I won’t feel bad for the kid.

Rinna OP , (edited )
@Rinna@lemm.ee avatar

I think it’s fine in moderation and when it’s some manually curated service like the children’s section of streaming platforms (but even then it’s not perfect considering Cocomelon exists), or in the case of YouTube you’re watching it WITH your kid to avoid running into anything weird (though I think any platform meant for content aimed towards children should be 100% manually curated). The problem is when it’s excessive or it winds up sending your five year old down a bizarre rabbithole of pregnant Spiderman twerking videos because you didn’t bother to moderate what they were watching.

As an artist I think it’s a more complicated issue than a lot of people are making it out to be, and all the fearmongering some popular artists are promoting really doesn’t help.

Was still thinking of giving it a shot, especially now that I got it for free through PS Plus.
