Haha you wish! We’re best friends and have lots of sex and go on lots of dates and we have lots of fun so it’s a very healthy relationship. She tells me everything and I tell her everything.

I just want to add some nuance here as I have family and friends living in Israel - it’s not that the Israeli population is ignoring the situation (see the massive protests against Netanyahu and his goal to override the Supreme Court), it’s just that there is a significant portion of the population that are religious extremists. Many of them do not work and just procreate. They vote diligently and have friends in high places. Most Israelis want to coexist with their Palestinian neighbours but it’s the religious extremists that are ensuring this does not happen.

My mom was diagnosed with stage 1 cancer this year at her bi-annual check by her doctor. Within 1 month she had a biopsy and surgery to remove the cancerous tumour. She was also put on an experimental treatment to boost her immune system for the couple of weeks she had to wait to get surgery.

She’s now cancer free. Total cost? $0.

I will be very less than nice to anyone who advocates to get rid of our system.

Complain about Klaus Schwab and the WEF and talk about eating bugs and not owning anything.

Say the donation is for gods army to take on Bill Gates and his Clinton’s.

I ate at a 9 course meal at a Michelin star restaurant a few days ago in Nice, France.

This was the menu: https://i.imgur.com/R4eaHix.jpg

It cost us 658€. It was good.

The first dessert course left me in stitches because I thought it was so over the top: https://i.imgur.com/ddAJiTg.jpg

Overall it was worth it for the experience and each course was very flavourful.

I remember a couple days ago scrolling on the ufos and conspiracy places on some old site and seeing them all accuse anyone who thought this was sketchy as “disinfo agents” trying to distract them and discredit the obviously huge discovery for mankind this was.

It was amusing and sad.

Conspiracists cling to complicated conspiracies because it provides them a clear story about how the world runs.

These people are intellectually incapable of understanding that the world is mostly random.

PerogiBoi ,
@PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca avatar

Agree with you. Finding actual extraterrestrial life would be a sure fire way to get a big budget increase. The issue here is that people who are intellectually inclined like this don’t think like this. It’s a couple steps too far ahead.

Do you pirate? And do you justify pirating? i.e., what is your piracy philosophy?

Well, my friend, he’s kinda poor he can’t afford some books and some streaming services, so he pirates. He pirate books, audiobook and videos and other stuff. Sometimes he buys books he likes a lot out of loyalty to the author (yeah, I don’t understand it either), he likes to read physical books, but yeah, if he hates the...

PerogiBoi ,
@PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca avatar

I had to write a research report in university about whether or not piracy hurt or helped the recording industry.

From the research, I found multiple studies that compared brain activity of shoplifters compared to those of pirates. The area of the brain that lit up when stealing physical objects did NOT light up for those who pirated.

Digital piracy is not theft. No one is hurt except for unrealized revenue. But if someone pirates, was that even potential revenue to begin with?

It was also found that piracy allowed for greater reach of content which statistically resulted in more people attending live concerts (think of piracy as free advertisement). Concert attendance led to increase in ticket and merchandise sales.

So overall? Piracy is good. It is only bad if you ignore multiple factors and only focus on short term bottom lines. A net positive.

For books, if I torrent something and find I really like the author, I’m more inclined to pay for another book in the series of another book by the same author. Same concept as music. Physically having a book in your library is worth a cost.

For games, one may buy a sequel or another in the series or recommend the game to a friend who would then go and buy it. Steam and other game services make it much less attractive to torrent than to buy it at a discount. Achievements, social network aspect, and such make buying a game come with other intangible benefits.

For movies, same concept applies. If the movie is in a series and the new one comes out, one may be more inclined to pay for it or see it in theatres or recommend it to someone else who will pay for it.

Of course in these scenarios, it’s totally possible that none of this happens and the content is acquired for free and that’s it. But when you scale these possibilities up by larger numbers of people, the chances are much higher that additional revenue will be made in the long term as a result.

We also need to keep in mind that piracy has its own high barrier for entry. The majority of the population do not have the technical skills to be able to successfully pirate content so we need to remember that when we think about all of this, we’re looking at a relatively small subset of the population.

Physical violence and taking out the trash are the only proven methods of extinguishing the intolerant.

Under absolutely no circumstances will nazis and bigots be tolerated or allowed to feel safe. Live and let live or find yourself in an untenable position.

PerogiBoi ,
@PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca avatar

Nobody is saying that they justify violence for people who don’t know pronouns and as a result don’t use them at first. This is you changing the goalposts and the content of what was discussed to make your position sound more reasonable. Miss me with that bullshit, it’s transparent as fuck.

Nazism, bigotry, and intolerance towards other humans based on immutable characteristics violates the social contract and will not be tolerated, even if you really want it to be.

Your intolerance will get you fucked up and I am here for it.

PerogiBoi ,

Again these averages are skewed by the few exclusive jobs with high salaries (like the CRA and being an RBC IT exec for example from your link).

Is it possible to make $60k+ in Canada in IT? Sure. Is it likely? No.

For those that aren’t in the top 10% of the batch, there’s 100 $35k-45kish jobs for every 1 high level $60k+ job. If you aren’t a wizard or considered an SME then it’s the choice between having enough for rent to waiting for luck to be in your favour. The majority of those I graduated with are in similar positions.

The overachieving burnout-types are either starting business with limited success or have decent paying jobs. The rest I know (me included) are stuck looking for greener pastures.

PerogiBoi ,
@PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca avatar

From the academic studies I had to research to inform my workplace on pros/cons of remote work, that wasn’t the conclusion. I’m paraphrasing but the majority of those that self reported their own productivity highlighted an overwhelming increase in productivity.

When it came down to aggregate productivity (in jobs with quantifiable KPIs), they found moderate to significant increases in productivity as long as management adjusted their managing style to accommodate remote. This opinion differed the higher up in management that studies polled.

For my workplace specifically, they had invested multiple billions throughout the entire portfolio into longterm building leases (10+ years) and could not leave these agreements so it was easier for upper management to justify the sunken cost of leases than employee opinion or perceived/measured increases in productivity.

PerogiBoi ,
@PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca avatar

Without doxxing myself or giving away too much info, I am in UX and business analysis. I’m not coding (sometimes but sparingly). Maybe that’s where I’m going wrong.

My field is basically the bridge between devs and the client. Need enough technical knowledge to come up with software features to implement and enough people/business/process knowledge to make it work and temper expectations with all parties.

Feels like I should have just specialized in one thing instead of combining as that’s where all the money is.

PerogiBoi ,
@PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca avatar

I’m sorry but your conclusions you drew aren’t in line with reality, specifically at my organization.

Ego and sunken cost were the main reasons at least at my workplace to reimplement back to work orders.

The majority of higher level management were not able to pivot to a remote scenario and were not willing to invest in the training and additional tech infrastructure necessary to convert to remote by design. It would have required deep restructuring and loss of middle management positions.

Our organization had multiple decades long leases that were signed in 2018. The employer also received heavy lobbying from municipal businesses and government to return to office. A big reason for that was the calculation that a lack of in office presence would cause financial damage to the downtown sector of my city.

There are many facets to this issue and none of them have to do with actual employee productivity.

PerogiBoi ,
@PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca avatar

Nah UX and business analyst. One needs to be very technical while also very aware of business process and human factors.

PerogiBoi ,
@PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca avatar

I’d argue I work in tech as my role is very technical and deals with agile software development. I run scrums with developers and meet with non-tech savvy clients to translate their demands into actual workable software features (along with the overall experience and UI elements+testing).

Not really a PM role as my strengths are more technical than people/project managing. Thanks for the kind words!

Spider-Man Remastered runs great!
