Name a country where it is not the case that your first paragraph is true.

"Must Try" distros and DEs?

Hey folks! I’m getting a fresh laptop for the first time in about a decade (Framework 16) in a couple of months and am looking forward to doing some low-level tinkering both on the OS and hardware. I’m planning to convert into a “cyberdeck” with quick-release hinges for the screen since I usually use an HMD, built-in...

LeftWM. I’ve been using it for about a year now and I have no complaints vIt doesn’t hold your hand as much as other WMs, but it is extremely powerful if you’re willing to do some manual setup.

QaspR ,

You should probably get some perspective before you post bullshit like this.

QaspR ,

You shouldn’t be. As a resident of the country you are proud of, I can assure you, whatever their motivations are, they are not good. SA supports Russia but calls what the IDF is doing genocide. The South African government mainly consists of two-faced thieves.

Lemmy.world Should Defederate with Threads

I think it’s pretty safe to say that the majority of us are here to avoid another corporate takeover of our preferred platforms. It would seem to me to be a tad irresponsible to allow Facebook into our space with open arms, allowing them to hoover up our data. I would love to keep using Lemmy.world, but will happily change...

QaspR OP ,

Agreed

QaspR OP ,

Holy crap this got more attention than I was bargaining for…

QaspR OP ,

Oh, c’mon. I’m not misanthropic 😂

It kinda is, but only if intelligence is perfectly normally distributed. (Spoilers, it kinda is)

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/IQ_classification

By the current “deviation IQ” definition of IQ test standard scores, about two-thirds of all test-takers obtain scores from 85 to 115, and about 5 percent of the population scores above 125 (i.e. normal distribution).

Just moved to Linux: a follow up

I recently made a post discussing my move to Linux on Fedora, and it’s been going great. But today I think I have now become truly part of this community. I ran a command that borked my bootloader and had to do a fresh install. Learned my lesson with modifying the bootloader without first doing thorough investigation lol....

QaspR ,

Congratulations soldier! You’re one of us now.

QaspR ,

We all better pray you’re right. If he does end up trying to invade Finland, it’ll be a global f*ckup

QaspR ,

Yeah, for sure. I use my GTX 1070 for CUDA stuff all the time.

Apparently the worst that can happen is (provided you are swimming vigorously) that the extreme exercise may inhibit digestion slightly.

Recommend a game for me to play with my partner

My partner and I occasionally play games together, but they pretty much only play word puzzle games on their own. I’m not very good at word games though, and they don’t have very good spatial skills, so we frequently find ourselves mismatched. We have a switch and a single decent gaming pc, and a pretty old laptop....

QaspR ,

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a must have imo. Me and my girl play it almost on the daily. Great competitive experience.

QaspR ,

I suppose the “proper” way of saying this is “Five past six,” but I don’t see any real problem with “six o-five”

The dominance of cat content VS dog content on Lemmy reflects its current techie userbase

I originally joined Reddit in 2011, and in the beginning it was dominated by cat content. It was rare to see a post about dogs. Sometime in the mid 20-teens this phenomenon reversed. It’s always been a “pet theory” of mine that this reversal was due to Reddit becoming mainstream, and that it’s initial nerdy/techie user...

QaspR ,

As a certified™ nerd, I can assure you that I much prefer doggos to cats.

Exhibit A, my favourite doggo and personal companion.
